Pvp vs pve (private servers)

  • @troubled-cells

Yes pve on it is own would be virtually impossible to remove pvp entirely. Cannons could still make holes, kegs can still blow up, blunderbombs hit everyone etc lol and as you suggested loot is still stealable.

I wasnt pushing for a pve server as everyone makes it sound. I was suggesting the idea of a paid for private one isnt bad. Paying to play on the same server with your friends and make your own adventures. I tried to show its benefits to every type of player and how I thought the change in player base would be minimal or better overall.

But yes I agree with you, pve servers on their own wouldnt work as a method to avoid pvp if it was still an open server that anyone could join into.

  • @tubiansayne

And yes in essence a private server comes off as a pve server because you cant really be hunted anymore...but there is no need to change mechanics to avoid fighting since your playing with friends

  • @tubiansayne nah paid for private servers fall under pay to win / progress in my opinion.

People already dislike alliance servers, cant really see the differences apart from the paid and private part.

  • @troubled-cells

That's fine! I made the suggestion..rare can do what they want :) I'm not demanding or expecting anything just having fun tossing out ideas! If I'm wrong I'm wrong!

  • Also in regards to the pvp guys telling me "I dont know pvp". I'm not saying the entire pvp mechanic should change I'm merely stating that as of right now the preferred method of thievery is tucking, sneaking, row boating and bombing. I do this myself. But it's to the point where there are little to no battles at all. If a battle does ensue it tends to turn into cat and mouse and the running ship will bee line it to the red sea.

Adding a killing, shooting and sinking bonus wont stop anyone from tucking, sneaking, bombing etc it just benefits those who engaged in battle and lost the boat they were fighting to the shroud...it will give the pvpers that want to fight a reason to do so. And changing the flag drop into an immediate bonus if a ship goes down means even if they red sea your not out 100%

Right now ship battles is in the background of this game..as you said most people sneak, row, ninja steal etc I'm not suggesting ship battles be the only way. I'm suggesting it be evened out with everything else so in the event you do get into a cat and mouse chase it's not a waste of 2 hours :)

  • @combatxkitty

Lol although I am the poster I dont really care either way. I made this as an attempt to curb some of the arguing in the forums and was attempting to try and find a middle ground. I knew going in that there was a high risk of my post turning into a debate between the two and that's fine but at this point I'm over it lol I can see both the ups and downs of my suggestion and can see why people would be for and against the idea. But somehow my attempt turned from "I'm trying to benefit both sides" to people insulting each other, complaining without even reading the post and assuming I'm crying cuz I want to hide in a private game, bickering and insulting each other etc so I'm done lol I dont have an understanding on how forums work, I see a post..if I disagree I make a suggestion to help improve the idea or I ignore the post entirely and move on. I cant wrap my head around how people can see a post they disagree with and think it's a good idea to go insult to poster like they have been personally attacked or something lol in any case I'm not supporting pay to win nor am I trying to hide, my only personal goal was to play with my friends and not have to drop servers to load in a new one every time someone joins or leaves. But I was also trying to protect my friends from being punished for wanting to play together. But it is what it is :) I've had enough insults and middle fingers to know I'm not making progress. I admit defeat

  • @tubiansayne Hey my post wasnt directed just at you. My post is directed at any gamer who supports pay to win. I am allowed to have my opinions as well. You are not the only one who gets to post your opinion.

Pay to win should never be the answer. I would not mind paying for a server at all but it would be one where I could not progress on or nope would not support it.

  • @combatxkitty

Although tagging you I'm not blaming you :) mostly venting about the post overall lol the amount of messages and arguing was much higher then I expected. You are also not the one blindly coming in here and complaining without reading the post or the one coming in here trying to fight just because you can. I was venting to you not at you :P sorry for the confusion lol

  • @tubiansayne Well I have always been more of a lover than a fighter. Anyways so is the wonderful world of online forums, be prepared to rumble!

  • @tubiansayne said in Pvp vs pve (private servers):

    @mr-tickle5

Wait WHAT LOL that's not how pay to win works. Pay to win means that a game was released that you literally cant finish or succeed at without dropping real money into it....unless of course your suggesting SOT is unbeatable as it is currently? I mean technically there is no end and you cant hunt treasure forever lol but in no way is anything anyone has said referring to a pay to win mechanic

No, Pay to Win is literally anything that can be purchased that gives an advantage in the game or uses money to bypass parts of the game. If paid servers became a thing AND allowed progress within them that could transfer over to the public servers, then it is in fact Pay to Win as you are paying to make the game easier - with by removing player threats as well as easily teaming (alliance) with your own friends on the same server to further increase the rewards.

What you are referring to are the most predatory forms of this model. Not everything needs to go to that extreme to be classified as Pay to Win.

Just sharing my boredom for these repeat discussions. It's not insightful at all. Now what really is insightful is how down right unpleasant you come across right about now.

You wanna hug this out champ?

  • @daringclarky I offer my hand and you want a hug. It's just never enough for you kiddos. 6 feet my guy, 6 feet.

  • If players are currently discouraged from adventure mode to the point where they actively manipulate the game to play around it, perhaps we should look to what would encourage them to come back to adventure mode.

I have a friend who likes to dig up treasure chests. That's it. That's what he likes. what he doesn't like is spending 2-3 hours collecting loot only to have other people who have sunk 1000's of hours in the game getting good at PvP to stomp all over him and take what he spent time digging up. You lack the empathy needed to understand this problem, and you cannot solve it with "what can we do to make these people come back to play this." They don't want to (some of them). I don't know everyone's reasons for playing the games they play, but I can tell you for sure this is the reason my friend won't play SoT with me, and I know at least a few other people like that. Plus, there's the other responses about the young trolls who throw around the Nword, and the last time I played with my friend, we were flying the rainbow flag on our ship and we got harassed by a group of young bored players who thought it was funny to use homophobic slurs while they sunk our ship. These are systemic problems you can't solve, and I'm not saying this happens a lot, or even how many people that play SoT are like this, but it's enough. There is no way to choose the people you play with, so private servers seems like a really good solution to me for this problem.

Perhaps maybe a treasure chest digging simulator would be a better fit? Oh wait, I cant think of any, guess there just isnt a high demand for treasure chest digging simulators.

i think what you don't understand is the fact we have all been there

hell i remember my first time getting absolutely destroyed by a single guy it was a 2v1

me and my brother thought hey two against one we can win this easy

    (P.S we was wrong)

point is we have all been there pvp isn't my first go to for fun either i like doing quests like the next pirate

you have the same tools given to you as i did when i started off or well actually you have bombs now

learning to defend yourself is a good interest in both pve and pvp

also not to mention making pve servers would take alot of resources to create as it requires a whole new rework of how loot works whats grabable and whats not and how cannons can't register on player ships and resources which could be limited during these trying times

you bought this game did you not know that it was a combined pvp and pve experience? did you not pay attention or otherwise care to look into what your buying?

i like warcraft but i hate mmorpgs why would i then buy world of warcraft? what you are not understanding is "don't buy a game just because it has an enticing name or genre"

  • @rowge-gaming You're playing an online game obviously you will run into toxic encounters. This is an online game issue, nothing to do with SoT. You're assuming way too much also. Pretty ridiculous to assume I have no empathy, because I want them to encourage players to enjoy a mix of pvepvp, since that was the original design intent. I have similar friends that won't play currently for the same reason. I have had discussions with them on possible features that could be added in order to make them enjoy the game.

Some people are just very thin skinned and can not handle playing online games. People like this should really stick to either single player games or maybe scrabble at home.

  • @supersnipper60 why so? People spent time, earned what they found. They dont collect the heads of other crews, these are chests and fancy looking things. They can aswell lose it with kraken or pirate ship
If this would apply to arena, then yep, how can you achieve something peacefully there? This one is called adventure, and its ok to get promotions for the time and this way money you spend on it
A good thing is to remember at least WOW where you have peaceful zones, you still progress out there, would be strange if they took it away, isnt it?
    Here the same principle applies

Wow. Just wow. Do me a favor and don't ever reply to me again.

  • @rowge-gaming what's wrong with the rainbow flag?

I find it's a great tool to lure in cocky crews, so I can steal their loot.

I was explaining how I have friends who like to play this game, but only like the PvE aspect of it, not the PvP side of it, and I also told a story where were harassed for flying the rainbow flag, and that reply was telling to not fly it.

Well yeah that is a good reply. Fact is the rainbow flag attracts attention. Sadly it attracts attention from trolls more often than not. It seems like you and your crew are not interested at all in PvP in this PvPvE game so maybe you should try to lay low abit more.

  • @rowge-gaming to be fair it does have a political meaning behind it.

They should remove it from the game if its attracting behaviour such as harassment.

I'm sure exactly the same thing would happen if they put the Confederate flag in the game.

If you can't handle PvP, then go play a PvE game, such as No Man's Sky, Slime Rancher, or Minecraft.

  • So how can having PVE servers be unfair when all you get is cosmetics? I could see it being unfair if you could upgrade weapon damage but you can't. idk i'm at a loss, could someone give me a good reason for this?

  • @supersnipper60 No mans sky could have some fun pvp aspects if they worked on it.
