I just want to play with all of my friends. let us join with more ships or add more space to the galleon.
play with more than 4 players
This would cause a severe imbalance to the game. Allowing players to flood servers with multiple ships in order to form organized fleets would give them a severe advantage over other ships on the server. The same goes for a galleon. You have to understand that these ships are specifically designed for their maximum player count. Therefore adding any more players to those ships would give them an unfair advantage.
Hopefully one day Rare will be able to increase the amount of ships per server and add in a larger ship type that holds more players. Until then, I'm confident we won't see an increase players per ship.
There are ways to balance the game for it. Regardless, we can already accomplish what the OP wants simply by playing the numbers game. I can already get two ships into the same map inside 20 min.
@swimplatypus7 Of course there are ways to balance the game for it but the current system works just fine as it is. I understand wanting to play with more friends and I'd love to do that myself but only if they add larger ships that were designed from the ground up to house that many players. They shouldn't restructure current mechanics in order to add one or two more people to the galleon.
As for getting more people onto the server, yes of course that's possible as well. Most people who have been playing for a while now can do exactly or at least know how to do exactly what you're talking about. That's not the point though. Right now it's an effort that players have to put forth in order to get more ships onto the same server, as minimal as it is it's a effort none the less.
Agreed, I was thinking more simply along the lines of simply being able to pre - form alliances.
A larger ship would be great too, but you're right about adding to the galleon because it like the sloop is well designed and balanced.
People already trade for spots on other people's ships to bring friends onto the same server
I've been lucky and ended up on the same server as some friends of mine once also
It's not any more imbalanced than forming an alliance using every ship on the server
Also they said way back at one of the convention interviews that they were looking into ways to log friends onto the same server as you on a different shipI also need to make my voice heard. I play with a regular crew of 4. Every Sunday night, and sometimes other days in the week when we can sort our lives out (we're all working Dads) we get together and sail a galleon. These days though, we've got several more guys who want to sail with us - and we can't do it.
I know it's possible to travel the seas and find a pirate willing to give up their ship, but they seem to be few and far between these days. I understand the logic behind this decision in the context of when it was made - long before the game was live, and Rare were busily figuring out how best to matchmake and populate servers - but the situation now is, I think, different to what they anticipated then.
I think it should work like this: let a bunch of people (limit it to say 10 or 12 - make it half a server, for the sake of argument) join a lobby together. Let them then form crews. We'd like to sail with 6 regularly - give us the option of a galleon and a brigantine, or 2 brigantines, or 3 sloops. Limit the ships we can have by all means - but give us some choice. Then spawn us in. Drop us at different outposts if that's easiest, but default us into an alliance. Let us form up, and do what we want to do.
At the moment, the game actively prevents us from playing together - and the change above is pretty much the only thing I think Sea of Thieves really needs. Additional content is all well and good - but this removes a big barrier for some of us.
Cheers all!
Cap'n Pharoah - Pioneer/Founder/Pirate LegendI'm in the same boat (haha pun).
Got a whole discord with lots of friends and other folks I like to sail with. whenever more then 4 people are online it's almost depressing to have to form a second group because while we can play at the same time we can't play together.
I'd love to see a way for me to play with more than 3 friends, a bigger ship, increased crew sizes or maybe even being able to double queue up.
While I think that some people might abuse the power of having more people (like 2 ships on a server) I myself honestly think that this will rarely be abused since you won't go to the same islands all the time, and co-ordinating 2 ships is hard (Ive crashed into a sister vessel during a chase quite a few times because 8 people communicating at the same time is kind of confusing)
Thoughts:
- We need a bigger boat (and Rare knows we want this but how what and when is up to them).
- More people per boat? This might throw the balance off. Maybe move the Galleon up to 5 people and have a new ship be the 4 person vessel.
- More ships per server for a group of players. This could give possible abuse of power in a server. You could have the ship be in a default alliance with a different coloured pennant to show others that these guys have friends with them.
@hynieth I can see the point but - matchmaking is currently based on 16 people, so a bigger ship means fewer ships per server. Then, there's the effort to actually build the model for a new ship, and the changes to the world to accommodate it if it's considerably larger. Introducing a larger ship type sounds like a LOT of work in comparison to my suggestion above.
I'd be happy if my suggestion was a half way house and bigger ships eventually came in too though! I just want to be able to play with all the people I know who want to play.

I'm not sure that is true, as I'm pretty certain I have seen 4 Galleons on a server plus another two ships and I know for a fact that a server with 3 Galleons happens which would mean that even if the other 3 ships were sloops then there would be a server of 18 players.
@octopus-lime OK, I may have the number of people incorrect - but the bigger ship meaning fewer ships per server point still stands.
I think the best course of action would be to have it favor putting you on a server with people in your friends list. So even if you are not playing together you can cross paths. I think this would be really fun. I also have a group of 5+ that play regularly, so we end up playing Overwatch every Tuesday (our game night) even though we would rather be pirating. It’s a shame that the fear of imbalance hinders us from playing this fun game.
Another idea would be to have some system that tracks if you are attacking others and starts putting those people on the same server if it seems that is their primary type of play.
How about if you can get a group of 16 friends together, you get your own server.
The problem is with ballence, right? You don't really want to be playing solo on a sloop, only to have 3 galleons sail up and blow your ship to pieces. But if everyone on the server was up for the same experience, go for it!
@heraclivs I'm against more players on the current ships, also I'm against bigger ships with more players...because it would be unbalanced against smaller ships like sloop
But the idea to join in a second ship to the same server...why not...it already happens, but in a more complicated way...even when you can join friends in the server, there won't be just you and your friends there, because when you start the game there are already ships there...if you got unlucky there are already 5 other ships so you have to search again or wait until someone leaves...I agree that this would be awesome, however I do see issues arising from an unbeatable armada. I personally solo sloop every time and just like it that way. At he end of each play session I sail directly at the closest ship I see and offer my stocked ship to them. 1/10 times they get what I am offering and jump at the chance but more often than not I get sunk while waving as I log off. It would be AMAZING to hop on discord and match make with other solo sloops and align as we log in!
