Ill-fated Outpost Campers

  • Okay, so I just fended off a two-person sloop crew. Really simple from that perspective, but the situation makes things interesting. I was in the middle of selling off chests from my last Gold Hoarders voyage when I saw another ship sail in. They immediately haulted and fired off at least fifteen shots into my ship as well as fired off with a pistol or sniper rifle. Now, I had managed to nearly beach myself upon arriving at the outpost (Sanctuary) and that was thanks to my neglect of attention towards how fast my sloop was going (y’know, when you’re with the wind it’s harder to raise sails).
If it weren’t for being beached, o would’ve sank immediately. I managed to turn my ship and have it sail straight out of the pocket I was in. For the next five minutes or so I was strictly bucketing out water whilst being chased. Getting to board up a hole every ten or so buckets, I finally managed to stabilize the situation and break off. It was a really close call, especially considering the loot I hadn’t sold yet. The whole thing has me wondering, though - why do people feel that their best bets for loot is to camp outposts? I had spotted the other ship previously but thought nothing of it, and so after the whole charade, I passed by the outpost again just to see their ship in the exact same spot it was before, anchored and waiting for someone.

  • @personalc0ffee I agree! I don’t see how waiting for what can be an eternity just for someone else’s payload can be any bit positive towards your own personal progression. This is the first time I’ve had to deal with such in a firsthand way, so I guess I should start being a bit more careful with my actions.

  • @will4331
I have only seen one outpost camper the entire time i have played. And we sunk them for it.
I will never understand outpost camping. Seems soooooooo boring

  • @personalc0ffee i camped once and it was funny. i put gunpowder in the skull hut in and behind it and the guy looked in and ran i blew it up after didn't rob him though

  • @personalc0ffee 20 min a guy spawnd in only reason i did it was because i got sunk so i grabbed like 5 gun powders and waited

  • @personalc0ffee said in Ill-fated Outpost Campers:

Outpost and camping in general is a valid strat, but to me it is one of the lowest of the low tactics. In this particular game it is also a giant waste of one's time.

    1. Always be on the lookout for ships, watch those ships, and anticipate where they might be 5-7 min from the time you checked. If they are getting closer, they might be coming for you, some even take a more roundabout way of doing it. Like they'll pretend to do something and slowly creep closer.

    2. Don't be afraid to stash and dash and come back later, hours later if you have to or just cancel the quest and eat the loss and go to another biome and quest there.

    3. If you see a mermaid, don't stop unless you take the assumed risk. There's someone there, just sail on and don't sail right passed it either sail further out so they can't keg or board you as easily. Let the sharks have 'em.

    4. As for starting at an outpost and you're getting camped, not much you can do but Scuttle or let them sink you. You literally have like nothing so they are wasting their time and they knew you just spawned in. People that attack and hunt you when they know there is nothing to be gained for either side, are the s**m of this game.

Thank you for the guidelines. I’ve trained myself well in following most of those steps for the most part, but I fear that my accident in the beginning threw me off focus. I usually sail with some of my friends, so to go alone is something I’ve not often done. On the bright side, I just finally cashed in what would’ve been lost + some extra at the next nearest outpost and it appears someone left a chest as a good deed!

  • Thats funny. I camp outpost when im about to log off. I at leadt scuttle so i dont spawn next to outpost again. Thats just blatant camping leaving your ship though.

  • Cool story, bro. Sounds more like they were simply going to the outpost to turn in their loot though.

  • @rk1-turbulence I’d say that were the case in other circumstances. However, the way they had their ship ready to slide in was a red flag. Besides that, they didn’t stay at the outpost. They chased me for a couple minutes before going back to waiting at the little hiding spot behind a rock in nearby waters

  • Sometimes, it’s just folks finishing up in the shops - other times, it’s campers. If I see mermaids at an outpost, I lower the sails again and wave as I pass.

  • I don't do it but there's no need for a long paragraph to explain why: It's just an easy catch.

Hell sometimes I sail around the Island to wait for them to set sail, I don't like fighting unprepared pirates.

  • @wizensquire1113 it was a matter of me already being there and them then afterwards leaving their hiding spot, sailing to me, and firing, which is a bit off from the usual kind of camping outposts

  • @personalc0ffee Fort hopping is actually fun.

  • @will4331 new name for outposts CAMP SITE..warning this camp site has campers with tents and a lot of bananas
