{MEGA-THREAD} Weapons, Tools, & Equipment - Suggestions and Balancing

  • So, I've started this in response to all the ideas of different weapon types and ideas floating around. I will list a few of the common ones that I think we can all see being an auto include in the game. After that you can comment your ideas below and I'll make sure to update the list with your ideas so long as their isn't a very close duplicate already in there. Please make sure that your weapon or equipment has a clear purpose on how to be used, and has some rudimentary basis in either pirate/naval lore and general reality (i.e. no nukes or laser swords). If I update the list with your idea I'll include you name for credit, though i might change wording slightly depending on spelling, grammar and such.

    • Boarding Axe: Able to be swung at half speed of the cutlass and doing 90% of said damage, the boarding axe's strength in combat would be its power attack dealing 90% of player damage in one swing, but requiring 150% of the time as a charged cutlass attack to execute. Further, the axe could be used to pry off wooden boards in enemy or friendly ships. if there are no existing holes to hack at then it will not be possible. each board takes two charged swings to take off, making a loud hacking sound to alert players what is happening to their ship.

    • Pistol Duel-wielding: The pistol will be updated to have the ability to be housed in both weapon slots. This can work as having to separate pistols ready to be drawn, or as taking up one single slot (can't switch between pistols, but can't have another weapon) with both hands being filled with a pistol when drawn. Reload speed would be further slowed by 30% to compensate for the burst damage capability.

    • Grenade: With a bandoleer of 3, and starting with one in your hand, for a total of four per a "magazine", each grenade would explode with the damage of a cannonball, able to knock holes in ships, and with the same damage area attributed to cannonballs. Each grenade is set on a timer of 5 seconds after being lit, and has to be manually thrown before they detonate to avoid an instant death for the thrower. Grenades do not travel very far (maybe the length of a galleon at optimum throwing angle[45°?)

    • Daggers: With a total of 6 daggers, just like other weapons, you can either engage in combat with cuts that are twice as fast as a cutlass, but deal half damage in comparison, or you can aim the dagger and then launch it a short distance (roughly half the distance of a pistol shot before it starts to fall, IF thrown at 45° angle) dealing damage if you hit the target as 80% of a pistol shot. The main attraction being it's silence as well as the three hit combo that the cutlass (which often causes a stun) can be achieved much quicker, but dealing far less damage.

    • Grappling Hook: Can latch on to any surface, and allows players to climb up the rope, scaling vertical surfaces. Gravity effects the grapple quit quickly so it can only feasibly go a short distance. I would honestly say that you should not be able to swing on a grapple rope as that could lead to hundreds of bugs. But, it could be used to board enemy ships, latch onto them as they pass by in the water so you don't miss the ladder, or climb over cliffs, or even descend from them. Can only carry two at a time.

Please leave any comments on balancing, or further ideas below! :)
