Crossplay should be OFF by default

  • Opt in to Xbox/PC crossplay instead of opt out.

The game is popular enough that it doesn't need crossplay to guarantee active servers.. and if it is quiet THEN engage crossplay

Xbox players are so disadvantaged against PC, and in my experience Xbox servers are way more chill and passive then PC servers. But that could be because you have to opt in leading to a different type of player base...

    Then opt out. Problem solved.

  • It's fine as is.

  • The only group you’re changing anything for is the people who don’t appreciate the differences and probably don’t even know. By the time you realize what the difference is, I think you can find the button to change it.

  • I play on Xbox and it’s fine as is also Iv sunk and been sunk by as many PC players as Xbox players....if you can’t put fight a crew out smart the crew

  • @galactic-geek

Yeah except no. Having to wait 5+ mins while it is "searching the seas" for a server is not a good system and is not fine (and then loading screens).

Rocket League has the same problem, you HAVE to play crossplay because the amount of players that have opted out is so little, leaving you stuck searching for a game for 5-10 minutes.

Having crossplay OFF by default would eliminate this problem

  • @d3adst1ck no the problem isn't solved. It is actually creating an additional problem that the amount of players (in Aus/NZ region anyways) that have opted out of crossplay is too little, meaning 75% of the time you end up playing in PC servers anyway (after being stuck in the "searching the seas" screen sometimes up to 10 minutes).

Having crossplay off by default would mean Xbox servers would be active, instead of non existent.

Not sure why there is such dislike for having crossplay off by default... obviously crossplay should be a thing that people can do, but it should be opt in, not default.

  • @otherfanboy I have over 500 hours in this game, probably 95% of that on crossplay servers.

This post isn't me complaining about PC players sinking me, it's the fact that Xbox only servers are almost non-existent because you have to manually opt in to Xbox only. Meaning I'm forced into crossplay regardless of if I opt in or opt out.

Having crossplay OFF by default would fix that

  • @paparug420 I actually was against seperate xbox servers...this game started as a crossplay only title, and as long as you don't let them on your ship, pc players have no advantage at all...

If making opt out the default suddenly filled the XBox only servers with players, then surely even if you get placed into a crossplay server you'd end up playing with those XBox players anyways.

If you aren't running into console players in crossplay servers, that means PC players are dominating your region so making Opt Out the default won't solve anything; there is a lack of XBox players to begin with and you'll still end up being put into crossplay.

The reason it is off by default is because one side of the equation (PC players) have no option to switch at all, so even if they are a minority in a given region they are still able to play with a decent player pool.

you don't think people will opt out if they want to?

you don't think people will figure out how to opt out if they wanted to?

you know what will change with opt out default?

people will just opt right back in

    how do i know this?

ask the endless pve thread makers if people are passionate about something you bet it'll be looked for and asked for

i don't think forcing people to go through the process of opting back in will change anything to solve your problem

i simply think people don't mind if they are opting in and i also think people like being opted in to crossplay

this wont solve your problem if people wanted to opt out they would and if your having problems that just means people do not want to opt out

  • @paparug420 And something else...if default would be crossplay off, then I probably would have never meet my crew, who are also good friends now...so leave it as it is...

  • @paparug420 and...you see it before you start, if you have crossplay on or off

Lol you guys begged to be able to play in your inflated swimming pool and now you're mad because the vast majority dont want to?

Enjoy the long loading screen to find enough players 🤣

Honestly I cant believe anyone is bringing it up, you reap what you sow and the vast majority has no interest in that inflated swimming pool, they enjoy crossplay and dont see a reason to opt out.

  • @paparug420

Xbox players have the exact same options as PC players:

    • Mouse and Keyboard or Controller are supported on both platforms.
    • With the new generation console on the market even the hardware differences are minimal or even in the advantage of the console based on the PC they are facing. Those have the same advantages compared to xbox one players as any PC, so there is no need to act like it is some exclusive aspect of the platform you face.

You get the performance of the hardware you paid for, the difference between a Xbox and a PC is the operating system... that is it. Low end, high end, old gen vs new gen it is all the same.

Crossplay should by default be enabled, as that gives people the largest playerbase to play with. The larger the playerbase the better the experience that the game can provide. If you don't want to, you got your Xbox opt out option no need to drag others down with it. If you don't think enough players use it, maybe it is a simple indication that most people don't think it is such a big deal.

I play with crossplay turned off most of the time, and I get into sessions very quickly. It doesn't take 5+ minutes. Of course, I have an Xbox Series X, and that makes such a huge difference! When I do opt-in, I see very little difference between most pirates and their crews.

... in my experience Xbox servers are way more chill and passive then PC servers.

I've played on PC w/ controller for a little over a year now. But even when I did play on Xbox, I always preferred crossplay servers for both Adventure and Arena.

In my experience, crossplay servers provided more variety. Sure, there's a chance you'd run into PC sweats. But you'd also run into PC noobs, Xbox noobs; all sorts of players ranging from casual to sweaty skill levels. I've had many "passive and chill" sessions in crossplay.

I found that in contrast, Xbox servers were just made up of tryhards who were tired of getting rolled in crossplay. They seemed way less chill, and they ran their loot into the red sea a lot more commonly lol.

Of course this is all just anecdotal, but since we're sharing experiences, I thought I'd offer mine.

Crossplay should be left on by default.

  • Crossplay matchmaking preference is an opt-out, not opt-in. The big message saying "sailing with all player" is clear enough for people to know that they have alternatives if needed.

Last we've heard, less than 7% of xbox players actually opted-out, so it seems that it's just people's preference to play in the main pool. You have the same option as everyone else, you can't ask for a separate space segregated away from the main crowd and then complain that there isn't enough people in there.

  • @galactic-geek yea even with cross play on the load times on an Xbox one-one s suck the series x load stupid fast my buddy always gets in to a game before us

Maybe think about getting an external SSD, a 128GB would survice...I had one with my OneS before and the loading times are a tiny little bit slower than on the SeriesX (!)
Such a small SSD is not really expensive and believe me, it's worthit, especially for SoT!
