Support for "Motion Sickness" players.

  • Ahoy!
I dunno if i'm in the right topic but... ok.
So, my friend was so very excited when i gave her a month of Gamepass so she could play "Sea of Thieves" with me!
But, turns out, she have severe Motion Sickness and even turning the game on the lowest settings, taking medicine and etc... the shaking of the boat makes her very very very dizzy, nauseous and give her horrendous headaches and she can't play even for 10 minutes!
She couldn't even finnish the Maiden Voyage!
Now, she loves the game but can't play!
Are y'all planning on adding some feature that stops the boat from shaking? or i dunno... Some Support for those players who have "Motion Sickness"?

    Best Regards,
    Capt. Bagriolindo

  • That's a downright shame. I guess they won't be able to play at all, since ship physics is an integral part of gameplay. And I mean integral; the swell can affect your aim with the cannons and your overall course. Gunpowder Barrel explosions rock the ship. The whole thing sits lower in the sea when it's taken on water.

  • @bagriolindo Yeah that kinda stinks..not much they can do about that..it could have advantages vsing other players..plus to fix that they would have to take so many movements out of the game and it would not look or run naturally. Hate that she will probably just not be able to play the game. :/ I have motion sickness when in a car..so I know how it is, but I have never had it playing a game..has she tried wearing the band? That helps me.

  • @bagriolindo Unfortunately there's not much the devs can do about the boats rocking on the waves. I cant play VR at all because I instantly get sick, so i know the feeling.

  • @jebluscrhist i dont think she has money for this... also it would be only for the game cuz her motion sickness is only at sea :/

  • @bagriolindo

I figure her best option is to keep trying to play the game and force her body to not be sea sick. I think she can acclimate her body through repetition.....or motion sickness medicine?

  • My wife has the same problem. She gets super motion sick super quick, so what we did was plug a controller in to the pc and had her sit farther away so that it didn't seem like much movement. Farther away she was fine, sitting right in front of the screen made her super sick.

  • Also turning down the mouse and look sensitivity and broadening the field of view also helps me and I get motion sick as well.

  • try dramamine? being motion sick is the worst. I get sick on merry go rounds and swings so I know how it feels. those patches that a doctor can prescribe that goes behind the ear is a miracle but so expensive.

maybe they should try keeping their eye on the horizon as the ship is rocking.

  • Tell her to take a gravol and find a 420 friendly crew and enjoy!! :)

  • @bagriolindo sorry to hear about your friend. Motion sickness is the actual worst. Ruins your whole day. I used to get it in VR, awful. And lets face it, no one wants to be wondering why they feel sick right now.

If you get it playing games on a screen there are a couple of options, some have been mentioned above.

    1. Increase FoV.

    2. Move further back from the screen. Two metres is usually a decent distance.

    3. Use a controller.

    4. have an open window or fan blowing cool air on the back of your head/neck.

    5. Medications (be careful here, some meds have side effects, feeling sleepy for example, check with a pharmacist before taking anything)

    6. If your friend is of legal age, a couple of drinks might help, not too many, one or two sometimes helps, too many can go the other way and make it worse. Don't combine drinks with medications that can be dangerous.

    7. Have a light on behind the screen.

    8. Increase tolerance in small doses, start with 10 mins, take a 30 min break, increase gradually by no more than 5 mins at a time.

    9. Only play on a full stomach. Seems counter intuitive this one but for some reason it can help.

    10. Don't play while feeling tired.

    11. Ensure they are wearing any glasses or corrective lenses that they need. Consider getting an eye test if they haven't already.

    12. If you start to feel unwell while playing, stop straight away, place an ice-cube on the inside of your wrist or the back of your neck. That should cut through the nausea and stop the stomach churning feeling so at least the rest of the day isn't ruined.

Good luck. Motion sickness is pretty rough. Repeated exposure does reduce it in most people though. Hope everything works out for you.
