Ship Value

  • As I've seen pointed out in numerous posts attackers tend to have no loot on their ship and have nothing to lose while the defenders have everything to lose.
What if we made each ship have a value for being sunk.
Here's how I would do it.
Each ship has six cosmetics minus the flag.
Make each piece worth something based on what kind of cosmetic being used.
    Vanilla ship 100g per cosmetic.
    Low cost cosmetic 250 per
    High cost cosmetic 500 per
    Legendary and emporium 750 per.

This would at least give players something to point to when someone asks well why did they sink me I had nothing. Also it would add value to those who defend their ship multiple times from the same attackers. This might lead to players running the vanilla ship more but from what it sounds like they are already doing it anyway. It may also lead to more pvp than people want but from my experience it's going to happen anyway so why not get a little something for your trouble. I dunno just a thought.

  • Interesting concept. There is proof that they keep track of how many ships you sank (you can see it in your stats on this website, in fact). So, perhaps it's not beyond the realm of possibility to add commendations based on what kind of ships you encounter or sink.

Perhaps instead you could earn gold for the following:

    • 4,000 gold for sinking a sloop
    • 6,000 gold for sinking a brigantine
    • 10,000 gold for sinking a galleon

Doing this would (possibly) decrease the amount of toxic spawn killing (killing without intent to sink), it would make the victory feel more rewarding, and it could make interactions between players in the world more dynamic by encouraging alliances for the sole purpose attacking/ defending against each other. For example, two sloops teaming up to hunt for galleons.

  • @slickwillywonka As written I think this would simply motivate crews to keep sinking one another's ship as a quick way to farm gold.

  • @monomathijs79 Not only that, but it would motivate pirates to sink others rather than to ally or be friendly with them.

Furthermore, @SlickWillyWonka, having cosmetics that "rank" your ship's value would force pirates into using specific cosmetics rather than the ones they actually want.

    Overall, a terrible idea.

  • there is reason Emissaries exist, they are their to make your oot more valuble, but also its valuble for other crews to sell, thats what they are for. you are defeting the porpouse of an emissary.

  • Ok so let's say we set the value at
    1k for a sloop
    1.5k for a brig
    2k for a galleon

The value would be that of a mermaid gem. At this value farming would be a massive chore and a waste of time. There would be no reputation gain either.

From this it may increase overall pvp encounters but from what I've seen people are already mindlessly killing each other so they were probably going to attack anyway. It could reduce spawn camping a bit as the ship does have value and they may be more inclined to get the job done for the payout.

This could also reduce running to a small degree as those who would normally run because there's nothing in it for them may choose to turn and fight because now there is something even if it's just a small gold payment.

In the end tho it's more to give the players a sense of gain from their encounters. Yes I do see the bad sides some of you have pointed out but if balanced properly it could work.

  • @slickwillywonka youu could get the exact same with an emissary flag and even more than that. most people have emissaries and thats why the Reapers Bones exists. the value of emissaries would decline rapidly meaning that the Reapers Bones would lose popularity.

  • @birdbot500
Emissary flags would still have more value to reapers than the flat value of a single ship. The higher rank on your flag the more you get paid. This flat value of the ship wouldn't increase it's just a minimum wage if you will. And honestly as someone who flys reapers from time to time I don't see a lot of people flying the flags as it is.

  • @Birdbot500
also from my experience as a reaper I tend to get more action from empty ships this would at least give me a small payment for those trying to kamikaze sink me just because I am a reaper.

  • Would if not be better to radically increase the value of a captured emissary flag? Like double or triple its selling value... perhaps even more. We dont necessarily need to add to the bonus percentage for selling stuff with the flag active, just raise the value of a lowered flag massively, so that there will be no reason NOT to raise a emissary flag. Respectively the value of stolen flags would also increase. This way the ships themselves would not need a gold value, and would be easier to implement into the game by (simply) raising the emissary flag payouts.

Or all ships come with a basic flag (that can not be reattached if lost) with a gold value that can be captured. The flag would not have any value to the owners of the ship, but will give the attackers something to hunt for. That would also mean the attackers would have to sell the flag before they can get any gold, and the loosers will have a chance to reclaim it and sell it for lets say 1 gold . (Just one one gold, to stop crews from scuttling and farming their own flags for gold.) Why would they come back for their 1 gold flag... well to deny the others from gaining any profit.

Just something to add to the discussion,
    Ghostfire

  • Or just drop barrels of random loot.

  • From S0nicbob:

"...aggressive actions to other ships or players would no doubt introduce grinding loops such as needless spawn camping and ship damage/repair loops in order to farm ... while also creating an incredibly negative experience for those on the recieving end."

  • @MonoMathijs79 @galactic-geek said in Ship Value:

Shores of gold would really be the shores of gold. When me and another crew sink eachothers ships there and have our ships respawn on the beach there. Could be the games first trillionaire haha

  • @slickwillywonka they just need to re-work emissaries and it would help solve this issue.
