Kraken

@xxtrigghappy6xx I assume you are on a sloop because you said “my buddy and I” so here are some tips (fighting the kraken on a sloop is easy once you know how to do it):

• Always have one person below deck repairing. They recently patched the bug where the Kraken tentacles would pull a player through the interior of a ship into their mouth. With this bug now patched, you can basically keep a sloop going in a Kraken encounter forever. Either you or your buddy should stay below deck at all times during the encounter, repairing and bucketing, to keep your ship afloat.
• Stop your ship from moving. As counter intuitive as it might seem to stop your ship from moving, it actually increases your chance of survival. When your ship is moving, it becomes harder to hit things like tentacles consistently since they are constantly moving away from you. Whenever you are surrounded by a Kraken, raise your sails then proceed to fight it.
• Focus one tentacle at a time. You only need to take out three tentacles, on a sloop, in order to defeat the Kraken. When you are fighting tentacles, always focus the closest one and fire at it with cannon balls until it recedes back into the water.

If you use some of these simple tips you should have no problems with Krakens. Remember practice makes perfect.

@xxtrigghappy6xx The kraken is easily avoidable since he cannot spawn while a cloud event is active. That also means that in the short time between clouds, the kraken is almost guaranteed to spawn, which actually delays the next cloud. Keep an eye on the sky and whenever you're about to set sail, make sure a skull cloud or ship cloud is up. If they are, the kraken won't attack.

If the kraken does spawn you need to know its three attacks and what to do when it happens. If it's trying to suck up someone off your ship, you need to immediately run below deck. It shouldn't be able to pick you up if you are below deck.

If it wraps up your ship, ignore the tentacle wrapped around your ship and instead use the cannons to shoot the head of that very same tentacle that appears very close to your ship on each side. One or two hits to the head with the cannons will cause it to dive back into the water and appear on the opposite side. Just play a game of whack-a-mole with the head using the cannons. Occasionally after taking some damage, instead of appearing next to the ship, the head will actually grab your ship, usually near the bow. If the head takes enough damage, the rest of the tentacle will let go.

When it slaps your ship, just repair the holes. Not really much to that one.

If you are playing solo on a sloop, it only takes defeating two tentacles to end the battle. With the knowledge of how to fight it, it's incredibly easy and provides fast and easy loot. Sometimes a tentacle can actually drop two pieces of treasure and they can be stronghold pieces. I've noticed with a second crewmate, it can take defeating three tentacles before it runs. That's not much of a difficulty increase considering you have another crew member.

If you just don't want to fight it, keep your sails down and anchor up and wait below deck to avoid it pulling you off your ship, and to repair holes if it slaps your ship. If it doesn't bother to wrap up your ship, you can just wait until you sail out of the ink. If it does wrap up your ship, use the cannons against the head like I said before. If you can't get to the cannons, use your guns from the side windows. It will take longer but you'll still be able to bucket water in between shots keeping your ship afloat.

Just make sure they are up to date since the kraken has gone through changes in the past that changed the way you have to fight it. With the knowledge of what to do and a calm demeanor, you will be defeating the kraken every time. I actively hunt the kraken knowing I can possibly get fast and easy stronghold pieces from it.
