The Season 19 Dev Update is Good for the Game.

  • "By optimizing for regular monthly feature updates, we're just delivering features that feel rushed, aren't materially expanding the game, and behind the scenes, that delivery cadence is also negatively impacting the team."
    ...
"It's clear that we need to start making some significant changes to how we're working as a team, how we're delivering updates to the game, but most crucially reassess the type of content we're making and get back to the heart of where Sea of Thieves started with our focus on players creating stories together." - Drew

I don't think this was an easy decision to make as this will certainly lead to a loss of short term revenue. Also it's nearly an admission that the content being cut from Season 19 was not something that the team thought was in the interest of players creating stories together.

That's pretty huge, and I'm honestly happy to hear it, because I didn't think so either.

I know there are lots of people on this forum that will damn Rare no matter what they do, but I would much rather wait to get an update is novel and adds to the game's unique character than to have them toil endlessly in half-baked features and recycled ideas.

    Looking forward to what's next.

    Cheers!

  • It weird thing to think.
First they were all up for this 3 act update thing, and never considered having all these updates spread out wouldnt cause more harm.

It was fine before the idea of 3 acts, why they thought it wouldnt create more of a work load is mysterious. Especially with track record of thinks releasing and breaking, having to spend those days fixing a problem and also working on Acts 2 and 3....

Now they plan to go backwards...making monthly huge updates...many could of told them that xD

Maybe they will start backtracking on other ideas they thought was good as well.... Diving for starters, revamp it but not remove it. Maybe add it to the Quest Board?

Diving = Low risk and low items/pay along with endless.
Quest Board = High rise and large items/pay but limited by area.

  • @burnbacon Is retrieving items from sunken ships that you find with birds circling overhead not already diving? Or did you mean stuff with the ocean floor? That'd be neat.

  • @rare-jumbie sagte in The Season 19 Dev Update is Good for the Game.:

*"It's clear that we need to start making some significant changes to how we're working as a team, how we're delivering updates to the game, (…)

Sea of Thieves has always been designed as a live service game. Right from the start. So they should have figured out how to deliver updates eight years ago.
