I was reading on the Hungering Deep (here) , and I saw something about the limited time campaign, is that something we sign up for on the website, or do we just follow what the game says on the 29th?
Hungering Deep Campaign
@carl2468 Judging from what is being written here, you'll have to follow the hints and clues that Merrick gives you. In essence: yeah, just log on and follow what the game says.
Specifically:
"Coming May 29th, follow the trail of riddles and rumours to piece together what happened to 'Merry' Merrick, the proud owner of a pair of matching peg legs."@ilydaris I would assume that it lasts until the next expansion comes out, because there are two large expansions slated for this summer.
So like early July maybe?
@that-vegan-guy I assumed longer than that, unless it be a short expansion. Just o'er a month is not really that long, especially during the summer when people can be on vacation an' such.
I was thinking each 'limited time' piece of content might be 3 months minimum.
@awesomecoreusa I could see that.
I just don't see them running a couple different events from the different expansions at a time.
I could be totally wrong tho.
@that-vegan-guy Aye, I did wonder 'bout that. But then, Cursed Sails might no be a limited event, could be a permanent expansion to content.
T'would be a good way to go actually, smaller limited time releases slotted in between larger permanent content boosts. Keeps the content comin' an keeps us busy :) I just hope it is available for enough time that all who want to experience it can do so wit'out feeling they have to compromise on other commitments.
@That-Vegan-Guy @AwesomecoreUSA Thanks for your replies. I was worried, that it could be the first of the weekly events. 😉
And I think, they said in the Inn Side Story, that some content is permanent and just the campaign temporary.
@ilydaris If it is giving out limited time cosmetics a week seems far too short. Imagine being on holiday, or on the road for work or some-such an' ye miss an event wit' some cool limited time cosmetics that ye wanted.
An' average user plays... what maybe a couple o' nights a week for a few hours an' then a longer session on the weekend if time allows? Seem reasonable? So say... 10-12 hours as an average? I just be pulling numbers, I have no actual basis for this.
Now, factor in time spent gettin' quests, preparing ship, time wasted against the wind, time running from other pirates... yer amount o' time to actually complete a weekly quest goes way down way quick.
I hope weekly events are no' for cosmetics. E'en though I play a lot more than I would think most (again, just guessin') an could probably get them. It just no be fair to many players an' I think constantly missing out would be annoying.
@awesomecoreusa I don't mean to be argumentative, but I really like the idea of weekly events offering cosmetics that not everyone has or can get.
I like the idea that my pirate could be a little more unique. Or even seeing someone roll up and being like oh wow that's awesome and really rare.
Kind of the way pirate legend gear was for a little bit (or still is to some extent).
I however don't foresee rare having the time to design entirely new cosmetics each week, so I have a feeling that if there are cosmetic rewards that they will be on some kind of rotation and will come around again.
@that-vegan-guy Not argumentative when ye make make a counter point an' explain yer reasoning. I'd call that a discussion, which is what the forums should be an' not just people saying 'no. you're idea is dumb' :) Happens far too often.
I can see yer point though, I would just hate to miss out on some cool piece o' gear because I was on vacation or at a conference or something. I know I will be going to Scotland to see my parents over Christmas and I'll be gone 2 weeks, if I missed an awesome piece of Christmas gear, e'ev like a Santa hat, I would be bummed about it.
That said, aye it makes it more meaningful if not e'eryone can have all the same items.
To answer yer other point, I could see a lot o' reusing existing cosmetics and doing a re-skin for weekly events, like how the Day One Patch an' Black Dog Patch be the same thing (1 vs X) or the Mercenary an Black Dog outfits being pallet swaps. As long as they no be doin' the same item e'ery time, they might get away with it without people calling foul of just colour swaps.
@awesomecoreusa I agree on all counts across the board.
I feel they probably will steer clear of color swaps for a while if they learned their lesson from the items that they ended up taking out.
Which side note, I still think it was silly to take them out completely.

Does anyone have any idea how long the campaign might be available?
I think they talked about weekly events.. perhaps it will last one week.
My goodness, I think I've said this at least a dozen times by now.
The Shark Hunter cosmetics and Meg are permanent. The Shark Hunter set will be sold at the shipwright, while the Meg will become a persistent world threat, like the Kraken 2.0.

@blam320 Thanks! And how long does the Merrick campaign run?
Weekly events are starting soon, so maybe another week. We'd be lucky if we got a third week out of the campaign.
