Rewards Need Improvement

  • I'm know I'm not the first to say this, but the rewards need improving. I know this game is supposed to be something of a grind, but It's becoming less and less rewarding, especially at higher levels where you need to work more but the reward is about the same. On top of that, with the difficulty bumps, you remain on islands longer making you a target. Which is understandable, but I think the rewards should match the risk.

    Here's how I believe the reward system should be tweaked:
    -Castaway Chest: 150g - 250g
    -Seafarer's Chest: 250g - 450g
    -Marauder's Chest: 500g - 700g
    -Captain's Chest: 750g - 1000g
    -Admiral's Chest: 1000g-1250g (I know this doesn't exist)
    -Cursed Chest: 1500g - 2000g

    As you can see, I hope for another non cursed chest (Admiral Chest), and since the cursed chests are a pain in the a$$ (especially Chest of Sorrow for solo players) I think the reward should be more suiting. I also think they can build on different levels of Cursed Chests that range in difficulty as you level up (and also vary in reward, but starting at 1500g).

    Clearly I haven't touched on Cursed Skulls or Merchant Items (I'm ignorant of Merchant Items since I don't play those quests) but their equivalent items would value for about that same. Also, this may already be a thing so correct me if I'm wrong, but there should be Magical Skulls that affect you similar to Cursed Chests. I also think there should be magical skeleton bosses you'd have to fight for them.

    Let me know how you'd want the rewards to be structures.

  • @shibby-544 not bothered about the gold where is the xp for dropping these off. I am level 40 in pretty much everything and I hate to say it but I really cannot be bothered to play anymore.

  • @th3-ch4dw1n I would agree with that too. I'm not as concerned with it, but I understand why it's an issue for others. It's hard to become Pirate Legend when the path is unfulfilling/rewarding. Although it sounds like you're almost there! Maybe the upcoming DLC will help keep you in the game long enough.

  • @shibby-544 since I have lost the crew a played with (through boring and repetitive game play) I have one option play alone and hope it gets better,SOONER THAN LATER as in this Wednesday coming or I think it’s over. I loved this game I still do but it’s becoming like an accidental child who’s consuming you life blood for nothing.

  • I want XP for actually digging up a treasure, killing a skeleton or capturing an animal, not just when I sell them.

  • @th3-ch4dw1n It's definitely a game you have to drop for a while and revisit after some new content has been added. I already stopped for a couple weeks and have only started to play again after hearing about the looming new content. Hope it's substantial enough to keep people confident in the game.

  • @lessermagic I agree, we should get some reward for participating in the voyage. It can be soul crushing to struggle with the quest only to have someone rob you, which has only happened about 5 times to me and I'm a solo player, so it could be worse.

  • As others have said, gold be fine but XP needs a fix more. If ye turn in a chest the XP should be the same regardless o' the gold. Captain's chest XP should be 1,200 (fer example) gold equiv no matter what they want to pay ye for it.

    I also like the idea that XP be awarded when ye find the gold, kill the captain or cage an animal (bit trickier with powder kegs I guess), but only if they be on yer list at the time. No spamming the golden chickens for XP grind. T'would alleviate what many see as being griefed when they lose all their gold to pirates. Aye, ye lose the loot but ye still get the XP cause ye still did the job.

    Anything that makes so that XP can't be stolen would be great. XP for finding chest, killing skellies, capturing an animal that's on your list. These would be goodness.

  • You know I often think about this, and how the rewards are so... well... meh. Then I started thinking how if it was changed everyone would be a legend and getting that big haul wouldn't feel as good anymore. I hate to say this I truly do. I cant believe I'm about to say it but here it goes.

    cough I dont think rewards need to be increased. I think more options need to exist to get said rewards but not increased.

    There it's out there now.

  • More gold from seafarers/castaways would be nice

  • I think the gold nerf they did was ridiculous. I sold a captains chest the other day and got 580 for it. 580!! And my XP gain is tied to that. That is down right insulting. If they want to nerf gold gains, that is one thing, but then you can't keep having XP tied to that because it cascades. I am currently 41/35/35 and the rep gains for GH just baffle me. I am not sure if OoS and Merchants also get royally screwed post-40 though.

  • @rdizz Well... for me personally I've no lost too much to pirates. I play safe for the most part so perhaps 5 or 6 thousand doubloons since the game launched has been taken from me or lost to the depths. An I be only high 30s for all 3 factions. So I don't think the seas would be crawling with Legends if rep n' gold were not tied together like they be.

    If ye want to think o' it as different mechanics. Rather than reputation, just make it experience. So ye gain experience in treasure hunting as ye find chests. But ye get gold when ye turn them in. Ye gain experience when ye fight an' kill skeleton captains, but ye gain gold when ye return the skull to the Order of Souls.

    Now, people will still complain about being killed and having their gold taken, aye, but I think the grumbling would diminish if they at least got the experience from accomplishing the voyages.

    Downside.... well fur those that only play to PvP and steal from others (a legit way to play the game) they would only get the gold and not the experience. So I guess it might just cause grumbling from different styles o' players... /shrugs

    I'm just sayin the harder you work for something the greater the rewards feel. But on the other hand I know the rewards in this game are very low. Imagine where we would all be today if you got 3k per captains and or much more xp. Probably wouldn't even be playing sot anymore. You would have everything.

  • @rdizz Aye, I don't think the amount of reward needs to change. They be fine and be there to make it a challenge to reach level 50.

    The idea of splitting rep from gold be more to alleviate the problem with losing yer plunder to pirates or the sea or e'en a crash o' some sorts. The xp (rep) be awarded as ye accomplish the goals n' the gold be there for a turn in. An' hey, if people want to just leave their loot lying around so they don't need to turn it in (xp grinding), well then thar will be mysterious loot left for others to find.

  • @lessermagic I agree. I feel like enemies should even drop stuff occasionally. Maybe maps (message in a bottle) or bananas or whatever.
