Remove the Gun Jam

  • Originally, the gun jamming was intended to stop the quick swap exploit from being possible. The 1 second pause between each shot was a compromise so that pvp would be smoother.

Guns not firing still persists. In fact, from my experience, it has happened way more often than it has before this patch. I have sunk because of the constant jamming and it has now made it ever so harder to TDM against other crews.

Here is my solution: Remove the gun jamming. The sword lunge is an exploit that people use ALL the time, and quick swap is one that has to get removed? I'm not calling for full quick swap to return, but if you pull out your weapon to launch the first shot, it should not be affected by the jam.

  • sword lunge is an exploit that people use ALL the time

And offers 0 reason to be removed. Doesn’t do extra quick damage or offer support between other weapons.

The sword lunge is an exploit

    No, No it isn't.

  • @look-behind-you

Was it never mentioned that it was an exploit? i thought they incorporated it in the game since it was so widely used

  • I fact checked btw, it has been referred to as an exploit

  • it has been referred to as an exploit

The use of diving into the water and flying. Yes, that part is one. But the Lunge itself was always its secondary feature.

    Fact check sources required.

  • @burnbacon "The use of diving into the water and flying"

    BurnBacon, 2026

If quick swap is removed, so should sword lunge, both are "tools" that make the combat smoother

  • @karminiumsot It was mentioned as being monitored pre-release, and was shortly after declared part of the game by the Dev's themselves, not some random on the internet saying "trust me brah".

  • In my experience the gun jamming has reduced.
The only times where it still happens, is when your timing with the sprint is off and you're trying to shoot faster then the 1 second delay allowes.

And to add to the discussion.
Drew said the block lunge was an exploit, but they liked it so much, they decided it becomes a feature.

Quickswap is now also a feature/the norm, so that argument isnt valid anymore.
Exept if you mean instaswap, which was ridiculous.

  • @karminiumsot you are just clicking too early

  • @captain-knyt I'm not though, there are times where the animation has finished and I still cannot fire. I wouldn't mind the switch from weapon to weapon, but it is jamming before I fire the first shot. It kept happened yesterday, and even today, so I am thinking it's more of a bug.

  • @karminiumsot The animation is meaningless, there's a 1 second timer after swapping to a gun, and that's it

You are sprint equipping and trying to shoot before the timer is over

  • @captain-knyt so even when firing first and not swapping

  • @karminiumsot There's something there when you join a server (or something like that?) where you have to wait for the whole animation bringing a weapon out before using it for the first time. Some jank still involved there somehow.

Also, has Rare ever mentioned their stance on sword lunge cancelling? Grabbing an interactable before or after missing a sword lunge to stop delays. I hear quick swap mentioned all the time but no one really mentions the sword exploits.

  • hear quick swap mentioned all the time but no one really mentions the sword exploits.

Players know what is a real problem exploit over a fun exploit.

  • @burnbacon You are saying they should remove the self stun after missing a lunge then? Or maybe a button to cancel a lunge after starting one?
You can endlessly start and cancel sword lunges from the sloop wheel and brig cannon to ladder guard someone. It's just not widely used. The whole point of the lunge was the risk of missing/charge time, to be able to 60 damage and knockback to all enemies in a 10m line (with hopping).

  • Ahoy maties! Just a reminder to keep this respectful and on topic!

    Ta!

  • I love posts like these. Complains about an actual exploit, demanding for it to be reinstated and uses the ol' reliable retort; if x exploit isn't allowed, nor should sword lunge

  • @look-behind-you said in Remove the Gun Jam:

So it was considered an exploit before the devs thought : Hey why not keep this cool exploit in the game and just call it a game mechanic/feature.

So yes, the sword lunge WAS an exploit. If it wasn't for the devs wanting it, and them patching it out since the start, it would of been called an exploit back then if players complained about keeping the sword lunge in the game. Also the devs I think it was in a dev video last year or two years ago now? Stated that 'exploits' can be made into game features at their own discretion.

Plain and simple. The mental gymnastics isn't going to work in 2026 with fed up players in the game + community, you can use the search tool function and clearly see CM's back then saying it was something they would look into and the word ''exploit'' being thrown around left and right by them. Check mate. Not directed at you btw @Look-Behind-You

    @KarminiumSOT
Keep in mind this game has ALWAYS been buggy and has had really bad performance issues since day 1 till present day, accept that it will never change, ever. PvP in this game has always been clunky one way or another.
Unfortunately that includes the weapon play. Countless times I pull out my gun, ADS'ing and it refuses to shoot for a split second losing a crucial advantage over my opponent who is just as good as me.

  • So in short.
It wasn't an exploit that offered advantage, just a mild coding error that turned out to be enjoyable. Exploits are always labeled as "Broken in game mechanics that offer an advantage" SL doesn't. If you miss (which players do) you take a short breather, leaving you open.
DGing/QSing, never miss and always ends up killing players quicker than they can fight. Exploit.

In the end, very end. Sword Lunging was not saw as a game breaking device that would result in players having a bad time. Nobody really complained about it, EVERYONE used it. It silly and actually has an actual purpose in game, unlike DG and QS. Only purpose is to annoy, drive a wedge between players having a good time and throwing out "Its a skill issue" response.

It anything...using the Grapple gun to grab a Keg from your ship while you launch yourself from a ship. That hasn't been labeled as one is funny on it self...
