More Cursed Cannonball Colours

  • 3 concept Ideas (https://imgur.com/zRFqejz)

    None of the following ideas have both options in one, its just the basic concept. Some work better as green/purple but I have just pushed them together due to laziness.
    Some would not work altogther but hopefully this could inspire someone else to come up with viable options.

    That being said it'd be nice to see some different some more colours to Cursed Cannonballs such as;

    Blue - Water Effects

    Either shot at the ocean or at the ship depending on effects,
    Problems may occur near islands
    I didn't say they were perfect

    Shark Bait/ Chum Ball -

    Used to summon sharks.

    -Shot at the water = a number of sharks appear in the ocean to much on potential boarders, 5 max with no stacking ability.

    -Shot at a ship = Megalodon appears for a quick munch, 1 or 2 bites, before returning to the deep.

    Kraken Ball -

    Used to summon a few tentacles.

    -Shot at the water = Area of ink with 1 - 3 tentacles, lasts 30 seconds to a minute.

    -Shot at a ship = A small ink circle surrounds the enemy ship and a single tentacle wraps the enemy boat until the crew defeats it.

    Fog Ball -

    Used to mist the seas for a breif period, 30 seconds maybe, useful for escapes when carrying a great deal of loot.

    -Shot at the water = A static fog cloud appears from where the ball hit the water like a smoke bomb.

    -Shot at a ship = That boat is infested with a dense fog which hinders the crews sight.

    Storm Ball -

    Used to roughen the seas or crack down thunder on your foes. Useful for when needing to slow down persuing pirates

    -Shot at the water = Like the Fog ball, creates a static storm around the CCBs contact with the water.

    -Shot at a ship = Like the Fog ball again, A storm follows the ship for a period of time

    Red - Volcanic/Earth Effects

    Mostly shot at the land itself.

    Quake Ball -

    Used to "shake" things up

    -Shot at an island = Temporary earthquake, who'd have thunk it

    -Shot at a ship = shakes the boat making cannon aiming/ steering harder.

    Geyser Ball -

    -Spawns one or numerous geysers in the area, only works for land

    Boiling/Bubble Ball -

    When you need to heat things up

    -Shot at an island = the water surrounding the island starts to boil like that of the Devil's Roar when volcanoes erupt.

    -Shot at a ship = Any water inside the targeted ship is superheated making repairs troubling.

    White - Sky Effects (OP, not to be taken too serious)

    Shot into the sky, the explode like fireworks, manipulating the winds and the sky itself

    Becalming Ball -

    When your sick of the chase simply say no to the sky and turn off the wind

    -Shot in the air = A large AoE wherein the wind has died down. Any ship in this area drifts to a halt and has to hold off against whatever odds until the wind comes back.

    Wind Shear Ball -

    Want the wind in your favour, to stubborn to turn off course slightly. This is for you

    -Shot in the air = Reverses the wind for a time, speeding up your journey, or slowing others.

    Thunder Ball -

    Does what it says on the tin

    -Shot at a ship = peppers the ship in a shower of thunder

  • @jollyolsteamed not really, its just a basic concept to build upon. Obviously most wouldnt make it into the game due to them being OP but as a concept i think it has some weight. I very much doubt it'll stay as 2 colours of CCB over the next couple year, at least id hope for some more.

    Some of it seems redundant - for example, why shoot the water to get ink that they could potentially avoid when I could just use an anchorball on the ship itself? Furthermore, I don't like how you make them doubly effective by allowing them to hit the ship too, when that's basically the whole purpose of the purple CCBs.

    That said, I like your train of thought with aiming at the water, sky, or island.

    But yeah, mostly OP. 😅

    First of all- you have a good imagination, and I applaud you for coming up with the blue, red, white theme. That said, most of these suggestions are either too powerful, or would break the server if implemented.

    Rare's servers can only handle so many large elements (storms, fog, skeleton ships, krakens, megalodons, etc) at once, which is part of the reason why there are rules governing their spawn rate (such as Krakens not spawning while a fort is active). If players could summon these at will, you'll end up with massive lag as the game is suddenly forced to devote computing resources that it didn't have in reserve. Have you ever had an occasion where you couldn't draw a weapon or item for several seconds (usually when you're approaching an island or another ship)? Same concept.

    Despite those concerns, I think we can salvage the following ideas with minor changes:

    Shark Bait/Chum Ball could become a throwable (which tend to be more common than cursed cannonballs, yet are less powerful); maybe call it Chumbomb.
    Throwing one of these in the water will leave behind pieces of dead fish, which will increase the chances that a shark will spawn (e.g. it waits until the server has enough free memory before spawning a shark). You could throw a few of these around your ship if you suspect someone is trying to board- let the sharks flush them out of hiding.

    Fog Ball - this might work as a green cursed cannonball. Generating actual fog would put a strain on the servers, but simply causing affected players' vision to be affected as though they were in fog would probably be achievable

    Quake Ball - I see this as a purple version of the limpball; both remove the ability to run, although limpballs prevent you from jumping whereas earthquakes mess up your aim. Since it would affect everyone on the ship (rather than anyone caught in the blast radius), the effects should not last as long as the limpball for balance purposes.

    Boiling/Bubble Ball - this doesn't seem overpowered, and might work as a purple cannonball.

    None of the remaining cannonballs (especially the white ones) seem feasible from a balance (and a server load) perspective.

    I agree some might have limited if no use, these were more or less of the top of my head to give ideas.
    The ink one for instance though, if you are being chased by players but they are tailing you and you havent got a shot, you shoot the ink ball into the water the enemy ship is forced to turn left/right or to go through the ink. ( now i think about it, ink may be all thats needed for that one, the water variant anyway)

    Oh ill edit it, i don't mean they have a double effectiveness. They are just example of ways it could be used. I like how the green is players and purple is ships, i wouldnt change that.

    But yeah for sure these are over-powered but its just to get the ball rolling you know?

    Oh yeah I know these ones are over powered, just a basic concept to be edited and split up. For sure some would be purple/ green, i just put them under those categories to show what it would affect, plus I couldn't be bothered to write a green and purple list too hahah

    I like the idea of Chumbomb, be nice to see a firebomb jar with a bunch of meat and bait inside

    If it does come in, I do hope it's called "bubbleball" hahah

    Yeah the white ones were more or less to add length hahaha, i wouldn't expect to see them really, I wasnt really sure what could be a balanced option but maybe someone has an idea they'll share.

    I came up with a similar idea for a throwable called the Bilebomb (if you have access to the insiders program, you can view my post on that idea here).

    Glad I could help- constructive feedback is always a good thing, but people seem to prefer shutting poor ideas down outright rather than examining them for potential improvements.
