This is a story of a little maneuver I call the Rusty Hook, it's hard to do because it needs a very specific set of elements to work out but that is what this thread is here for, to tell our stories of good moments in the game and not to ask for PvE servers or complain about stuff.
This is my tale:
On that rainy afternoon my usual travel companion was not available so I decided to take on the Sea on my own (have a year old baby, I don't have a lot of time to play, so whenever I have a small window of opportunity I take it).
Having decided to do a quick Gold Hoarders quest I was granted to maps, one to north west of my spawning outpost and one to the south. I took the one on the NW first, knowing I had to dock on the top left of the Island to be closer to area where the treasure was buried, as I do my approach I notice a galleon on the island to the west of where I was, nothing between us except open water...
She is docked, and there is no movement at all while I slowly stop "The Aries", I wait a bit and no one moves, so I leave and go looking for my treasure, but sometimes big islands are though to get to right spot. Suddenly I hear a zing and a cannon ball passes by me, but the galleon is on the same place, it couldn't have shot that far. I look east and see another galleon. I run and jump from the cliff the swim to my ship, hitting a rock on the way down and losing half my HP.
As I raise the anchor I see them closing in, I have only one chance, going against wind towards the other galleon, talk about being between a rock and a hard place. I have no loot and nothing to loose, so I do it, if I am going down, let it be worth it.
As I go the other galleon raises anchor and starts going towards me and my pursuers fast, so I decide to play chicken with them, head on!
When we are close to hitting they turn their broadside to me with an anchor move, I turn south as fast as I can to do the same but they shoot the galleon and not me, I continue to move south and both the galleons battle away, ignoring me while I bask in the glorious battle happening on my aft.
I go to other island unscathed, get my treasure, sell it and then return to my original voyage, no galleons or anyone to be seen, I get my other treasure and cash it in. Have some grog, log out and go back to adulting.
