I was looking forward to the bone caller being released, and it is fun to have just to cause a little distraction or mess around with the skeletons. But unfortunately I feel like it isn't as useful as it could be just because of the ai. I have been able to use it to board people, which was useful, but mostly just because it causes noise.
Any time I use the bone caller in combat (either pve or pvp) the skeletons often just stand there looking at the enemy without actually doing anything. I've seen one of my bone caller skeletons stand there and lock eyes with an enemy skeleton and do nothing, occasionally doing the animation for when a skeleton realizes that someone's there, but then going back to their casual stance and not actually attacking at all.
I also just lost a pve ship fight because I believed my skeletons would be attacking the player on his ship. He was on the cannons, and was able to kill me with a cannonball (in part my fault, I should have eaten but I had assumed that the skeletons would have knocked him off the cannons since they'd only have to have hit him once with a sword.) It was unfortunate because the bonecaller skeletons that should have been able to stop him from using the cannons or at least do SOME damage to him quite literally just stood around him in a circle and watched him kill me lol. When I got back I had sunk (I lost everything I had but was too lazy to go back and grab it), which was unfortunate but didn't really matter, but I feel like if I were in a situation where I have something important I didn't want to lose, the bonecaller isn't something I would go to for help to survive.
Now idk how coding works so I don't know how hard it would be to improve it by making bonecallers skeletons more aware and more aggressive, but I think it's something to look into if they're using the same ai for the burning blade that's being released soon. I also don't know if this has been an issue for anyone other than me, maybe I've just been unlucky and encountered some unfortunate glitches, but if this is just an issue with the coding then I feel like the burning blade event would be very difficult to manage as a solo crew, or even a duo. If the skeletons are incapable of seeing enemies right in front of them, or, even if they do, refusing to attack, I don't think smaller crews will be able to manage the Burning Blade on their own.
Just thought I would throw it out, although I reflecting I'm sure that the devs would have done something about it already if it was a widespread issue amongst the playerbase.
