If I download the Xbox Digital version, will I still have to install the Physical version?

This is probably a silly question, but I thought I could save time by installing the game digitally for free through the Xbox Game Pass, and not having to wait for it to install when I get the physical copy. Will this work or are they two ’separate’ games?
