Catch sharks with harpoons!

  • Harpoon a shark and reel her in.
She will resist and try pull away. Basically this will be a HARD version of the fishing mini game...with harpoons and not rods. If two people harpoon the same shark it makes it easier, its also a great teamwork activity, but its tricky. Reel too much it wriggles free. Lock the harpoon when its thrashing and then resume reeling when it calms down. You may need another player to turn the wheel etc to keep the shark infront of the ship.

Once its reeled in, it will be tied to the side of your ship with ropes.

There is a little hoist on each side of the ship which can be interacted with which effectively pulls the shark corpse from the side of the ship, right up to the deck and back down. This is for harvesting shark meat.

Hoist it up when you want a bit shark meat and slash with sword.
Hoist down to put the shark corpse alongside ship so you can sail.
You get more shark meat catching this way and once all meat taken it despawns.

You can also keep shark corpses on side of ship for decoration.

A sloop has hoist for 2 sharks (One either side)
    A Brigantine has 4 (2 a side)
    A galleon has 8 (4 a side)

To clarify, these hoists are hard to spot and arent really intrusive at all. Its simply a little but of rope trailing on the deck at the side of the ship. But when you have a shark, its all built up and looks properly set up, knots and rigging and things there making your ship look like a proper Hunters Faction ship, even Merrick would be proud.

    FOR SOLO
You can harpoon sharks on Harpoon Rowboats.
Its easier but takes a lot longer and you will be dragged considerably further away from your ship and need to row back. Reeled in, it will simply be knocked out and trail from your harpoon allowing you to row it back. However you can transfer it to your ships hoist simply docking your rowboat. The shark will disappear and appear on one of the sides of your main ship.

    BONUS
Dont need to worry about political correctness.
Its unlikely people are gonna campaign about video game shark cruelty because they are the jerks of the sea.

Even Ubisoft has sharks dangling on the side of ships in Assassins Creed. And we all know Ubisoft, they dont like taking much risks. Which is why the last flurry of games they're release is kinda ‘meh’.

That may or not be true, im actually unsure.
I kinda just felt like getting my cat claws out at Ubisoft for dramatic effect. In fairness i loved Odyssey.

But yeah, thats my idea folks!

  • the only reason i would see rare not implementing this is in general carcasses dissapear and this would be an inconsistency especially because well kids play the game and im not too sure rare is comfortable with the possible reprocussions of implementing something like this. but in general i would be down to see this.

  • @fllw3rb0y You’re probably right there.
