Allow the use of captained ships in Safer Seas

  • I have a suggestion for Safer Seas that I think would greatly improve the Safer Seas experience for new players who are trying to learn the basics of how to play Sea Of Thieves.

As we all know one of the most basic things in Sea Of Thieves that every player NEEDS to know is how to sell loot to the sovereign while sailing on a captained ship, and players in Safer Seas absolutely NEED to learn this before they start playing in High Seas as it's by far the single most important thing for High Seas as trying to sell loot to anyone besides the sovereign is a GUARANTEED death sentence in High Seas.

Because of this players in Safer Seas absolutely NEED to be able to purchase a captained ship and be allowed to use that captained ship in Safer Seas, however with the restrictions that they aren't able to earn ANYTHING captaincy related while playing in Safer Seas.

This means ANYTHING and everything captaincy related (ship milestones, commendations, trinkets, decorations, etc.) that can be earned in High Seas will NOT be earnable or obtainable whatsoever in Safer Seas.

The only thing that players will be able to do with their captained ships while using them in Safer Seas is sell loot to the sovereign, purchase captained ship supplies from the shipwright, repair damage done to their ship from the shipwright, and be able to save cosmetics to their captained ship.

These are obviously only the basics and that's exactly why that's all that would be allowed in Safer Seas, just the basics. Because every player NEEDS to know how to properly use these things before jumping into High Seas because if you don't know any of this stuff before jumping into High Seas you're gonna end up with new players getting screwed over because they're trying to sell their loot to each of the individual NPCs at the outposts because they don't realize they can sell all of their loot to the sovereign because Safer Seas (aka the extended tutorial for the game) didn't teach them how to like it should have (this btw is still very much a problem in Sea Of Thieves and the most common thing I find myself having to teach new players is how to sell loot to the sovereign because Safer Seas doesn't teach them how to like it should).

I'm going to make this very clear so anyone reading this post will fully understand this. In no way whatsoever would this change to Safer Seas be bringing the rewards and activities available in Safer Seas more in line with the rewards and activities available in High Seas. This change has absolutely no affect whatsoever on the amount of gold, doubloons, or reputation earned in Safer Seas. This would only serve as a tutorial to teach new players how to properly use their captained ships in a safe environment that's free from the dangers that are present in High Seas.

Given that this change wouldn't in any way be bringing Safer Seas more in line with High Seas I personally see no reason why the use of captained ships shouldn't be added to Safer Seas. It would only be allowing new players to be able to properly learn how to use all of the basic functions of their captained ships in a safe environment free from the risks and dangers that are present in High Seas.

Now I know that suggesting changes to Safer Seas is highly frowned upon in the forums, but I have clearly explained that the change that I am suggesting would in no way whatsoever bring Safer Seas more in line with High Seas and would only serve as a tutorial allowing new players to be able to learn how to properly use a captained ship in a safe environment.

Therefore I see absolutely no reason why the usage of captained ships in Safer Seas shouldn't be in the game and if you can think of any valid reason for the usage of captained ships to not be allowed in Safer Seas (and no because you can sell your loot slightly faster is not a valid reason because you're still earning the exact same amount of money and reputation selling to the sovereign as you would selling to the individual NPCs) please reply to this post giving your reasoning for why captained ships shouldn't be allowed in Safer Seas.

  • Yes! Thank you to whoever made this post! I've been trying to suggest this very thing for quite some time now and you managed to do so absolutely flawlessly! You've got my upvote XD

  • @m1ke-da-1ke
So um... now you're making alts to post SS topics? 😂

Mods should check validity of this. Waaaay too similar formatting and phrasing lol.

    Hey Mike 2.

To keep it short and sweet for your suggestion - big old nope.

Reasoning - check previous 20 topics just from Mike 1. 😂 Let alone all the others. Search and see. Plenty of feedback from all of us.

  • The only thing that players will be able to do with their captained ships while using them in Safer Seas is sell loot to the sovereign

You have no reason to do this. The sovereign is there for fast sell. Case you are in a chase. Since your SS no threats.

  • The game design and intent for Sea of Thieves is a shared world adventure, and it always will be. Those who wish to play in the confines of Safer Seas will always have the option but we will not bring the rewards and activities in line with those of High Seas when many of the restrictions are in place due to the risk vs reward factor that is inherent in Sea of Thieves - removing any risk means rewards must be balanced accordingly.

Safer Seas will act not only as a safe space for our Tall Tale players but also for families with children who just want to pirate, for people who want to play the game but learn the ropes and it will organically feed into Adventure mode, keeping the player pool there healthy and upskilled as they've learned the mechanics.

This is not only useful for new players but also families and players with accessibility needs - the whole game suddenly becomes available in a way it hasn't before, letting them naturally progress to High Seas and become a Pirate Legend. SoT has grown a huge amount in 5 years and it can be fairly overwhelming.

The borders put in Safer Seas mean that to experience the full depth and breadth of the game you will have to hit the high seas BUT if you're playing with your family you don't have to, you can just enjoy the game and have fun as a family.

    Dropping anchor here.
