Rare developers: Create comraderie idea

  • It would be great to have emissaries from the same guild be more supportive. What about creating a disincentive for sinking same emissaries by losing money if you sink a fellow guild emissary. That would be cool because you would have to double check any attacks on other ships. Therefore you might as well create an alliance with them and then maybe be more inclined to help a fellow guild emissary in trouble.

  • penalties for sinking anyone doesn't make sense in piracy

that's serious interference leaning towards the failures of the environment (alliances) and away from the successes (piracy without interference and penalties)

just because we are selling our stolen goods to the same pawn shop doesn't mean we have any sort of allegiance to each other

We just have the same buyer but we are all self serving in the end

  • We should be free to choose whether we want to support or sink other Emmisaries regardless of who they represent.

  • @captainluke56 the gold hoarder likes that I bring them chests. They like me more if I advertise while I collect them. You have chests, why wouldn't I take them?

  • The gold hoarders/merchants/order of souls don't care how I get the treasure. They only care that I bring it to them and not the Reapers.

  • I don't think this mechanic would be easy to work functionally, regardless of all the great points others have made about it not even fitting the theme of a pirate game, etc.

So do I get penalized for sinking the ship that attacked me? Is the one who shoots first get the penalty? Well that would need to be who LANDS the first shot. What if their first shot misses and I land the defense shot?

I just see this as being too difficult to create a system that works and doesn't just annoy people more often than not.

What makes this game fun is how open it is for the players to decide their terms of interaction. This leads to crazy variance in gameplay experiences. Everyone wants to put more controls in place, and all that would do is limit the unique experiences and make people feel they were being told they had to play in a specific way.

IF that's the type of gameplay you want, go play a theme park mmo.
