is there any way to know that your on the same server? ive heard the wind direction, date and time are usually a good sign but id really like to be able to sail together with friends on different ships. Is there anyway this is possible or could server choice be an option placed in the game. Its possible to choose your servers in other online games why not have it in this game.

I've tried it all. Nothing seems to work with consistency.

I can suggest that there are changes coming very soon which should aid in this matter but there aren't specifics I am aware of.

I can also add that the varied videos released and commentary from lead devs indicate that they hope to see more of this very soon. I feel they still want us to find "strangers" to crew with, but they aren't blind to the desire to allow friends in a players session.

The biggest failure related to this issue is the relatively small server size. Having a chance to set up a server as populated only by friends seems counter to the design interest.
