Wonderful french pirates

  • Hello fellow pirates!
Just finished an adventurous voyage by boarding a french ship and messed around a bit. Would be fun if someone could translate what they said during this.
Sorry for the Swedish and abscense of subtitles, and sorry to the french guys who eventually lost their ship to the sea.

    Best Regards,

  • As soon as I read "French pirates" I had to watch and check the gamertags to see who they were. During the beta I teamed up with a galleon of French pirates, with the one of them that spoke English joining me on my sloop, and we sailed around for a few hours raiding and doing maps before they had to go. Turns out they were fairly popular streamers and were streaming the entire time. Seems they weren't the pirates you fought against, but still pretty cool to see the game enjoyed across the globe

  • @cytotoxic-blade Actually ive met a numerous people from france, they seem to be everywhere!

  • Hi, another french pirate here.
They are basically describing what you are doing. First "He dropped the anchor" followed by "he prefered to jump in the water rather than dieing ! B*****d !" when you jumped off the ship. Followed by a bunch of "he shot me", "he came back, that B*****d" that kind of stuff. Bear in mind, the "B*****d" was said in a friendly way, not as an actual insult. No aggressiveness in his tone, just cursing.

  • @sadralelth Haha, they felt quite frustrated but feels like they had fun aswell :) Thanks for the translation!

  • As a note if you Enable Cortana (Xbox One or Windows)., this will automatically enable Text-to-Speech... this will read out text chat., enabling in Game Options (Xbox App // Settings on Windows 10., not sure where it is on Xbox) it will Transcript and Translate whatever you say into Text Chat (again you need Cortana Enabled).

Combining the two is quite useful for Cross-Language Communication., although I'd strongly recommend people train their Speech Recognition.
Mine is quite familiar with my voice at this point as I've found said feature exceptionally useful for being able to get Cortana to handle background operations or write out documents while I'm doing other tasks like Creating Art or Programming.

Which I can then later clean up for Design Documents, Specifications, Concept Notes, Bug Reports, etc. but I think as a Game Feature it's pretty damn awesome, especially as Microsoft Translator is now an always installed Feature of Windows and Xbox.

Hopefully at some point in the near future they'll have the feature they showcased Microsoft Translator with when it was a prototype, where it would build a Custom TTS Voice from your own Voice; then would use that instead of Microsoft Hazel / George.
Was a little surreal hearing a close proxy of yourself speaking a language you couldn't speak.

  • @oliverero Well yeah they were being outplayed by one guy so I could understand them being a bit frustrated, but by what they said and the tone of their voices they were not mad and definitely having fun ^^. I wish more people had that kind of spirit, when I board a ship it's usually true anger and salt.

  • @leyvin Had no idea that existed. Will look that up for sure. Thanks for the tip!

I assume you're not french actually for they are not saying "B*****d" but "salopard" instead, which is way less insulting and even pretty respectful, for it means "hothead warrior" for doing things others wouldn't have balls to do, usually using uncommon/dirty methods (ex : the famous "The dirty dozen" movie translate in "Les douze salopards" in french)

  • @meurtrisseur Assume what you want mate. He did call them "salopard" yes, and I attempted to translate it not from pure meaning but from the context in which both terms are mostly used. Aaaanyway. Thread necromancy there.

My comment was not made against you but rather against rude people. Read this thread days ago but joined an english speaking crew lately who were freely very rude, hence I felt the need to precise the dialog content of this vid for it's quite an example to follow for many.

Your lack of knowledge leads to a pretty misleading idea about this crew for there's quite a meaningful difference between b*****d and salopard. This french crew were quite playing the game fairly and obviously enjoyed this skirmish, without the too frequent moaning, crying and insulting one can usually experience in game when doing pvp.
