First Pirate Legend boosting.

He doesn't need to get positively recognized for cheating the system folks, stop encouraging and celebrating it.

You know dang well that's not how you're supposed to be doing it.

Right, instead you're supposed to do thousands of extremely boring fetch quests over and over for a reward that is currently unknown...

Meh... I don't care how the first person gets legendary, I just want to see if the grind is worth it.

  • Wow what a loser.

    It's not.

  • @personalc0ffee said in First Pirate Legend boosting.:

Will you still be saying that if he gets rewarded with an easter egg, a special one of a kind unique cosmetic, and an achievement? Would you also be saying that if you already knew what happened once you attained legendary status?

He's cheating his way to the top, he deserves none of it. I don't care if it's "smart" or he's resourceful. He is not earning that himself (cheating) and he and others like him have no place being rewarded for cheating the system.

Sure. Because chances are there are 100 other people doing the same thing he is, if not more.. or at least are letting other people playing their account to be constantly leveling, so either way there's no way i would get it. So all the power to them lol. Are you close to legendary?

  • Howdy,

Would be nice to have stats like fort keys/skulls/chests stolen, turned in etc... things like that... I mean it s a pvp pirate game.

It's super fun to pull off amazing stuff but there's no trace of it whatsover. The legendary status is based on a massive, ultra redondant grind...

The incredible scenarios that go down create great memories, but it's quite a shame that nothing shows for such feats in the game... The achievement system is quite the joke and the legendary status may well be the same.

    Yarrrrr ? Why ? xD

it's not a big deal really, let it go. there are other things worth your time to think about besides this. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a crew out there splitting shifts so they're grinding 24/7 and beat the streamer to it. just relax and forget about it

  • Real legendary pirates steal their loot... So even if they get the official status it means very little.

Boosting seems pretty stupid but I don't really care, it won't affect me.

    P. S. If you are trying to be the first then your doing it wrong. Play for fun. I swear so many people forget that is the primary function of a game.

    It's pretty damn piratey!

  • While he is indeed boosting, it's a bit of a grey area for me. If people are not forced to help him level up, then I'm not sure how Rare can enforce this. Personally speaking, I'm not affected with what he's doing. I'm actually looking forward to see what happens when he becomes Pirate Legend. I want to see the content fitting for a pirate legend. Hehehe. I'm assuming "normal" pirates won't be able to do those quests with him anymore.

  • Working as intended.

"Sea of Thieves design director Mike Chapman made it clear that Rare has no intention to impose a specific progression system on players before they can experience certain parts of the game. Quite the opposite.

“The idea is that players share voyages,” Chapman said. “Power-levelling is, I guess, a bad thing in other games. It’s the best thing in Sea Of Thieves, and we’ve fully embraced it. You want to play with people in your crew at a different level of promotion. You want to have that feeling of, ‘They’ve got something I don’t yet have access to’. And by forging those connections with others, it’s that whole story of, ‘Jack Sparrow’s got the map to Fountain of Youth – but he needs a crew to go and get it."

“People want to be friends with a Pirate Legend. They can’t get access to the hideout or Legendary Voyages unless they’re with you. This is kind of the endgame for Sea Of Thieves at launch. It’s going to be fascinating to see. Do Legends play with Legends? Do they play with people who’ve just started, and shepherd other people into the game?”

  • @killjoyplays I don't care if he chooses not to play the game but still invest his time. Sounds like he's losing out tbh.

  • While what he's doing essentially amounts to "EXP leeching," (see other MMOs like FFXI) ... it is very much another form of power-levelling/boosting. That's his prerogative unless its against ToS.

However, as stated in the article I mentioned above, power-levelling is encouraged. What this guy actually does with the title matters more than the means he got there.

Will he power level others? Hog the title to himself? Will we all be pirate legends in 5 weeks?

Even so, I wouldn't doubt if there is very little content for pirate legend right now.

  • @PersonalC0ffee You are such a lily-livered, hypocritical, envious, sack of codfish guts. Isn't this all about creating your story? Living your adventure? Making your own fun? Isn't that what you said? He's done exactly that and you whine and moan about it. You are a despicable person. He's gotten other crews to cooperate with him for a goal. That is exactly what the pirate legend is about, no? The mechanics are in the game that you so continuously praise as being perfect. Your dismay amuses me to no end.

Holy [mod edited] Mike Chapman is full of [mod edited]!
He's gone full molyneux in that quote, given that at any level of play, whether a sailor or a veteran, ALL OF THE QUESTS ARE THE SAME THING.

It's such a perfect example of the overblown and exaggerated [mod edited] that they said the game was about, yet is entirely lacking.

  • We're humans, we're always going to look for the way of least resistance to achieve a goal and most of the time, designers cant predict every "solution."
But who cares? Why does it matter? We're all gonna be x3 50 soon anyways.

  • @kigretheviking idk about being 50/50/50 soon at this rate :)

  • @crusader-zorro Maybe i am just awesome then! ;)

They're not all the same. When you're a legend you dig up LEGENDARY treasure chests, collect LEGENDARY skulls, and capture LEGENDARY pigs and chickens.

  • It is cheap and low played, especially for a streamer. And people helping to do this are just dumb....there will be no glory in achieving the goal when done like that.

  • I think this is a great idea! Players are joining to forge the first pirate legend together. Cooperation for a greater goal,
It is inspiring and a lot of people should think about coorperating more. You can accomplish a lot more if you play together. The game rewards players for coorperating gameplay in a way much higher than boring ingame progression.

Look at communties like Ingress where both fractions, who are normaly fighting against each other, join forces to draw great images on the map. Coorperation is not rewarded in any way in that game, you can not even share any loot, still they learned that you get a lot of satisfaction by archiving a greater goal together.

I think these are the stories that the developers wanted to be experienced by the players.

And this legendary community is currently one of the few players who actually got what the game is about.

  • The whole thing is a shame now all of it

  • @salem-vice sagte in First Pirate Legend boosting.:

@killjoyplays If he gets an easter egg for cheesing his way to legend, then that'll be lame.

    this!
and i´ll be very very very very disappointed from RARE.
No one deserves a easteregg he didn´t work hard himself for like all the others with eastereggs did!

  • @talonwren said in First Pirate Legend boosting.:

I think everyone is looking at this the wrong way. Let's welcome him to becoming pirate legend. I say this because we THEN get to see whats actually waiting after all this grind. (And if we will have to bring out the pitchforks)

I honestly think once he gets it and starts to power lvl others to 50 fast and effectively using the game mechanics the way it is, will find that RARE actually nerfs things and makes it much harder to share higher experiences with lower lvls. It is not a good thing to tell others about potential exploits, or exploiting the game mechanics.

I do get it, really i do why he wishes to become first but only because he is streaming and also wants $$$ subs.

    Clickbait?

  • 49/48/48!

Only a few more hours until Prod1gyX shows us if the grind to endgame is worth it.

  • @killjoyplays Why should it suck? It's a community driven game. That guy works with the community (actually it was the other way around, they wanted him to do it, until level 30 he was playing like everybody else) to achieve a goal. It's great. In the end we will find out if the grind to legendary is even worth it. And that's better than going through the ordeal on your own and being disappointed afterwards.

Only salty people complain about this. Rare even congratulated him on doing this and said they are ok with it. But of course salty people know better.

  • @inhumaneandrew sagte in First Pirate Legend boosting.:

    @killjoyplays actually the closest person is sniper isn't it? He's at 49 46 40

How is 49-48-48 not closer than 49-46-40? Sniper will take at least two more days to get the merchant's to 50. Probably more, because he only does forts so far.

  • @ball-o-cheese
Rare has said the game doesn't really start till your reach Legend. There's a whole new world once you reach it.

  • Wow! We all trie our best to grind our way to our Pirate legend and that guy cheats his way up the ranks? Pls @deckhands make rare reset his ranks and name a skeleton after him with no hands just running after the other Skeletons.

  • @im-the-beer-man said in First Pirate Legend boosting.:

Rare has said the game doesn't really start till your reach Legend. There's a whole new world once you reach it.

If that was the case, then the sheer level of repetition in the quests beforehand was a massive mistake on their part. You don't have your game "really start" after 50 hours of tedium, grinding the same three quests. And that goes for profits too - they want to sell them microtransactions, so it's important to hook as much of the community in as possible.

Personally, I suspect that "Legendary" is going to be a ceremonial title for the moment. There might be a few cosmetics - who knows.

As for this guy getting boosted, this is absolutely "clever use of game mechanics", so that's cool. With any luck he'll have made it before tomorrow.

  • Well, if people find it fun to be someone else slave, following instead of living their own adventure, it's their choice. The game is made to let you have fun the way you want so... enjoy being a sheep o/

Yeah, sorry to disappoint you, that's not what they said. They said for now, getting to legend is the goal of the game. Not that it starts something new.

  • If I see him on the sea ill sink him purley for being cheap and not roughing through it himself.
he may hit legend soon but he is far from one.

  • @tuxydoh honestly I don't think you can tarnish a title that doesn't really mean anything. It just signifies that you cleared out the game's monotonous grind at the moment.

I hope he finishes soon and shows off what being a Legend actually gets you. I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't any Legendary content in the game right now.

  • I couldn't give a flying do dahs one way or the other. He plays his game one way, I another. it won't impact the way I, or my real friends, play. It will be interesting to see what content comes after a chat with the bloke in the bar though. Just to see if it's worth aiming for. Not that we will rush to get there. Got far too much real life stuff to do as well. My vinyl collection needs sorting for one.
