Rare - Fix your game for the love of god

  • I am so angry at this game. Never in my entire life have I played a game where every aspect of it is riddled with bugs and glitches.

    Sailing?? Glitches

    Cannons?? - Glitches

    Eating?? - Glitches

    Fishing?? - Glitches

    Repairing?? - Glitches

    Mermaids?? - Glitches

    Spawning?? - Glitches

    Combat?? - HELLA GLITCHES

This game is RIDDLED with freaking bugs and glitches and it is the ONLY game I know like this.

I'm tired by the inactivity of Rare and their freaking utter silence on the game. The season update was suppose to allow you guys time to fix this nonsense yet you still put freaking events into the game. Festival of fishing??

Is this some kind of horrible and childish way to get rid of PvP players?? Do you intentionally leave your game in this garbage state because you want your players to leave??

How do you feel that in during the streams players say "Oh I got Rare'd" or "Why this game is so horribly glitchy".

The community uses your name as an insult. AS AN INSULT TO THE GAME. How can you for the life of me allow this to go on??

How can a game that as it gets OLDER gets more and more bugs and glitches?? Other games have maybe one glitch or maybe like 2 bugs for some kind of update but that gets fixed within a month. You guys legitimately just create more and more content while creating more and more bugs.

"Hey guys, we released a new update that is time limited. You only have a week to do it. We hope you enjoy the new update and have fun, oh and please ignore the fact that you don't get credit for anything you do for 3 of those days because we released the update without fixing anything. So I guess instead of a week you only really have 4 days, but don't worry, by the time we have out next update out you'll have to deal with a whole new set of bugs, because we here at Rare believe that releasing content is more important that fixing our glitches!!"

If this sounds like a "u mad bro" moment, trust me, it totally is.

  • Totally agree. all the devs do is release more and more content and do not fix what needs to be fixed. STOP the CONTENT updates and FIX quality of life. as the years have gone on there are only more and more bugs and more and more unhappy players. for a company that revels in how many players play the game, its sad to know that almost all of those players will leave within a year BECAUSE of the games bugs and glitches.

How long has hit reg issues been in the "Known issues" section? 2 years rare. TWO. FIX the known issues BEFORE releasing more content. my entire crew of eight day one players have been here since the start and we are so tired of playing a broken game we literally want to stop playing, but we also care about the game and so for one last push PLEASE FOCUS on what is important. you continue time and time again to release more content and introduce new bugs to the game, that's fine. but FIX them before releasing the NEXT content update. its so bad I have spoken to so many players, day one players. returning players, and players who are just done. not because of content. its ALWAYS because of the buggy and laggy content and features that have never been fixed.

Rare for the love of sea of thieves you need to take a step back and Focus on improving the game, not extending the game. even a few months of fixing things will make it so much more enjoyable.

PVP needs attention. there are so many of us players out there that pvp and its so difficult to deal with so many bugs all at once. eat food? sorry you didn't ACTUALLY eat it. shoot someone? hit marker but no damage. firing a cannon? well actually you already have it loaded but it wont say or show that. you wanna run? how about running at slower than walking pace.....and hundreds more. ridiculous.

What an amazing game you have here. but unfortunately you wont fix the real issues. just keep releasing more content hoping we wont notice that hit reg and many other things have been a known issue for so long.

We have had some Amazing adventures on sea of thieves. and keep playing trying to have more, but its just not fun when everything you are tying to accomplish is buggy, glitchy. or just does not work. I have not played a single other game in my life that is this buggy three years into the game. and right now, we are nearing our end, we cant keep enjoying a game like this. and its sad because we have played thousands and thousands of hours over three long years. if nothing changes we will just fade out like all the other original players have. and not because the game is not good or we are bored, but because of the plethora of issues that just have not been addressed.

  • Think you need to explain more besides saying "Glitches"

What is these glitches and how are they?
Sailing- What is glitching for you?

FYI, Most of these glitches are caused by the connection between the Player and Server and not the game itself.

FYI, Most of these glitches are caused by the connection between the Player and Server and not the game itself.

Some of the glitches are server related but not all of them, also a glitch between player and server was non-existent before they migrated to the azure servers. I don't remember ANY of these glitches when the game first came out and its only gotten worse.

The one glitch I remember from back then would have been the flying ship glitch. When a ship is sinking it suddenly launches into the air. Besides that I don't remember any issues with the game.

Sailing - Glitching through the boat, getting caught in invisible walls.

This isn't "lag" or "latency" with the servers. Some of these issues are the servers being garbage and not being able to calculate everything or just having problems in general other problems is coding and LOTS of coding. Some of it might seem like server problems when its actually coding.

If the servers are the problem then get better servers. If they can't get better servers then freaking tone down the game so that it will work on the servers.

Cyberpunk just got sued for the company releasing a game that was riddled with bugs for the console. There are more bugs in this game then any other game that I know.

SIDE NOTE Actually a lot of these glitches are issues with the game. Not server side. Hit Registration problems server side, but mostly everything else is the game.

  • @xultanis-dragon I agree with everything except the anger; but probably because I moved on to the acceptance stage. This game is what it is lol.

Is it unfortunate that it has so many bugs? Absolutely, but I don't think Rare intentionally leaves them in to drive anyone away. However, they really should be prioritizing bugfixes and optimization (or whatever improves reg, idk) over everything else. There's already enough to do in the game, and mundane fishing events really added nothing. They should focus everything on improving what we already have.

  • For me game was really good, but something happened a couple of months ago and started lagging like crazy and because of lag all other glitches happened. Same problem have also all my friends.

Sea of thieves used to be game i always using as an example how servers are good but i cant say that anymore because its not.

I dont know if thats because of new content, more players in corona time but that needs to be fixed.

I can tolerate any bug and glitch because its "normal". You cant make the perfect game without bugs but for god sake please fix lag or upgrade the server or just give us a reason why its happening, maybe its on our end.

  • I Rarely experience game breaking issues on my end. but... i don't pvp much, true!

And some people still think that the team focuses only on one aspect... like all the artists, desginers and programmers and whatnot only focuses on one aspect of the game...
sure, i bet artists could take a break from their job for months or just you know get involved in fixing bugs lol.

I believe, events get decided early on... They know what events they gonna launch from the get go. In acting or entertainment in general, when you do an oopsie, you still carry on with your performance. Same with a live service. You continue however you can. Because you have a job, a boss, deadlines... restrictments... all sort of things, you guys don't even think about.

Give them time, updates rolling out, new stuff coming. You're all hella impatient.
If you don't like the game, give yourself a break from it. Leaving the game is also a valuable feedback, you know. They see you complain, but still playing it.. they will think it's not that serious if you're still here.

tl;dr: if it's so horrible just take a break from it, that's also a feedback.

  • Yeap if the game its not going right for you make a break and come after few week, you will enjoy more.

Its hard to balance. They know everything whats happening but they cant focus only on one problem because the community is large.

If they focus on fixing glitches and lags some people will complain why there is no new content and game progression and if they focus on adding new content people will complain why they dont fix bugs. So its very hard to balance such a large game and player needs.

  • I have to agree. I do play the game every day and love it but it does have more bugs than any game I've ever seen. I've accepted that I will get Rared countless times on a daily basis. It is sad there are so many things that have been in the game forever and not been fixed. Hit Reg is a good example and I've said recently in a post I made that they have said for nearly a year in every update that it is a high priority to the team yet nothing ever gets fixed. I think it would be more beneficial for Rare to admit they don't know how to fix it (which is what I think most have come to believe), how much time they expect it to be or that they will have to co-op with other devs to solve it. To me it feels like the fans are constantly lied too. Just say the what the truth is. I also think that saying the Seasons release was to concentrate more on bugs and only more have been introduced is ludicrous. I think the amount of bugs fixed between Seasons One and Two will be the make or break for many. So many have said to stop the updates and focus on fixing the game. The fact that no bugs have been fixed so far and only more introduced between Seasons just drives home the belief that they dont know how to fix it. Rare is an amazing studio that has released some of the most amazing games in the history of gaming. It is sad for me to see such a beloved studio now be known for bugs to the point their name is used for getting screwed over, not only in game but in other games and IRL. I do hope Rare realizes this and makes changes for the better.

  • Like some have already posted here, you can't please everyone. But sure this is not about pleasing, but about fixing their game.

I have not experienced many bugs at all and I feel there is this sense of entitlement on these forums where people seem to forget it is real people working on a project that they seem to care for deeply.

There are so many game companies out there and most of them don't put in this time or effort.

Yes, you mention that other games after a year or two fix bugs instead of new ones coming all the time. But you might be forgetting that this is an online, constantly evolving game. It seems more that you are not very familiar with game development or coding etc. (Not like I am some kind of savant on the subject)

But when they add something, change something. Then this is new lines of code. Most of the time it can be the smallest, dumbest thing that can ruin an entire thing. You could have 9292849 lines of code for this game. But if you just forget one little thing, like a / in the middle of walls and walls of text. All of the sudden the entire game breaks.

Rare is made up of multiple different areas of development most likely, so you don't ask the CEO, marketing director or designers to go and write the code and find the bugs. That is a certain area within the company that handles this.

Why is this usually something that happens all to often, no matter what game you look at. People complain because they think that releasing one thing or doing one thing means the entire staff is just doing that alone.

And about their name being used as an insult? Yes hello? This happens in any online game I am afraid. "Thanks Volvo!(Valve) You just ruined the game" or "Wauw Gaben(Gabe Newell from Valve) really? Gotta do me like that, so greedy!"
This is not a unique ting that just happens to Rare my friend.

Nobody in their right mind at Rare would ever just on purpose ruin this game on purpose. Even if they wanted to, then Microsoft would stop them.
Stop trying to make the company look or sound evil. It is their game and they are doing a fine job, support them instead of throwing insults towards them.

    Thank you :)

    This. 👆

  • @xultanis-dragon The main group of players who feel the effects of the compounding and game breaking bugs are veteran players. New players do not have a reference point of how the game should feel or operate. Unfortunately, Rare's business model is predicated around Game Pass, so it will always be a revolving door of new players and player retention will never be Rare's focus. It's about how many new players they can bring in for that quarter and how much money said players are spending on Ancient coins.

Why fix the game when the average player will play for a few months and in that time buys $50 - $100 in Emporium cosmetics before uninstalling Sea of Thieves for a new Game Pass title?

The coding of the game and the server stability need some serious attention. At this point, both are stretched to their limits and adding any additional content will create bugs and errors that will need months, if not years to iron out. Maybe rare should consider removing galleons from the game and making the Devil's Roar it's own instance. Perhaps performance would improve with less stress on the system.

But at least fishing works pretty well...

    Guh-Huh!

  • @stewcha-kun

They can pause content updates. Almost every game does updates every 3 months or 6 months to give it time to work out all the bugs and the content updates are HIGHER.

You don't need weekly updates. You don't need monthly updates. Updating weekly versus every 3 to 6 months is the same amount of content, except one is more polished than the other.

Also, I just got longbearded from the game after have taken out 2 other sloops that were in an alliance. Athena loot, flags, collectors chests full of loot. Not to mention the blackcloud wrecker I had. Not to mention the massive amounts of supplies and cursed cannon balls.

This is of course AFTER my crewmate left about an hour and half prior and the game locking my lobby. I couldn't invite anyone nor could anyone join.

After the longbeard?? It didn't let me rejoin my session either.

Do players actually have no idea how bad this game is mechanically?? Do they really want updates more than a working game??

Playing this game is like having someone scratch nails on the chalk board while doing updates, this is fun for players??

Yesterday we got merged out of a server that was doing a fotd after the game did everything its in power to mess with us. Spawning 2 skelly ships on us while we were fighting the brig. I got glitched while eating. My cannon shots shooting higher or lower than they are suppose to be. Hit registration. The movement glitch that freeze your character into place until you completely stop moving for a full second. The best part is we sink and I figure thats fine, game Rare'd us like 20 times, we can go back and do it better without having to deal with all of that now. MERGES US. There were 3 other ships on the server. WE KNOW WE SAW THEM. We weren't the only ones going for that FoTD.

First time we sank and we get merged.

Not being able to repair the sails when it gets chainshotted.

I don't care about updates, I want a polished game.

For the love of god Cyberpunk got sued over this, other companies have as well.

The beauty of people leaving because of no content, is that they come right back when the content is back and guess what, EVERYONE will have more fun if the game is FREAKING WORKING.

  • @ippoc said in Rare - Fix your game for the love of god:

Like some have already posted here, you can't please everyone. But sure this is not about pleasing, but about fixing their game.

This isn't about pleasing everyone. The game is broken. This is a broken game. Ever remember how big an update shrouded shores was?? It was a massive update with tons of content.

EVERYONE loved it. Large massive update that they waited to release. YAY it worked.

The content will be released. It the content WILL come out. How about focusing on fixing the game first.

I have not experienced many bugs at all and I feel there is this sense of entitlement on these forums where people seem to forget it is real people working on a project that they seem to care for deeply.

No one is forgetting that real people are working on this. Real people however are working on other things and not fixing bugs. They are releasing stuff in too high a frequency to EVER actually make quality checks to the game.

The reason why they keep sprinkling little updates here and there is for the players who grind though everything in a single day. Give them a super large update that should take a regular person a month or 2 to complete, they will complete it in a week and then complain there is nothing to do in the game. That is their problem.

There are so many game companies out there and most of them don't put in this time or effort.

All companies put in this time and effort. Other games do expansions or super large content updates.

Rare does something like the festival of fishing. You call that an update??

They could have taken everything they released in the past 6 months and did one large update while making sure the game WORKS. Guess what, we still get the update but we also get a polished game.

Yes, you mention that other games after a year or two fix bugs instead of new ones coming all the time. But you might be forgetting that this is an online, constantly evolving game. It seems more that you are not very familiar with game development or coding etc. (Not like I am some kind of savant on the subject)

No not after a year or 2 fix bugs. They fix the bugs in a week or 2, not YEAR.

Once the bug is realized they find it and fix it up with a hot fix or in the next possible patch update that they may release in a month.

Every bug in Sea of Thieves has been in sea of thieves for years of even months and then they give us NEW bugs that they never fix.

Dude I am familiar with coding and development. This is not an constantly evolving game. This game only evolves as much as they release and as quickly as they releases, aka. Not any faster or more than any other game with an online presence.

Is this your first online game??

But when they add something, change something. Then this is new lines of code. Most of the time it can be the smallest, dumbest thing that can ruin an entire thing. You could have 9292849 lines of code for this game. But if you just forget one little thing, like a / in the middle of walls and walls of text. All of the sudden the entire game breaks.

Dude this isn't all of a sudden. The game has HAD the same bugs for a long time now. They say they fix it but they never did. Its still part of the game.

The problem with releasing fast updates is that if you can't fix and polish the game before the next update, you have no way to narrow down where the bug or the problem is and you keep added more and more updates before fixing any of the issues then you are just compounding the problems.

They are making it HARDER to fix.

Rare is made up of multiple different areas of development most likely, so you don't ask the CEO, marketing director or designers to go and write the code and find the bugs. That is a certain area within the company that handles this.

This comment is completely pointless to the discussion and I have no idea why you even added it.

Why is this usually something that happens all to often, no matter what game you look at. People complain because they think that releasing one thing or doing one thing means the entire staff is just doing that alone.

No, what people look at is the company has made a decision to release more and more content. The developers can instead suggest "HEY GUYS WE WANT TO FIX THE GAME BECAUSE ITS GARBAGE!!!"

Except we don't get that. Except we haven't actually gotten ANY NEWS from Rare since even before covid.

The developers have taken a back seat to this game and haven't really answered any of the issues plauging this game.

You know what other companies do?? They have a presence in the forums and they release dev blogs to help answer questions.

You know what this game does?? NOTHING.

Rare employee's instead are just going around acting as moderators to the forums and there has been no actually discussion on the state of the game or the constant issues. Instead we get this

"Hey guys Joe Neate here with another dev update, so we are releasing more content and more stuff for the emporium. Our community is growing larger and larger. Now lets talk about the update" - They talk about the update and thats IT.

Other companies are used their names as insults when it comes to money grubbing transactions. Queue in the "so greedy" comment.

Rare is the only one that is used as a statement of a poorly developed game. There is no other game I know of where the glitches are problems are left and right in the game as this one.

Nobody in their right mind at Rare would ever just on purpose ruin this game on purpose. Even if they wanted to, then Microsoft would stop them.
Stop trying to make the company look or sound evil. It is their game and they are doing a fine job, support them instead of throwing insults towards them.

The company does look and sounds evil. Like Devil incarnate. They are not doing a fine job and need to get their act together and freaking address the community and have a bigger presence.

They used to have a LARGE presence the first year of the game, then they went to monthly updates instead of weekly and it was all downhill from there.

This is poor management and unfortunately it reflects on the company, especially when the developers are quiet about all the issues going on.

Developers are part of Rare, Rare owns Sea of Theieves, Sea of Thieves is riddled with bugs and issues. Yeah they are all responsible.

    Thank you :)

    You are welcome.

  • yes they are silencing people now they silenced me bc I said the same thing along with a other person.

  • Sigh.. feel sorry for Rare. This is not a thread for discussion anymore. Rants and accusations.

Good luck with your endeavors going forward, hope you will feel heard eventually.

  • Honestly. And considering Rare is owned by Microsoft there are really no excuses.

Like there's no shame in asking for help if they need it; and seeing how Rare has one of the best software companies (in history) as a resource, I would imagine Rare could make SoT play like magic.

  • @ippoc

Rants, oh yeah I'm definitely ranting. Accusations?? No. This game as it receives more and more updates becomes more and more broken. If they can't guarantee the quality of the game when releasing an update then they shouldn't do it.

They have also been quiet about the whole state of the game for over a year now. Covid aside they could still reach out and do some Q/A's. If they are having problems developing content because of the remote from home, I'd understand that, but there are no issues for them putting up a Q/A in the forums or even on a stream, or even just developer video where they answers some questions from the community.

Let us KNOW why things are the way they are. Why they made the decision to stick with making updates while ignoring the bugs.

"We are still continuing our efforts to fix hit registration and the rest of the bugs" - Does not seem like it. How can they say something like that when bugs literally come to stay in Sea of Thieves??

Other games the bugs and glitches get taken care of, this game, its like its part of the game's world building mechanic at this point.

The game was more polished in beta and release then it is now, how is that even possible?? I used to defend Rare "give them time, they are trying to figure stuff out and when they do, they fix it. Everything takes time." - This was when I believed it would take maybe 2 or maybe 3 months maximum to fix, NOT YEARS.

The chainshot sail glitch has been around for 4 months now?? Its been around since Emissary launch.........that was a year ago.

The food eating glitch has been around since around they time they first added weapon swap delay. Then they fixed it a little but it seems now its back.

If the issue is that there is TOO much on the server than freaking remove it.

We don't need roaming skelly ships, we have skelly ship raids. They can leave the spawning skelly ships if they want, but remove the roaming ones. We don't need massive amounts of loot in the water with barrels, do the barrels like before. Have them loaded in like a sunken ship, like how it used to be. We don't need roaming spawn barrels that will spawn in and out depending on ship location.

Whatever the issue is, they aren't sharing, whatever direction they are going they aren't sharing. Rare has basically been completely non-existent when they could have just been more available during covid lock down. They did neither of these things instead just kept releasing broken updates.

We don't need rowboats to stick around forever when not in use.

  • @xultanis-dragon

You guys legitimately just create more and more content while creating more and more bugs.

"You guys legitimately just create more and more cosmetics while creating more and more bugs."

FTFY because "content" is not really the correct word for what we have been receiving for the past half year or so.

And yes, joke aside, I agree that Rare have been way too silent for way too long. Lately I even wonder if they haven't abanadoned SoT for good.

  • It's a sandbox game... with no real progression. Minecraft is sandbox game too, but it has progression... So it's really hard to keep a game like this enjoyable in the long run by the game devs itself...
New players think it's amazing because it's a game like none other. I was amazed; i had fun when it launched and we had barely content... but because of it, i took brakes. It was just still water... with grinding.. grinding for what? Nothing. I don't use the stuff i grind for in 90% of the time.
Grinding just makes sure the game always has players who wish to grind... so someone who has no interest in it still can find others to interact with. Like, someone just want to pvp... or.. wants to hop on open crews and teach newbie pirates... or make alliances on the seas... or help with tall tales...
The game's fun is in the hand of the players mostly. And that's not good. The game has problems too that doesn't serve a certain type of players. Mostly pvp but affects pve as well.
I usually log in to take screenshots for hours... I'm sort of a fashion pirate; I grind for clothing then take pictures avoiding like 95% of player interaction. That's it. Of course i won't stumble upon major bugs or flaws in that way.
But I'm tired... I stopped grinding... I don't care anymore. But i'll still have my own fun with this game. You can still have some if you are creative enough... like those at ancient isle university... or other content creators that wouldn't play the game as most of us. It's fun, but it can be as fun as a fidget spinner on it's own. And it just stops being a real game at that point... it will be just an interactive virtual world.. More than VRChat but less than Minecraft.
Players who doesn't want to grind still trying to squeeze some fun from the game... Arena was intended as another way... but it became bad in time then players started to TDM to still have some fun... but it created complains plus hitreg is broken so they can't be pleased as well... Players become frustrated with the problems and this leads to griefing in arena and adventure too... but adventure also has the stressful grinding... These things create chain-reactions which ends up in toxicity... and will suffocate the game if things remain the same.
The only thing that keeps me coming back is that i miss being spawncamped... just kidding I usually come back to experience the new things... I love the tall tales and new stuff/story to puzzle out... but at that point the game should be just a single-player or 4-player co-op game, right? And 90% against it because they want to believe™... that the game can be the ultimate pirate experience (plus ultra™).... if it succeeds or fails to do that, you decide, as for me... well... i'm a horrible pirate anyway.
Don't get me wrong... I like the game, it still serves me and I'm not doing (and have never really done) any intended piracy but I understand the people who does or would like to do and then face these problems and feel cheated in certain ways (waves)...
So what's the fix? Make Sea of Thieves a Battle Royale game... obviously! UwU jk
Should Rare abandon SoT to focus on their other projects, custom servers will be the way to go...

  • @xultanis-dragon
Sounds a lot like the fate of Anthem and other games, doesn't it? This is how games die:

    1. DEVS worry about Content over core game issues to keep players money coming in. (Not realizing that this is just the beginning of the end of the game.)

    2. Don't listen to the gamers. Hence, the players get tired of the state of the game, and leave for a better one.

    Every time.

  • @xultanis-dragon every game has bugs or glitches like call of duty black ops cold war that game is so buggy they still have bugs that have not been fixed since release and those bugs are super easy to fix yet super noticeable.

  • Absolutely agree, old sword was very balanced and needed skill, now its a complete mess

  • @xultanis-dragon

Is this some kind of horrible and childish way to get rid of PvP players?? Do you intentionally leave your game in this garbage state because you want your players to leave??

    I don't know.

The community uses your name as an insult. AS AN INSULT TO THE GAME. How can you for the life of me allow this to go on??

    I'm not sure, I'm not a developer.

How can a game that as it gets OLDER gets more and more bugs and glitches??

    I honestly have no idea.

  • This absolutely hands down sums up the issues rare needs to address.

  • @burnbacon then why are these issues on a mass scale it's not just a handful of people on mcdonald's wifi. It's people with good pong to the server the servers are the issues and need to be fixed

And I see you post on alot of topics like this always saying something along the lines like you have no issues. The chances of you playing the game as a hardcore player is very low most casual users won't notice the issues because they spend almost no time using every mechanic in the game.

  • @ste4lthles said in Rare - Fix your game for the love of god:

Absolutely agree, old sword was very balanced and needed skill, now its a complete mess

It was actually an exploitable mess.

When it comes to adjusting the sword, I do believe that they made numerous changes that weren't really all that necessary, but they largely fixed a lot of it and brought back the sword mechanics close to where they were without a lot of the cancelling exploits this time around, which IMO, has made it better overall.

Not really. I've been looking at old videos for the sword. Even though the wide spread knowledge of some of the sword animation cancel came much much later in the game, I think after their attempt to fix double gunning?? Which was about a year after release?? I could be wrong on the time frame and I feel like I am but point is that the wide spread use of it wasn't around in the early stance.

However, let me mention how sword really worked even WITH the exploits like making sure to aim slightly lower towards the ground to get hit regs on the environment so you don't "miss", even if that was TRUE, you could still block, and the sword combat was cleaner even WITH the cancels and the hit regs exploits.

Actually now that I think about it, the animation cancel wasn't an issue until they tried to buff sword with the speed buff allowing players to move and swing at the same time.

Yeah actually I remember, even before with how the sword worked the exploitation couldn't really be taken advantage of because of how the sword played. Swinging the sword gave the player a huge speed debuff, which might sound horrible but it worked really well because we didn't have hippity hoppity all over the place. Also the swords sword worked amazingly, so if you caught 3 people with a sword swing, they couldn't just turn around and sword tornado you, you could block from multiple angles if you were good enough or good at dodging to get through them.

Now the infinite sword lunge was a problem but that was easy enough to deal with once you realized how to beat it.

Trust me broski, if you haven't yet, try to find the videos from like 3 years ago on youtube. God brings back soooooo many memories.

Barrel 1.0, KEGS ON SHIPS, players ramming to board lol. Not to mention how responsive the combat was and how much better the sword was.

I made a list of the things that the game does not that it didn't do before and I believe more and more that Rare just kept adding things to the servers without optimizing everything which could be the main reason for a lot of these issues.

Sometimes adding more isn't always the answer and well Rare just kept throwing things into he game.

Skelly Captain on every island. Multiple row boats, items left on islands, items on players boats. Skelly ships, Devils Roar and Volcanoes, multiple barrel spawns for every ship on the server instead of just barrels that spawned like sunken ships.

But yeah, check and try to find those videos, when I watch them I remember what it felt like to play the game back in those days and honestly, I miss it a whole lot and had a LOT more fun back in those days then I do now. The more videos I watch the more I realize that I think I play this game in hopes that I will end up having as much fun as I used to. Well who knows, WATCH THE VIDS lol. Hope you see what I see and remember what I remember, but who knows.

Um, what? You've always been able to move while swinging the sword. I know this because even before the speed boost was given to the sword, I was beating everyone at the sword game with my running sword slash while everyone else was too busy getting stun-locked by their own inept charges (and that's still a valid strategy even today, though it's admittedly less effective).

You missed where I said that you had a speed debuff before, that was inline with that comment.

However, it still stands, you could move while swinging but it was no where near as fast as it was. I even remember the update when they did it, the movement was SO much faster compared to before.

Watch the video I linked, the characters are moving at full speed while swinging the sword, see how much slower it is compared to what it is now?? Dodging/Side stepping used a huge part of the combat because it gave you that boost of speed to get out of range. Players who swung like mad men lost to good players, now however you get a boat of sword tornados and its a mess.

The first speed buff was introduced the very first time they tried to fix double gunning. Again the stat of the games combat REVOLVES around them trying to balance around double gunning. They need to just make sword mandatory already. I understand players used double gun load outs but letting players have that option has crippled Rare's ability to even change the combat besides trying to nerf and buff around it.

Also, this thread was about the glitching and how horrible it is.

A month or longer ago, I had a teammate leave by turning off their xbox. I got kicked off server like 2 minutes after. I got back into session which was great. What screwed me was after an hour after my friend left, I asked if anyone else wanted to get on because I found an athena and GH allianced. No one could join. Game kept saying my session was full. My friend had already left an hour prior and even after 2 hours still nothing.

Best part was the server crashed after I finally sank both ships. BEST GAME EVER!!! - I think it was a server crash or at least on my end, I can't figure out what beard it was. The server kicked me and when I tried to get back it wouldn't let me rejoin sess.

There is just too much in the game. Game was so much more polished before.

SIDE NOTE Too clarify, the animation cancel where you redraw sword after the second swing so that you don't have that delay after the 3rd hit wasn't really a thing until they added the speed buff to swords because even before then it didn't really help since you could block and swing after blocking or even side stepping and you could do this because again, speed debuff while using sword.

  • @galactic-geek it is soo much worse, a pure mess. You can't use it without backtracking or hitting/getting hut through combos and stuned

  • @xultanis-dragon I don't think I have ever seen a sword fight quite like that, even back in the day. They're largely just standing still and blocking - barely moving. Even back in the day, there was running, bunny-hopping, and charge-cancelling. This is not representative of what actually happens in most fights, then and now.

That said, I did love hearing the "ting" sound effect of the blocked sword - I honestly don't hear that enough anymore.

  • @burnbacon absolutely not

Oh yeah I agree the video really doesn't show case it very well but there really wasn't any bunny hopping with swords back in the day. Players did JUMP to try and hit over the block but you couldn't jump OVER the play and get behind them, you lost all your forward momentum when you swung the sword.

The video does show case what happens to players DURING a sword combat moment though. It wasn't about jumping around like monkeys, players pulled out their swords and had en-garde moments. That was what sword combat was all about. It was cleaner and players stayed on the ground most of the time.

In sword combat you got a SERIOUS speed debuff. All your forward momentum is removed, you can still move but it was more or less at half speed.

Numbers used are completely made up for example sake :

Regular running speed is 100. Sprint increases that to 125.

Current sword mechanics you keep the full speed at 100 even while sword swiping.

Original Sword mechanics your speed is drops to 50 while swinging the sword.

Not to mention all the forward moment is gone.

So bunny hopping with the sword wasn't really a thing back in the day. You could do it but there wasn't enough speed or moment to even jump over a player. Players would jump in place to hit over blocks but not anywhere near what it is now.

With the speed debuff sword combat was more about finesse and strategy. The skill gap in swords was a lot higher back in the day. A good player with a sword could take out a team of 10 easily even if they tried to sword spam. Blocking, landing hits, spacing, side stepping.

Now however if players know how to track you or have a wide FOV you aren't getting away, even IF you are able to block a few hits, doesn't matter because you can't get out.

Swords used to be a beautiful match up of mind games and feints and talent. If you did it right you could kill everyone without getting hit. It was cleaner, maybe clunky at times because of the speed debuff, but it was smoother in a way because it forced players to have to SWORD combat, not bunny hop like crazy.

They need to make sword mandatory and just change player combat mechanics back to launch. They could rebalance the guns to give them their niches finally. Pistol could finally be the mid range weapon, blunder the close range, and sniper could be the long range. Right now its, sniper is the close, mid, long range. They could also fix sword to remove any exploits like the infinite sword lunge or whatever.

I mean they keep saying "Oh hit reg is an issue during high stress situations of combat" well how about slowing it down and adding some skill back into it??

Right now its a bunny hopping monkey feces flinging mess. Watch more videos broski, I think you are mixing up what you remember with the feeling. I think you felt like you had more control and the combat was "quicker" back in the day because you probably felt like a power house with the sword killing sword swipping noobs that never blocked, but the feeling is probably changing what you remember to make sense of it.
