Confirm server merge even with other ships on the server!

    We searched for someone to do the event for the 10 reaper emissary flags to get the 2 emotes
    After a long search we finally found someone, I joined his crew, so another friend could join my "old" crew.
    We met at reapers hideout with both of our ships, sunk theyr ship, sold the flag...everything worked fine...they came back and sunk us, we took the mermaid and as soon as we came on our ship we got a server merge, my friends on the other ship didn't have a merge...

    So since when can this happen?

    It can always happen if there is no one close by you can merge, or when the server is end of life. Since your friend didn't merge server was end of life so there was probably nobody in your range and the game merged you.

    @mentimjojo ok...shouldn't it just merge when no other ship is on the server?

    Ah that makes more sense then, since servers are packed right now SoT might not be able to merge everyone at the same time, so they merge one at the time.

    Every server has a life span of 12 hours +- after that it shutdown and a new one is created. Everyone on the server before it shutdowns get merged.

    Well you can cheat it currently with your own flag :'). But you can search for reapers, more then enough on the seas right now with steam users

    Can't see any other reaper emissary right now...we serverd hopped a bit now
    It works with our own flag?

    Happened to me twice or so.

    We got sunk, and all my crew left. By the time I was alone I got merged, when clearly the crew that sank us was still in the server collecting our loot.

    Maybe this just happens when you end up solo, but it's kinda strange.

    I was merged once on a sloop with my friend while we had a third buddy on a second sloop. For the fun of it, he had dropped the alliance but we forgot to reform it so we were merged and he remained. I was also merged twice in one night while we could see an active reaper's mark ship on the map.

    And yes, you can use your own flag.

    @schwammlgott you can avoid the merge by being in an alliance.

    I think alliance flags do stop server merges if there are enough people in alliance!

    Otherwise the alliance only servers would not exist.

    Now one tip for you all, reapers flag to see if your friend is in same server while being a great idea, is not perfect.

    cause of the chance of having somebody with a reapers flag lying in same spot at outpost(people who try same thing)

    the actual best way to find out is to blunderbomb yourself to death and your friend doing the same, if you are in same server you will see each other on the ferry of the damned
