Streamers are too quick to call "stream sniping" when they get jacked.

  • Yesterday, my crew and I were tucked on a Fort of the Damned while another crew was working on clearing it. When they finished off Grey Marrow and opened the vault, we jumped them and managed to make off with the Chest of Legends. It turns out that these guys were fairly popular streamers whom I won't name, and when we were miles ahead of them (they were still sitting at the fort and hadn't given chase yet) and about a minute from Ancient Spire Outpost, a member of my crew couldn't resist jumping on his stream for a little gloating. Because of this, the streamers wanted to say that we stream sniped them the entire fight which just isn't true, only after we had won and made off with the loot did one of us jump in the stream. To me they had to make some kind of excuse as to why they got yoinked to try and save face. But this is a common thing among streamers with inflated egos who just can't seem to fathom that they we're beaten fair and square. Thoughts?

Non rules against private messaging those names. Hint, hint, wink, wink. I've had similar thing happened to me I am curious if its the same person/group of people.

  • Dont worry about it mate. Summit, Ninja, Dr Disrespect, even Pace 22... they are all toxic streamers and cater for people who revel in grief. Accept they are mad at you and move on. They are a majority of idiots who have a sycophantic following.

  • If you jumped on the stream to gloat, can you blame them for thinking you had probably been sniping? Seems like a logical assumption to me?

  • @bendertheblack

I mean, yeah, they jumped to a conclusion. But you did kinda introduce the implication by gloating on their stream.

By streaming, they're putting themselves out there publically, so I think you were perfectly within your rights to give 'em the business on their stream. But then you should be prepared to accept the consequences if someone misinterprets it.

  • @v_ca-hombre yep. If they hadn't gone to gloat (which isn't exactly an example of good sportsmanship) then the streamers wouldn't have had to make excuses for their loss.

It's one bit of bad sportsmanship causing another in my opinion.

For example: you might tell great jokes, but if you go to a stand-up show and try telling them from the audience while the comedian is doing his set, you can expect to get shut down pretty hard. Same rules apply to going to someone's stream to gloat, goad or bait.

  • i wouldnt streamsnipe, idk if it true but i think its not ok ban people for stremasniping permanent.i think its just impossible to be 100% sure that someone sniped you ,you dont want to get sniped, dont stream and enjoy the game instead

  • Never could understand, what is and how stream snipping is even possible.

With a game that has servers, and unsure what server you are even in. The time it takes to switch servers....How would one even do such a thing without burning/wasting time just to find a player who is streaming....

  • @burnbacon I believe the standard practice is to see the names of the players the streamer is playing against, and then message them and try to talk them out of their boat. Being able to scramble names has certainly helped the streamers avoid this. Sometimes players recognize a streamer and then join the stream to snipe it.

Personally I wouldn't want to snipe, but I will say that our crew sailed against a Mixer streamer for a few hours with lots of battles, and afterwards I watched the stream multiple times to scout our team, see what we were doing correctly, what we could be doing better. It was an eye opening experience for sure. Sail management needed some work 😂

  • I've come across a few streamers in this game.

Gloating isn't cool. Please don't do it.

I've popped into their chats to say GG if I failed at stealing and none of them have ever gloated about it. Usually they're thankful for the competition and seem to be appreciative that you recognize them.

  • Well if you feel guilty about it, just remember they make piles of $$$. It's a risk of the job I'd say. They can always stop streaming if they hate being streamsniped so much (that's why I do with jobs I don't like). But that would mean they would have to find a regular job so that's not going to happen ;)

Seriously though, don't bother too much mate. Streamers tend to yell "Streamsniped" right away when they lose a battle and things don't go as they want. Just lower your sails and move on to the next!

  • Sorry to say, but from an outside look, it do sound like you crew was streamsniping.
Although you where maybe not, just the fact that you where tucked on the fort, an waited out for them to finish, who to say you or your crew didn't check in on them.
special when you write a taunt message afterwards.

Do not really care if you where or not, they could just use the option to Hide/change there gamertag.

It's just the risk that comes with streaming, you see it in all games, where streamers are "forced" to keep there bases location hidden, otherwise the griefers come to take you down, but again, its the risk you take.

  • Watch the summet stream, one person against 4 people, double gun sniper blunder vs 4 people 100% xbox players get owned by keyboard and mouse. Im sick of this crp, why should controller users be put with mouse and keybored users?.

  • @bendertheblack well lets see, RARE advocate streamers like PACE22 who does exactly what you did, hide and "tuck".....let others do all the work....then pounce to steal the rewards and celebrate like "we're pirates yo"

end of the day, this style of play is absolutely encouraged by RARE because its the new META they allow their pet streamers to constantly showcase. So sooner or later those same streamers were going to get hit with the same tactic and now they default to "has to be stream snipers"......either way they hated being done over the same way people just trying to play this game hate to be done over and its what makes the game with such big events so toxic to the majority of the SoT community on either platform but especially Xbox.

Another justification to bring Opt out finally into Adventure and perhaps RARE need to decide what is more important to them, having streamers showcasing the game positively or relishing in the fact a few of the streamers have a community of Fans happy to replicate their style of negative experience for all to see.

Turn about is fair play imo, you gave them what they have no doubt done to others....all sounds like a lame way to play this game to me

  • @bendertheblack said in Streamers are too quick to call "stream sniping" when they get jacked.:

about a minute from Ancient Spire Outpost, a member of my crew couldn't resist jumping on his stream for a little gloating.

If you want to avoid being accused and possibly face a ban, don't go in their stream. Period.

You have nothing to gain from doing that. Absolutely nothing, and risk a lot.

Quite a few streamers will have their recent players open on the Xbox Companion App and will compare that with who is in their stream chat list, so if they see you lurking (with the same name) of course it looks very suspicious.

  • So yesterday, I had a run in with a prominent streamer who was streaming with another. They did the usually hide on the FOTD, they were discovered. Now they did say it was "iffy" in the VOD, but I give them props for not calling stream snipe. That being said, their chat is full of dinguses who have zero clue. I'm guessing chat plays a negative role on influencing some streamers to jump to the Stream snipe conclusion.

Those chat members have no clue on how we can know stuff without even watching stream. For example their initial discover, the streamers used their mics. How does proximity chat work again? It doesn't take a big brain moment to figure out what direction the sound came from when people are standing right above you on the cliff. Their was other instances of how chat claimed sniping because we knew when they board. Again, this isn't hard to know. If some crew shoots the cannon 4 times and you only see 3 cannonballs flying towards you, what else could it be? Even swimming sounds are a giveaway.

Good streamer interaction, but the chat had dummy dumbs in it. For those that care, we sunk twice. Still a great fight, pve was riding us nonstop, but regardless of that interaction I think our loss was inevitable.

  • Couldn't have been that popular a streamer, the popular ones rarely actually do the fort.

  • @realstyli I agree with your point.
our mates and I have taken on forts and also the damed and still as gane says sea of THIEVES so after constant trusting no one except your ship mates expect that unless you have a long haul with your alliance. just because your alliance don't make them your best friend for sure... we,ve been sank by these so called alliance peeps ITS ALL A PLOY BE A PIRATE be humble to you and no one else. mabe thgose skelys need to return all those coins to become mortal again right
