Improving S11's voyages through Legacy Voyages

  • Lets not beat around the bush here, Season 11 ruined how voyages are undertaken. Now sure, the predictability of these voyages having consistent loot within a close proximity of the player is beneficial to those who have limited time to play, but for those engaging in longer sessions, you'll end up repeating the same voyages over and over and over again. I believe a medium should be introduced, one where players with less time on their hands can still engage with Season 11's voyage system WHILST also allowing those engaging in long sessions to experience lengthier, more unpredictable voyages. My idea would be Legacy Voyages.

    Legacy Voyages would be very similar to their pre-Season 11 voyage counterparts, however it would also have changes from Season 11's voyage system;

    • Legacy Voyages cannot be dived to.

    • Legacy Voyages cannot give Kingly or Treasured loot (any loot introduced in Season 11).

    • Legacy Voyages will direct you to an island further away (compared to a Season 11 voyage).

    • Legacy Voyages are randomized, meaning you could get a Gold Hoarders map with 10 X's, or 4 X's.

    • If you cancel 3 Legacy Voyages in a row without completing one, you'll be locked out from voting up another Legacy Voyage for 15min.

Now understandably, players might not want to engage in the Legacy Voyages considering how a Sailors Chest goes for more than a Captains Chest, however this is a issue arising from Sea of Thieves gold-flation problem, and that's a whole can of worms I'm not going to touch, that's something Rare would have to address to balance the game.

Alongside this, changes should be made to how Skeleton Captain digs work. Before Season 11, digging up a Skeleton Captains Order felt fun, it was a gamble on what you would get, nowadays it feels like a 90% chance for a Storage Crate, with a 10% chance of a Stronghold Keg/Reaper Chest or Bounty. Personally, I don't find that fun, it should be returned to the old loot table, as the surprise of wondering what you'll uncover was fun. Also that issue of 'Storage Crate sold!' is still a thing... yeah.

With the Hunter's Call added post Season 11, I envision that they would get Devils Roar variants of the Fishing Map + Meg Hunt voyages as otherwise there is no voyages available for Hunters in the Roar. I also imagine that their Legacy Voyages would take players to islands further away, with the Fishing Map voyage having greater numbers of fish within these shoals, whilst the Meg Hunts would direct the player further away to engage with the Megalodon, however would reward more scales and teeth in return.

For the Reaper's Bones Legacy Voyages, I imagine that, alongside directing the player to a faraway island to engage in the voyage, the loot that the Order of Bone and Blade skeletons dig up would be higher tier (like Shadow, Verdant and Gilded Bones), allowing pirates to more easily complete certain commendations (like Reaper of Master's Offerings)

Additionally, Merchant Delivery Legacy Voyages will contain Gunpowder Kegs, meaning players can now easily get the Merchant of Black Powder commendation and achievement done.

Furthermore, returning these voyages would allow players to obtain Silver and Stone Vault Keys again (as I believe they are unobtainable loot items, correct me if I'm wrong), alongside certain Merchant Manifests.

This all I want. Longer voyages with multiple X or random stuff.

  • Yes
    Please
The randomisation of the original quests is where the fun was at
The new, 'you will always get the exact same experience' voyages are such a HUGE downgrade

  • 100% this...

Give me some randomness to my voyages back. I agree that the rewards need to be consistent with your level of pirate... but please bring back some randomness.

  • Rename the newer style ones to Excursions (a short trip by definition), bring back the old randomized single chapter ones as Voyages (a long journey by definition), and add in the old randomized multi chapter ones as Odysseys (a long and eventful journey by definition).

This would allow players to fine tune their approach, and provide distinct and identifiable (and kinda cool) terms for them.

  • @musicmee
I miss having the progression for voyages
Getting better ones the higher your reputation is
Now it doesn't matter whether you're level 5 or 500
    It's always the same
It's so saddening thinking about the greatness that's been lost

  • I'd said it myself before, but the standardisation of the loot tables in Season 11 has made most voyages predictable and boring. Removing the RNG of potentially better or worse loot was a mistake.

The reason why Voyages of Luck, Pop-Up Plunder, Mega Stashes, or even the recent chance of a Chest of Fortune in Questboard voyages (Community Weekend) work and are very popular is that they have that randomness.

  • I 4th this, 5th this? I don't know. Whatever, I agree with this to extreme levels. Give us our randomness. Maybe reintroduce captain quest thingy's where you could get anything?
