what i would like to see in this games future

  • first off ive had a blast playing this game and think that Rare have done a great job, second this is my first post on this forum so apologies if i parrot anything people have already posted. but after playing since alpha/beta/release i have a list of things that i personally believe could enhance this game. not hit pirate legend yet obvs so dont know what lies instore.

    public events/questing

    • npc castaways on islands that you can escort back to outposts for a reward
    • Navy - armada attacking an outpost, players need to band together to defend the outpost and get rewards
    • Navy convoy - a large fleet (10 ships) of Navy ships sailing through the map, they will attack pirates on sight. players should band together to rid them from the seas. for massive rewards.
    • cargo ships - npc cargo ships filled with rare silks and tea, protected by a couple of sloops, take out the ships or trade with them ?
    • Maelstrom - similar to storms and the Kraken, massive whirlpool which sucks ships to the deep if sailed properly crews can escape, rewarded with a title

    Crew/Clan support

    • allow for players to enlist members into a large crew/clan with its own ranking system and global status/ranking
    • allow for crew achievement rewards - new clothes, ship, weapon customisables etc
    • add an instanced crew outpost that acts as the games lobby instead of a menu. so when you load the game up before you chose to sail on galleon, sloop etc you can choose to load into your clan outpost.
    • clan outpost should have the ships of every crew member anchored in the cove.
    • outposts should be customisable and upgradable, more progression to work on eg
    • you then choose which ship you wish to sail on party up and sail out of the cove thus syncing to a server/game
    • allow for custom pirate flag design for your crew, members can choose to use a personalised flag or the crew flag

    FLAGS

    • pirates communicated with flags not by waving
    • allow us to hoist colours reflecting our intentions to approaching ships, white, yeloow, jolly roger
    • allow for custom jolly roger design, see crew aswell

    headhunts/bounties

    • set a threshold for overly agressive players. i.e. you sink 3+ player ships and then you get marked with a bounty to other players on the server. if you win/defend yourself and or the bounty wears off your good maybe rewarded. if you are defeated the opposing pirates will be rewarded by claiming the bounty on your head
    • might make players think twice about griefing if they have an entire server chasing them down :P

    Commandeer ships

    • if you manage to get onto an enemy ship and lower their flag and raise your own (stopping their spawn), then wipe their crew out the ship should be yours to sail away.
    • you should then be able if wanted to sell the ship to the shipwright at an outpost for reward or keep it for the remainder of your play session or until the ship is detroyed/stolen.

    Outposts

    • outposts should have an appearance that reflects its current wealth. E.G. the wealthiest (most bounties/faction rewards claimed) should build and change the outpost over time. so in a years time the community may have ended up building a sea of thieves style Tortuga

    Faction ideas

    • Explorers guild, quests to find uncharted islands which you log and then they will be added to your map by the guild on completion of the voyage.
    • Privateer's, pvp guild based around hunting other players

    Caves, untold stories

    • there are plenty of caves hidden around the world which feel like thyre missing a random chest/reward. plus a small note/book/tome would be great telling a small tale of what happened there. collectable explorers guild tomes, see factions

    quality of life

    • let me drop bananas for my friends when out and about
    • allow for keybinding to left and right on Dpad, eg hotkey bucket, wood shortcuts

    Ships

    • more than just 2 ship classes
    • let me choose to run 2 sloops when playing 4 player
    • rowing boats would be nice but not vital
    • allow me to customise the colours of all ship cosmetics
    • captains quaters on the ship should be customisable, trinkets and memnto's from in game achievements
      anchors, would be nice to see an anchor underwater when your anchored.

    clothing

    • more cosmetics
      -allow players to change the colours of all clothing options, more variety and personalisation to characters
    • add a barber to the outposts and more hair/beard options
    • add a tattoo shop to the outposts, tattoos should be rewarded for in game achievements eg. defeat the Kraken unlock a kraken tattoo backpiece.

    mysterious stranger

    • every 5 ranks with factions they should reward with a title

    Cosmetics

    • allow players to look as dramatic as the faction reps. eg high level gold hoarder should be able to get gold body parts/scars.

    items and weapons

    • war drums would be great when approaching player ships
    • war hammers as an option to cutlasses
    • hand cannons- actual hand held cannnons super heavy long reload ?

    edit

    • add ropes that you can swing on on the ships. i.e. swing from ship to ship during combat. swing off ship when reaching an island. dont be automated make it entirely player controlled.
    • make cross platform play optional, i dont really want to play at a disadvantage to pc players
    • add pets, not as micro-transactions

  • I'd say that plus pets (besides the custom ship because I already spent a lot :p) sounds like a pretty good goal for the first year of SoT or the first 6 months depending on how busy Rare is

  • @havoc-pirate I love all your ideas! I’d like to pick the ones I really liked, but I liked them all. One more, a team death match, capture the flag and territory game mode as well. This game has SO MUCH POTENTIAL!!! I’m excited for the future of this game. I just hope Rare will be smart about it.

  • @hdwd258 thanks man, and yeah totally there's so much potential with this game. feels like the perfect pirate sandbox/framework that can be built upon
