Idea Time #5: Scattered Seas!

  • Imagine if you could start up the game, and after you choose to go to Arena or Arena, a new option pops up:

    (Classic Sea) OR (Scattered Sea)

Upon picking Classic Sea, you will load into the Sea of Thieves we all know and love.

However, picking Scattered Sea will load you into a familiar world, except things just aren't right...

When the server starts up, the four Regions switch places randomly. Then, the Islands in that Region switch places randomly.

This allows the players who have learned the ins and outs of the Sea to generate some new fun by taking the world they've memorized, and scrambling it up.

There are two possible ways this system could take effect.

1: The Scattered Sea servers could be regenerated on every individual server. This likely generates more stress on the SOT servers, though.

2: The Scattered Sea servers could be regenerated once every 24 hours, meaning all servers created after the 24 hour period will be scattered identically. Players still on any servers from the previous day can still play on that one. This version would be much easier to manage, I'd imagine.

Tall Tales may have to be reworked, as some of them are built to work in the Classic Sea.

I think it would be really fun to try playing the game with a different layout of the world. Many player, myself included, have memorised the world by heart and would love to refresh that feeling.

What do you guys think? What do you like, what don't you like? What issues do you see? What would you like to add? Let me know.

    Cheers!

  • The Sea of Thieves servers couldn't handle having reefs spawn around sunken ships. I doubt they could handle the entire map changing.

  • @mferr11 Oh, no no no! The islands would swap places on the map, based on region. They wont just end up anywhere. The islands will still be at the same coordinates, just different islands would be there!
