Lag spikes with a GTX 1080 ti

  • So every now and then I will get lag spikes lasting for sometimes a whole minute and then it goes away and I have 60 fps... I have a GTX 1080 ti and I'm running the game at legendary settings so thats not even maximum. Does anybody have a solution? If not, I am very unimpressed with this game running this way with a $1000 dollar graphics card. BTW this is on 1080p just so you know.

  • Did you update to the latest Nvidia driver? They optimized it for Sea of Thieves.

  • @jonathanbak I don't have the latest one but I will try that out and see what happens. And by optimize do you mean that they just change your in-game settings to what they recommend? Because I can do that on my own. If that's not what you mean then do you mean they actually upgrade something in your graphics card to make the card run that game faster?

    Wireless or LAN?

  • @skaary27 This has nothing to do with internet this is FPS problems. But I have Verizon Wireless.

  • @powerbread40615

    It does!

My friend had the same issue.

After he changed from wireless to cable his lag spikes disappeared.

    EDIT :

I know it shouldnt be this way, but it really worked just try it and please give feedback.

  • @skaary27 Seems odd that frames would drop on account of internet.

  • @powerbread40615

Yeah it does, but he had exactly the same issue, cable solved it :) Just try it.

  • @skaary27 I probably would try it but wireless is the only thing I can get out here in the country. Thanks for the tip though.

  • @powerbread40615 Same I can only get AT&T Wireless where I live. But I haven't gotten lag spikes before, that is until tonight it get getting lag spikes with a buzzing sound. I have the Asus 980.

  • Surely the wireless router in your house has Ethernet cable ports

  • @powerbread40615 Hate to say it, but that IS your issue. Poor internet connection can and will cause performance issues. Your frame rate is dependent on how fast information is received by the client, how fast that information gets processed and lastly, how fast that information is returned to the server. Any bottleneck in that equation can and will drop your FPS because the client isn't getting its information fast enough.

Not only is wireless slower than direct connections, it can also be negatively impacted by minor things such as cordless phones, microwaves, even CB radios from passing traffic.

The first step in solving any hiccups is removing bottlenecks till you find the one causing your issue. If possible direct connect to your modem/router with a CAT7 data cable and see if the issue persists.
