Buff the Cutlass

  • The last time I made this thread a mod locked it because they misinterpreted me saying that a comment I made was a joke to mean that I was saying the whole thread was a joke. I am serious about this.

With the upcoming addition of quickswap being given to all players, I think it's time we look back at another skill based mechanic for the sword. Being able to hit the sword on the ground to start a combo. Not only does it take skill because you have to look away from your opponent for a portion of a second, but it also reduces the overall amount of damage you can do in a combo. If you use your first hit on the ground to start the combo, you can only do 50 damage per combo. The other reason it requires skill is because you need to time it very tightly so that your second swing actually hits. I think the second swing hitting the ground should cancel the combo, so you can't just sword spam at the floor to keep people away and have infinite combos.

Adding this back to the sword would make the swordplay even smoother in my opinion.

  • @potatosord I'm all for some Cutlass adjustments to see it brought back to light in higher level gameplay, but I don't think this is the right path to go. This not only seems to reward pretty minimal value, but also rewards inaccuracy, intentional or not. Why would I want to do 50 damage and intentionally miss when I can hit all 3 swings to deal the full amount?

If anything, I think sword lunge and the slash speeds need to be looked at and improved, the damage seems fine to me. If guns are getting speed improvements, and the sword's speed was already lacking, I don't see why it can't be increased to help it keep up with gunplay

  • Also, some adjustments and maybe even additions to Cutlass V Cutlass would make me super interested in running the Sword again. I honestly think it looks drippier than the guns, but I just prefer the feeling, range, and versatility that the Pistol & Eye of the Reach has

  • @potatosord just remove the regular lunge and replace it with the block-lunge, there's zero reason they haven't done this yet, and it's a change with similar reasoning to the swap change

  • @captain-knyt It's weird that they don't add that because nothing stops anyone from doing it. You literally just press one extra button. Maybe the simplicity of it is enough to make the devs not feel that it should be added. I do prefer having choice over not though, so maybe there is at least one good reason they don't do it.

  • Honestly nerf the sword. It be needin' a diminishin' return from stun from all sources. 3 swords on ye? Not allowed to move, food reg. Sword spam wrecks sweaty TDM'ers that camp and snipe me. I know cause I be usin' it against them tryin' to camp me and they hate it and yell at me for bein' a high level skele curse with a sword which is hilarious. The stun should have a diminishin' return so the stun can't just repeatidly wreck. It also stacks with multiple swords. So OP.

  • @skelcurseirl The sword needs the stun to be able to actually use it, otherwise people can just sprint away and since the sword has a very limited range and you can't use it while sprinting, it quickly becomes useless.

And if you come in close combat with 2 sword users, you made a huge tactical blunder. Don't blame others (by claiming the sword is to strong) for your own mistake (getting in close combat with 2 players that carry close combat weapons). That is about the same as running in open terrain against someone with EoR and then claiming the EoR's range is OP and to blame for you not able to win...

  • @super87ghost

The sword needs the stun to be able to actually use it, otherwise people can just sprint away and since the sword has a very limited range and you can't use it while sprinting, it quickly becomes useless.

This would only be true if your second weapon slot was locked and you were forced to use only the sword.

It's not, if someone sprints away you should use your brain and swap to your secondary instead of spamming M1.

And if you come in close combat with 2 sword users, you made a huge tactical blunder.

Not really, this would be true if you're facing bots. In a real fight against actual good players who are using swords, there are gonna be times where you have to let them get close. (Climbing, grabbing ammo, bucketing, grabbing food).

The only thing that stops the sword from being seen as broken, is that 90% of the people that use it are bad at every other area of the game.

  • Sword is THE most broken weapon in the game and absolutely does not need a buff

  • Are we calling left clicking three times a “combo” now? 😂

  • I think I would prefer

    1. dropping the combo damage of pistol sniper to 95,
    2. allow a sword block to reduce the number of pellets that hit (max reduction 2) so a well timed block will reduce damage.
    3. scale blunder knock back to number of hits. 1-2 stun no knock back, 3-4 short knock back, 5-6 mid , 7-9 current knock back.
  • Why are people still posting in the rage bait thread.

  • As this has just devolved into childish bickering, the Thread has been locked.
