@shackelfourd I agree that it is an awesome feature to allow people like you to enjoy the game more! I’m glad you are able to play with people who are important to you life! Wouldn’t you feel that it makes more sense to matchmake you with other mixed platform parties? To me it does not make sense to force cross platform play onto Xbox users that are not currently playing with a member of the opposite party. That is the solution I am suggesting. I do not in any way wish for them to disable cross platform play, just give the player the choice as to how they would like to matchmake. Does that make sense?

Players can’t even determine who is on XBox or PC half the time, but every time they die it is assumed that it was because it must have been a hacking pc player.
I record every game session I play and have a LOT of hours logged on. Not once have I seen or recorded anything suspicious. Not once.
A “kill cam”? Call of Duty much?
Look if it makes you XBoxers feel happier and feel like the game is more balanced if it has a button to turn on and off cross platform play, then so be it.
Personally, I’ve played on both. I’ve sunk ships of players who I know were on both platforms.
The game is good, balanced, and fair to me a vast sum of players.
If you want keyboard and mouse support for your Xbox than cheers! However, cutting out a large portion of the player base is only going to lessen your experience. I bet if they got rid of cross platform today, you Xbox guys would still find someone else to blame for “disadvantages” you feel have to exist against you.

I play on both and personally know over 50 friends, family, and coworkers who I know all own the game and love it as is ESPECIALLY because it is cross platform.
@xxxrookxxx I absolutely agree with you! I do not want to insinuate that all PC players are hacking, some are just very good and make me look like a fool! I feel like the skill ceiling is higher for kB/m than for controller. Those that are good, have the potential to be very good. Playing casually and just exploring the game, I don’t mind any competitive disadvantage. However, when I am getting my grind on and trying to hit 40, I want to know I’m on a level playing field. If I’m loosing 3-4 hours of work, I want to know it is because someone else on console outplayed me with the same controller. I don’t even want to have to question hacking or m/kB advantage. Does that make sense?
Also, no lack of love from me either! I love the community as a whole, just want to see it get better as we grow!
@shackelfourd But my point is that allowing the “option to choose” does not hurt the experience. Servers are not massive and needing to be populated. I have not seen a good argument to support forcing cross play. If us xboners want to be isolated then give us the option. It’s no skin off your back other than you loosing out on easy kills from less skilled players.
@danomite1989 not take away, make it optional. Just like every other game that is advertised as cross play.
@und4unt3d0n3 make an optional toggle switch to opt out, bam! But In all honesty, I bought an Xbox because I enjoy playing with a controller on a couch, not so that I can spend $200+ on peripherals so that I can be on a level field.

Pc players load back onto their ships from the ferry in the blink of any eye whereas Xbox can take from 20 seconds to a minute. This alone is an unexceptable advantage let alone the obvious advantages pc players have in combat situations. This is why most

I disagree. I think there's enough of a community playing the game that no one will even notice the lack of any Xbox players that opt out.

Your post supports my assertion that PC players are at an advantage. Why would I want this as a console player who purchased a console, to play against other console players?

If you, your friends, and everyone else “loves” cross play, there will be at least 24 players to populate a server. These are not large servers, all you need are 24 people.

Simply enabling mouse and keyboard support is not an acceptable solution. That’s the equivalent of saying that PC players can only use controller. Would that feel like a sufficient answer to the problem if you were forced to use controller?

You still get to play with your friends, Xbox players that care are able to opt out and feel justified. No one looses out here. The option for an even playing field is not an outrageous request.

In some games like fortnite, pc has a significant advantage. But not in this game. When it comes to sinking your ship, effective sailing and cannoning is what decides battles, not gun skill.
And you can assign item shortcuts on Xbox too. Really the biggest advantage is the keyboard so you can actually talk to people with no mics.
all of which are significantly easier to perform while shooting thanks to a mouse and keyboard. You move like a tank so even something as simple as bucketing / repairing / sails or having to multitask in any way is significantly less efficient. I play with a controller on pc most of the time... unless there is a pvp scenario.

Its quite a bit different and calling an idea stupid isn't an insult. It's just saying the idea is stupid. It's overkill because the problem isn't cross play its keyboard/mice. If lets say they enabled keyboard/mice for xbox... then the problem exists within the same platform. It already exists for PC players that have their PC hooked up like a console and play with a controller.
Its stupid because you haven't actually identified the problem correctly and the solution is sort of not well targeted.

Again, there are several post on this. It does nothing to resolve the issue, it simply splits the players.
Find a solution, not a bandaid. Some ideas are adjustable controller sensitivity, or adding keyboard and mouse support. Don't split the player base cause you had a bad run in with another player.... We've all had it happen.

Bam! These are the kind of posts I’m looking for! You nailed it man! I had never considered PC players that want to play on controller rather than kB/m. Since I’m an Xbox player, it’s not something I would have every thought of! I can totally get behind your thought process and I agree that it would be a better solution that simply enabling option opt out. I will edit the OP to reflect your great suggestion!
