Opposing players not able to see your mermaid.

  • one thing I'd really like to see, is being able to be more stealth when hiding on an island and your mermaid is not visible for opposing players to see.

  • Players need some indication of the presence of other players so the mermaid works perfectly.

Lets not give safe zone advocates any merit.

  • There should not be mermaids if people are on the island, but as soon as players go out to the shore, the mermaid should appear

  • I agree with @PersonalC0ffee @Gloog @A-Trusty-Mango here!
One of the only ways for a sloop especially to ensure that an Outpost or new island is safe for a spell.

It's bad enough that they are making the name plates disappear in water soon!

  • @r4p1dxhunter go camp in cod.

Why? That just makes it easier for folk to camp the Outpost!
A mermaid is there to tell the player that they have been abandoned and to let other folk know that there is someone around. They already made it hard enough to spot as only the mermaid's "owner" can see the flare.

    That's a good change for everybody!:p

  • @sshteeve Yeah, I agree but there should be a marooning system at least

  • @drewbob7 being abandoned though could be used for griefing more than the brig currently is! Oh how hilarious those 10 year old kids would find it leaving you behind on the island and laughing all the way home!

@Gloog fair point in your link and a good argument, but I think it will make it harder for a lot of folk. The only way that change is fair is if they make it so that someone sleeping, sitting or in another 3rd person animation/emote can be seen as well.

  • @sshteeve true that

  • This would be a good idea. It's the same concept as making the gamertag go stealth when underwater. And it's not like we see something popping up by an island to let us know a ship is on the other side. You just figure it out when you get there.

We shouldn't have a mermaid to let us know when someone is on the island, it will make us be on look out more and force us to use different strategies while looking for treasure on an island. And when other playets come to the island it gives us a chance to give a surprise attack and see how the other team responds.
Giving us the option to have a mermaid come up would be nice. Such as using a conch shell to make the mermaid pop up. You can blow the conch shell, and it makes a loud noise giving away your position. Wait 5-12 seconds before the mermaid comes up to leave. You could give the option to wait even longer such as 20-30 seconds and be able to bring a chest or item with you. But you take the chance of waiting longer and giving away your position to get that item.

Overall if you want to be stealthy this will help a great amount and will also keep teams on look out when going to an island.

  • @r4p1dxhunter I agree with this, why? Because the mermaid is a beacon for people to try and shoot you from.. especially if it spawns in an awkward place where people have an easy shot at you. If they don't know where you are they suddenly will know exactly where you are headed.

Outpost campers are not common, in my experience at least.. there are so many outposts to choose from you are unlucky if you happen to choose one where pirates happen to be... and if this is that much of a problem, then another measure should be introduced. The primary purpose of the mermaid is not an 'anti-camper' measure but a way to facilitate respawning on your ship... I can't think of any valid reason why enemies need to see it..

  • @r4p1dxhunter this is so that if a player decides to camp on an outpost to steal chests from others, the hardworking pirates at least have a chance to spot them and change course. They already make the large plume of blue smoke invisible!

  • I briefly thought of this but I'd rather not see it in the game. I don't want to turn every trip to an outpost it's own expedition. While it probably wasn't intentional it makes it harder to camp at an outpost.

  • 100% DISAGREE WITH THIS IDEA

  • Disagree completely. This would only feed the campers and griefers. Most of us have a limited amount of time to play the game and the last thing we do before logging out is turning in loot. I don't want to be wasting my time inspecting every single outpost or island before docking especially if I am in a hurry. Having these mermaids is actually quite brilliant in my opinion.
