We need Markers / Pings

  • Markers
Something we could all use when trying to show our buds where the last bit of treasure is or to mark something important and you don't have the time to stand around and wait.
    Concept

    • Little marker made out of wood that you can stick in the ground as well as marking issues on the ship (showing a hole that needs to be patched) as well as attaching to items (handy in water)

    • Maximum view range is Half a Nautical Mile

    • A little bubble that floats with a little icon of what it's marking if its treasure or land kind of like the icons next to the Gamertag showing what the players doing on the screen which you can see if you are looking at it It also shows your distance from it

    • They should work like Gamertags except being more visible

    • The could possibly have skins E.g pegleg, Skelton's bones, rusty swords but I'm not too sure about this

    • When your friend arrives at the marker he can pull it out, fix the hole, interact with the item and it will remove the marker and make a little tune to let the player know his teammate arrived at the marker and did whatever task (you can also remove it by looking at the marker and cancelling it from whatever distance)

    • Ideally it would only be one marker per person other wise it would get hectic
Please consider this it would be a good addition to the game and would be extremely helpful as well a being a cool piratey thing I really hope this happens in future Happy Sailing - Dan

  • Or you can use your pistol and shoot at it?
    Use Spyglass and text/Mic

  • @burnbacon using the spyglass is a good idea

  • I mean I wouldn't complain if they added them, but I'm not specifically going to start a riot to get them added. I think it's a fine idea for quality of life (especially for open crews. Yeesh, trying to get a player to look at something is a pain in the)

  • Meh you can circle a map

  • Leave a mark on the map table.

    Shoot at it.

    Point at it.

    "Follow me!"

    "Over here!"

    Use your voice.

    Shine your lamp on it.

    Hit it with your shovel.

    Stand on it/over it.

    Voice chat.

    Text chat.

    Party chat.

    Xbox Live message.

    Discord message.

    Steam message.

Use yourself as a marker (works great with the nametags).

To answer your title - no we don't. If added, it will break down immersion and actual communication, which I'd the opposite of what the game is trying to do. Some things are made intentionally more difficult in order to help make the world feel more lively and well, lived in. If we were going to add something like this, then you should probably ask yourself - why not have a minimap always hovering on your screen? I think you'll find that the answer remains the same.

I would personally like this idea, as some islands can be huge.
It would be very helpful on thieves haven runs as you dig up lots of gems, and their scattered around the island on the top, and their bushes everywhere making it hard to see treasure.
The idea is from many other games such as League of legends where you ping a area with a warning ''enemy here'' ''ambush here'' etc.

its not up to me if its been added fortunately in not in charge of that. nor are you. lol

  • I would hate this idea.

No HUD with twenty first century data points are needed in this game about wooden vessels in the age of sail.

Communication skills matter in this game.

yes this is why this game can and is fun

  • @joe-krakatoa They matter but no one's communication skills can describe a location on a dense island when you're trying to be efficient and multi-task in the game it would be great IDK why you people are so aggressive about this stuff "I would hate this idea" 1 your severely overacting this must be your only outlook to anger 2 you can click into the controller stick or use the middle mouse button calm down this is a place for people to share ideas and your making this almost political. Have a good day and try not to bring people down it's sickening.

  • @closinghare208 that's doesn't make sense I'm sorry and no I don't ruin the game and is handy just thinks bout it have a good day

  • @galactic-geek I think you entirely looked over the point and completely misread it but to answer you. Sailors would mark landmarks to work on with tall ticks and rocks and because the sea of thieves has a lot of realism when it comes to location and concepts it works out.

  • @captain-fob4141 you completely went over the point of this and misread it

  • @gallerine5582 yeah it is a pain in the buttocks btw epic cat

  • @xassflamex where no tin charge that's why we're here to come up with ideas 😉

If it was just a stick or a rock, it wouldn't help your crewmates find anything unless they were already close to it, effectively changing nothing.

But you also mentioned floating icons that could be seen from half a nautical mile away. This means that it will be obstructively annoying (especially if a trolling crewmate can put down a lot of them) and take away any means of actually communicating with your crew because they can just make a beeline for it. This will make things easier and therefore far less fun and interesting.

So, no - I don't think I missed the point at all; I think you did.

Rare even officially stated years ago that they wanted to keep UI elements very minimal (for things such as health, ammo, etc.) for exactly these reasons.
