Starting Locations

    Sometimes when I'm getting in I have a plan for what I want to do. Maybe I want to fish for a certain species, or buy something that is restricted to a region, or maybe sail a Devils Athena mission, only to find I spawn on the other side of the world, sigh.

    Then its the choice, do I spend 20 mins sailing (at risk of being derailed by aggressive players) to get to where I want to start? or do I go thru the long loading screens repeatedly hopping 'til I find the starting location I'm looking for, hopefully in less time thant it would take to sail there?

    I'd love it if I could chose my starting region, I get why its randomized due to Rare having a design for how long it should take before coming across another crew. I'd be perfectly happy with the ability to queue up and wait. It'd beat multiple hops. I'd be ok with choosing a region and having say a 5 minute wait, maybe with a mini game like fishing or something to pass the time, in order to spawn where I want.

    You could try scuttling your ship; it's less waiting than starting fresh.

    Yea thanks, forgot to mention that, I've tried it, it doesnt seem to work out all that well, due to the mechanic that some crews exploit to spawn closer to contested forts when sunk, Scuttling doesnt usually take you out of the region like being sunk does. Which makes it less than really useful when I start on Golden sands looking to do a devil athenas

    It's more reward there, so doing more (including getting there) to deserve it, fits.

    Besides you need plenty of supplies, what better way to get those is all those barrels'o' plenty you get in that 20 minutes instead of those between Ancient Spire and the Devil's Roar :)

    I'm pretty economical with my supplies. I'd be fine. Also that's just one example, lets say I wanted to start a particular tall tale, or fish a particular species, or for example buy an admirals cosmetic item but spawn in galleons grave?

    Nah, as much as I like empty miles on my athenas and such let me choose where to start I dont mind waiting.

    one thing that would help would be to leave game and bring you back to the Adventure/Arena screen rather than the Title. Then you could hope back in the loading faster than having to load up the menu before the long loading screen.

    Yea I just think having the option to wait would be even better. I get to start where I want, those who dont care or when I dont wont have to wait, and those who want to wait arent messing with the matchmaking by serverhopping.

    This would be a nice feature. So long as the game didn't let spawn you too close to another player already in the world, or (obviously) at the same outpost as a player. In this way, I suppose it could be used to get an idea of where other players are already located .
