A "respawn" button

  • Hello! I was playing Sea of Thieves and near the end of my Ashen Athena voyage, I got stuck between 2 rocks. Normally when something like this happens there would be a black screen, but this time there was not. I tried to respawn back using firebombs but they were not enough. I eventually had to leave the game and try to relog back in. However, my progress did not save, and I lost an hour and 44 minutes worth of progress. I do understand that I should've done alt+f4, but I shouldn't have to make the game crash. Also, players on Xbox can't make the game crash. So I think it would be a terrific idea for a "respawn' button in the menus, or something similar. I love this game and play solo a ton, but this should be resolved soon.

  • @jirons247 if you had crash the game you should be offered to rejoin. if you select the leave game from the menu up will not be able to rejoin.

But I also argree a menu setting like the scuttle for our boats would be nice for our pirates. even if it involved a full trip to the ferry and back.

  • An instant escape button? This could be abused. So, no.

    You still have options:

    1. Sail with crewmates
    2. Blunder and firebombs
    3. Get drunk
    4. Reset the game
    5. Gunpowder barrels
    6. Skeletons with guns
    7. Opposing pirates
  • Did you try s scuttling? If you scuttle your boat, even if it is high and dry on land, it will despawn, in my experience. Also turning your wheel one way or the other with you sails furled usually works, if not you can usually use your harpoons to help turn you and pull you out.

It's clear that you didn't read the post - this is about pirates getting stuck, not the ships...

  • @jirons247 Agreed. I don't get stuck often, but when I do and if im solo it sucks. I can remember getting stuck between a tree and a rock at an outpost and being sol. Had to close the game as I'm on xbix and lost all my loot as a result. I support a "kill yourself" button. Maybe make it a 3min countdown if instant escape or return to ship is an issue with that.

  • @galactic-geek How would it be abused? I don't see it any different than scuttling your ship.

  • This has been needed for a long time now. Sometimes we get stuck in the geometry and getting drunk doesn’t always solve it. If I am solo I just have to wait until a skeleton spawns to shoot me. I am trying to see how this could be abused. I am not saying it can’t be abused, but I am not seeing it.

  • I already explained how it could be abused - as an instant escape!

Picture this: I'm running from an opponent who is far more skilled than I. At the press of a button, I instantly teleport back to my ship, far from danger, safe, and ready to slam my opponent's own ship. Seeing that I vanish, my opponent does the same. It creates a dynamic of cat and mouse where nobody ever truly fights unless you get boarded.

Couldn’t I just let them kill me, jump off a cliff, etc. and achieve the same thing? If they are more skilled than me, who cares how I die? The result is the same. I just assumed if you use a “stuck” option you should go to the Ferry of the Damned and then to your boat. Same as if they killed you. It solves the problem if I am stuck in the geometry, but it does not give me any kind of advantage in combat.

  • This would replace mermaids, but given how buggy those are? Do it. Black screens defining ship battles more often than not is cancer. Make it a tool, give it a cast time. Problem solved for mid fight use. Next up is making the black screens themselves go away.

Well, if you're going to the Ferry, I suppose it makes sense - but do you really think Rare is going to let you commit suicide at the push of a button in a Teen-rated game? I think not.

That’s why I called it a “stuck” button. The button could just be titled, “I’m stuck” or something less loaded

I'd still hate to dedicate an entire input towards something that practically never happens. I myself have had this very scenario happen to me precisely 2x since I started sailing since the Alpha.

I wish I could say the same. It has happened to me a lot. Less often lately, but maybe I am unlucky or something.

Couldn’t it just be something under the crew menu? Like dismissing your pet or scuttling the ship? Probably don’t need to dedicate a control for it in a keyboard or gamepad.

  • @ghostpaw said:

No, it's because pirates are properly reporting areas where this instance can occur, and Rare has been slowly fixing them over time as a result. It's been mentioned in past patch notes quite a bit.

  • yeah, if you get stuck, make a screenshot of the scenario and forward it to Rare so they can fix it in the future.

Perhaps im mistaken but i interpreted the post as that hitting this respawn button would send the player to the ferry like they died.

Essentially its like making the pirate end their life.

I agree insta teleporting to the ship would be a massive change and is bad.

Would the ferry timer still allow somebody to abuse their teleportation skills more than a mermaid?

I just cant see myself subjecting myself to the ferry every time i fail to board a ship.

  • Great idea. You can put a respawn button on land, since in the water we use the mermaid to respawn.

I already addressed this in a previous reply (#12, I believe).

  • @galactic-geek If the decision comes to how often it would get used then why is there a brig on a sloop if you can't put anyone in it? Regardless of how often it happens, it still does happen. Rare is a very creative team, so the problem of creating a name for it would not be an issue. I can understand where you're coming from as far as an instant escape. So perhaps you have to hold the interact button for 5 seconds?

Plenty ways to die by your own hands already, this point is moot. Any way is it really suicide? With out an animation of you doing the deed who's to say it not a heart attack ❤️
