Seperate regions

  • I would want to suggest to keep USA and Europe apart from one another instead of mixing them, or make it some kind of selection so i'm not forced to play with them.

I seriously have issues playing with 150+ MS when stuff is lagging so bad that bullets stop registering , getting shot while already hidden behind a rock or whatever.
Playing alone it's sitting between 40-80ms on my 400Mbit wired connection which is barely " Acceptable ".

There's a lot of times where i see a sloop or gally coming in with americans and the ping just flies up to 250-300 ( westcoast and 150-200 Eastcoast ) making the game completely unplayable for me.
The usual replies are : just make a new lobby... That does not solve the problem that americans can join the server and start messing up the ping again, even if we don't engage in combat.
or : Get used to it ... Most online games solve this with regions, and in 95% of the games i have a latency of less than 40ms.

  • Well this is a new one. No cross contintent play?

  • While over never encountered this on a game breaking level. I do usually play on a wifi xbox x or hardwired PC. The only solution I can think of is to build your boat first and try to recruit people. If you are solo it should place you in a localized server.

Sorry man about your luck. Hopefully they figure out something for ping related issues.

  • @personalc0ffee does the player mix dictate the server though?

Example I have a boat of 4 east us players we end up on an east coast server.

Mix it up and depends on the host that's chosen from your crew?

  • Living in Norway on a fiber connection here

Never had issues with latency when interacting with people from another continent, are you sure your ISP is providing you with a good enough ping? Speed has nothing to say when it comes to latency really..

I for one do not want seperate regions, some mobas seem to do this, and honestly I'd prefer playing with the rest of western europe instead of being locked to reading nothing but baltic in chat, no offence to my eastern european friends ;)

  • @ravadosh
Even if you have a Terabit internet connection, connecting from Europe to US-EAST you will still have 140ms latency on average, that's how internet works over distance....
Please, stop shoving the problem towards me or my ISP.
    Speedtest is on 6ms.

Regions as in USA - Europe - Asia like pretty much everywhere else is what i'm aiming at.
Crossplay is not a thing that bothers me at all, even tho alot of players sit on an attic with an xbox connected on a heavy interfered wifi which could cause the same issues.

Even if i make a lobby with 4 friends from the same country there's moments where we run into other players and the ping shoots up to unplayable.
I'm not saying this is every player, or it happens 24/7... It just happens alot.

Wow... sorry for offending you there, just tried to help and see, but ok fine, I'll stop trying to help out..

I'll just point out straight my opinion then.. don't seperate it, period.

  • @ravadosh
You're not offending me at all here so no worries there, sorry if i made it sound like you did, that was unintentional.
The first thing i did and try was to eliminate the problem from within my own network and that did nothing to improve the situation at all, and i used to work at my ISP.

After talking with a few players in-game to ask where they are from etc i realised the game mixes up people from all over the world, as said before even with Australians... That specifically tells me where the problem is.

The game , or in this case most likely the XB Live service picks a server " In the middle " so people would have an equal ping overall and i would say that is the main problem.

  • I hope this is just a troll topic in response to the constant Xbox only and PVE only server requests and you aren't serious about region locked servers...

Meeting people from all over the world is a big part of Sea of Thieves.

Wait what?? Where do i say anything regarding PvP or PvE or PC/Xbox? Did you read the post at all?
I'm talking about latency issues the game has, which could be solved by seperating the regions.
Sure i would love to see the whole world being able to connect to one another and still have 6ms latency, unfortunately that's not how things are... Connecting over long distances results in high latency, and this is a fact.

Here is to show you what latency does over distance, measured from the Netherlands ( My location )

  • @gekkeloko

I've taken a bit of distance here and was probably a bit too emotionally invested in the topic.

But yesterday I have - for an hour or 2 - played with a ping of 340, yes there was rubberbanding, but it was definately not gamebreaking.

If this game had a more competitive side like counter strike or a moba, I'd be with you for seperating regions.
But from my experience of yesterday with my pings fluctuating between 70 and 340 depending on the encounter or crew I hung with, I really feel that people are exaggerating a little bit..

  • Thing is , when doing voyages i don't mind as much... But when we're competing for a fort and my bullets shoot with delay/ hits not registering and players rubberbanding all over the place it just becomes extremely frustrating.
