Sea of Thieves BUG LIST

  • So lets get all pokemons.
    Il start with those that i briefly can think of.
    Post those that i forgot and il add them to the list.

    1. When picking up cpt logbook from cptn table left hand is missing.
    2. Sometimes you fail to go up or down the ship ladder until death. (introduced this season Act 3)
    3. No loot\barrels is coming up from ships sunk close around Arena rock.
    4. Merchants sometimes fail to give you bought crates. (unless you purchase something from captaincy supplies)
    5. Quest parchment appears to be curved in pirate hands quite often. (introduced this season)
    6. Mermaid sound glitch, sometimes people can hear your mic through mermaid spots you used. (introduced prob since game release)
    7. Sometimes loading to server and cant use emotes\tools quick bars.
    8. There is a chance to stuck in emote forever without ability to move or perform any actions. (introduced this season)
    9. Selling captain logbook thats above the grade 1 (2500, 10000 gold) from collectors chest counts as selling grade 1 book which is 300g.
    10. Equipping certain items within clothing chest cause preview to disfunction until game restart.
    11. Prob 60% of the playerbase got their Milestones tab completely disfunctional in game.
    12. When coming out of tunnel of the damned back to normal servers wind animation is speedup x2 and clouds are almost floating in the sea.
    13. Skeleton ships aggro range is x10 times bigger than before. (intorduced this season)
    14. Ashen lords sometimes dying in few hits on the first stage due to some bugs.
    15. Reaper emissary get insane boost from grade 1 to grade 4 almost 5 by completing skeleton orders.
    16. Sometimes when shooting out of the cannon during the turn you are sent out under some invalid angle.
    17. If players do hide using disguises out of your render range then as soon as they get there - hiding animation completely replays making them easy to spot.
    18. Mermaids persist even if there is noone on the island and ship sunk, if mermaid owners appear to be on the ferry of the damned.
    19. People spawning on forts without ships. Im still not sure if its cheaters or a new glitch, but i've encountered few times people who were repeatedly appearing on my fort without ship being any close, i do kill them then after standard ferry time they re-appear on the skelly fort. Probably some glitch as they were some advanced players, and no cheaty behaviour besides that were spotted. (introduced this season)
    20. Some sessions joined result in not having any notifications. e.g loot sold, players joined'quit etc.
    21. Various blackscreen spots players use to their advantage. e.g 2 barrels at Monkey Island Tall Tale on each outpost, scaffold underneath reaper park spot at hideout etc.
      22) New reaper warrior urns cannot be placed to collectors chests.
    22. Sometimes buying captaincy (usually fruit) it doesnt appear in barrel, buying something else sometimes reveals it.
    23. Sometimes its unable to use ammo crate on enemy ships.
    24. When trying to resume the fort at lower scaling it breaks and fails to proceed. (when sinking a galleon for example doing FOTD, fort trying to adjust for lesser crew size and result disfucntional)
    25. Sometimes loot getting stuck in the deck and needing to be harpooned out, or could be way too deep so only sinking the ship will make it accesable.
    26. Players climbling island ladders are invisible. At least teammates.
    27. When you grapple to a ladder and it doesn't let you grab despite you mashing F.
    28. Sometimes hourglass music playing twice, slightly offset, so it sounds like an echo.
    29. When teammate leaving, current weapon plays reequip animation and ammo gets refilled for both guns.

  • 18 I suspect is often when players dont leave the game properly, rage quit by just closing it
    19 is an exploit
    21 i wouldn't consider an exploit, people learning blackscreen spots isn't unintended game behaviour.
    22 I assume is intentional, some valuable loot just isn't stackable in chests, like emissary flag etc

    When I play on ping I too often get a desync where im stuck unable to move on deck and crewmate has to blunderbomb me (im actually on cannon but not on my screen)
    You buy captaincy (usually fruit) and it doesnt appear in barrel, buying something else sometimes reveals it
    Being unable to use ammo crate on enemy ships
    Merchant manifest ships not spawning
    Fort waves of skellies not spawning
    Loot getting stuck in the deck and needing to be harpooned out

    Regarding your first point its just general desync issue so i guess cant list that as a bug.
    About manifests, some quests dont have ships at the end intentionally, if the last note says someting about storm you will be able to find only floating manifest and no shipwreck.
    Players learning blackscreen spots aint a problem, problem is the blackscreen spots themvelves as they provide more advanced players with unfair advantage - quick way to return to ship instead of lurking for mermaid for minutes.
    For reaper urns, their lesser versions not that much cheaper but can be placed into a chest, also its "small item", you can run with them. So its clearly a bug that they cant be placed into a chest.

  • @coopers-rum is it an unfair advantage if it is something accessible to everyone? It's not like they are using any software or hardware that means others cant do the same. The only 2 consistent blackscreens i use are the barrels you mention at outpost and the tower at fort of the damned

    It is using game bug\glitch at the end of the day.

  • @coopers-rum blackscreen is an intended mechanic where if you get stuck the game sends you back to ship. I guess only devs can decide as whether deemed an exploit. Just a pity you can get accidentally stuck and need blunderbomb to escape it doesnt even blackscreen you 🤣

    Indeed, but various spots give you 100% blackscreen which should be adjusted not to give that opportunity. e.g - put monkey island barrels closer or further from each other so you cant get between them so proc blackscreen on demand. Same goes for fotd tower etcetera.

  • 13 will be gone when the season ends. 15 isn't a bug shhhhhh. 21 is something they can't patch really. The way this game treats blackscreens, they would have to get rid of all geometry that isn't 90 degree angles or higher. Even then, if two parallel planks are close enough to each other, you can use the dock to blackscreen. You can use most of the trading company posts to blackscreen too. The only way to fix black screens like that is to fully change how they work. 26 is a silly one. How is it that we have so many loot items that sit below the deck when we put them down? Even emissary flags just fully disappear a lot of the time. It seems like the only parts of the boat with proper collision are the bowsprit end and the railings.

    Some key words that means doesnt happen and wouldnt be counted.

    and a lot of these are so unheard of, even searching for evidence proves they dont exist.

  • i imagine this will just get locked anyway and im not sure this is an issue that really impacts much? but if you leave a game back to main menu and join a new game (on windows, steam version at least) in windows volume mixer which i used to adjust audio levels as its less clunky than in game having to open menus when trying to play...

    duplicated sea of thieves entries in volume mixer when joining new play sessions. at least joining via the guild ships menu and jumping between guild crews. i have gotten upto as many as 20 sea of thieves entries in my volume mixer though they are all set to 1% or something and seem to be inactive? while the actual proper one is at the volume i set usually 60% or so

    basically this will get locked because of "you can submit bugs via the bug report form, so they can be copy pasted auto replied to and ignored, and then try to push the issue further they will tell you to go post on the forums so the mod team can lock your post" lol

    also the bug for log books in collectors chest i suspect the act of simply putting them in the chest wipes their data. i could test this easy enough but honestly no desire to play right now after such a long chest of fortune farm this past few weeks im done. all i did test once was putting my own log book in a chest, burying it, digging it up to see if it would remove "yours" from it (not that they every say yours, but the game knows and values them at 1gold) so i put extraordinary book in a chest, buried it dug it up took out the noteworthy plain cover log book which sold for 300g. i suspect simply putting it in the chest is erasing the data. as its one of the only items in the game outside of emissary flags themselves that grows in value.

    not sure if it still happens since i have no desire to run monkey island again. but the lechuck fight at the end i forgot it was a insult battle so i was fighting him with a friend and we were slashing away and using fire bombs.... which apparently actually did kill him as it would crash our games as him actuallying dying isnt supposed to happen so then we had to go back and find him again

  • @coopers-rum definitly a game issue not a windows issue. this is the only game i have ever seen flood volume mixer every time i join a new session. i think its due to how the game handles voice chat or something. it only happens when leaving a crew back to the main menu then joining a new session. you have to close the game to wipe the volume mixer then when you relaunch its just 1 instance listed again. its like every time you join a new session its creating a new session specifical audio line. literally no other game has done this.

    1. When teammate leaving, current weapon plays reequip animation and ammo gets refilled for both guns.
  • @coopers-rum if you remove the monkey island blackscreen spot it just requires more game knowledge to know a unique blackscreen spot for every outpost, having the opposite effect that you want out of removing it

    That was their way of fixing the issue that you got tp'd to the center of the map when grabbing ladders while reeling in :p

    The bug can't happen if they just disable interactions entirely 😊

  • @captain-knyt Classic Rare. Can't fix a bug so they just technically disable it. Long dogs when you take fall damage? They still get long for a second, and then the game forces you to drop them.

    Perhaps move the return place from the ship to the Ferry, so there is a delay of 20-30 seconds, nullifying mostly the advantage people have who do it on purpose.

  • The ones I get regularly:
    1 (arm loads after a second or so), 4, 6, 10, 12 (Ferry fixes this), 23, 27.

    13 seems intentional for this Season, though I wish they'd tone it down a tad.
    15 has been a known issue since the start of the year and really should have been fixed by now.

    A lot of these seem like memory issues, so I'm hoping the loading optimisations they are working on will help in these areas as well.

    Honestly, this is actually a genius idea.

  • @coopers-rum if you want an example of rare trying to narrow down the amount of blackscreen spots just try swimming around in the pirate legend tavern, there are invisible blocks on every piece of wood to stop you from blackscreening, yet you can still find blackscreen spots despite the effort. It's not possible to get rid of them all

  • @lem0n-curry that would be very infuriating, when the game basically 'kills' you at random times, it's not unheard of to blackscreen midcombat. Letting go on a galleon ladder will get you blackscreened if it's too tilted, and using a horn of fair winds on someone into a corner can blackscreen them. You would be getting punished for doing nothing wrong.

    It's already a mild annoyance to get blackscreened now, but imagine if it caused you to sink because you stepped on a rock the wrong way

    If you're sunk because you stepped on a rock the wrong way, you probably would be too late to safe your ship if you'd have to swim to your mermaid anyway.

    Obviously, I'd rather they fix the black screen spots, but what's would be the ratio of getting blackscreened by the scenarios you listed and the purposefully blackscreen to your ship ? I suspect the latter happens more often and those give an unfair advantage as the designed way to get back to your ship when it's out of range is the mermaid.

    Right, but contineously patching those that are most consistent and actively used by community a way to go.
    Its a process, not a single patch thing.

    Also, in pirate legends hideout they put invisible walls not to stop you from blackscreens, but to stop you from going to guardians place and out of bounds.

  • I don't know if this was intentional by Rare or if it's a bug, but two days ago the following happened: I was sailing a Streak 4 in Hourglass when the ancient, dreaded Redmaw suddenly appeared next to me. So far, nothing too serious. But when it attacked, my ship was catapulted about 10 meters into the air and ended up upside down in the water. The hull was above water, and it refused to right itself. I couldn't swim into the ship because it was upside down, so there was nothing I could do but watch it sink.

  • @coopers-rum assuming you are an xbox user only as well. so just because a bug doesnt impact you or consoles and is only a windows related bug doesnt mean its not a game specific bug. whatever platform you play on shouldnt matter. for all you know this is actually happening on all console builds too just consoles dont have a volume mixer anyone would ever pull up to look at like you can do on windows... its almost 100% something thats happening on xbox too as xbox is just a weaker hardware windows pc these days. like most windows users wouldnt ever notice the volume mixer issue because not many people touch that. they just play the game. the multiple entries doesnt impact anything that i can tell.... it cant be a good thing that its happening but i dont think its causing any crashing or ill effects that are noticeable. and outside of streamers i dont think theres as many people backing out to the menu and loading into new servers 30+ times a day without closing the whole game down which would reset it to 1 instance
