I mentioned this in a thread outside of this section but I guess I should add it here (for legal reasons, so I can disavow ownership of the idea and Rare can use it... if they want)
In the Pirate Picker Carousel for new players I suggest two things:

A pop-up notification that warns the player that to choose their pirate carefully as certain aspects of them cannot be modified after - perhaps listing things that can and cannot be changed.

When you favourite a pirate, it should give you another option to reroll based on favourites and generate similar-looking pirates. This would be an an additional option to the random reroll - i.e. another button.
I still think that, long-term, more character customisation would be better but these ideas would at least help alleviate some frustrations with newer players... many of whom don't realise their character, for the most part, can't be changed.
