Is funny launching still bannable?

  • I haven't played in a long time. Some guy was doing it and told me its not bannable.

  • @darkechoes6494 Rule of the thumb: If in doubt, don't do it.

  • Not banning and not bannable are two very different things.

They do whatever they do with enforcement but using exploits in an online game as a competitive advantage does go against ToS.

It'll lead to more reports and reports are reviewed, just not a good idea to do it.

Just remember, if it ever leads to trouble it will be put on the player. Any inconsistent messaging/enforcement won't matter, what a player does is what can be used against them when their conduct/gameplay is reviewed in a report.

Not fair play and is always a risk.

  • @metal-ravage i dont want to do it. I just know every time there was a way to do it, rare was banning people for doing it against other players. This person told me theres a VOD that says its not bannable which has me curios because its an obvious exploit that should be bannable. I havent played this game since they added HG

  • @darkechoes6494 There is a very, VERY slight chance you do it 'by accident'.

As already mentioned....if you don't want to find out....don't do it.

I don't suggest using it, but SoT partners use it on stream, and I'm guessing it's a feature and not an exploit.

I don't watch much partner content these days so I only see something here or hear something there, but as far as I know it goes against whatever agreement they enter in to. Competitive advantages through exploits/unintended stuff is strongly discouraged.

There are many partner cliques that I've never been around so I'm not saying it doesn't happen but the vibe that I've always picked up is that they avoid doing it (at least while streaming the game).

At the end of the day Rare looks out for Rare and influencers look out for themselves. People should look out for themselves as well and not buy into any conduct or messaging that suggests it's alright.

Nobody that is being responsible with their power/influence is ever gonna suggest that it's ok to engage in gameplay that isn't fair play. If people ever get banned nobody is gonna take accountability for their bad takes that they were/are pushin'.

I don't disagree, and yeah no one's going take accountability. However if an opponent is using the funny launch against you, fair play would be countering them with it. I don't use it or suggest using it, but just to be devils advocate.

There are definitely different levels of negative impact from it.

2 big ships exploiting against each other is not anywhere near as negatively impactful as big boats doing it to sloops/solos (which happens a lot).

The issue in SoT with exploits is that people dismiss the negative impact of what they personally like and they justify things because their friends do it or because some influencer said something about something. See this all the time with major pve and pvp exploits.

At the very least it's always a risk and it's always a violation of fair play to do it against smaller crews and less experienced crews in random scenarios.

Inconsistency with principles of fairness erodes the quality of the experience for people that we need to participate. Without the new players and inexperienced players and casual adventure players this game is nothing. Retention suffers with all this nonsense that slides in SoT.

and they added an OP harpoon for cheesy boards, nobody should be risking enforcement/drama/trouble when they added it to the game in another way anyway.

I'm not so sure about that. SoT partners seem to get away with a LOT of stuff that would land a regular player in trouble.

I've seen SoT partners give lessons in how to use the ladder launch, how to animation cancel etc... and I've seen more than one big streamer use automated scripts (guy literally stood away from his controls while his character was still rowing).

None of the SoT partners I have seen doing these things have faced any consequences for it.

Anything a partner or any SoT content creator/streamer gets away with is typically more about people ToS dancing between platforms. Rare doesn't control twitch or youtube, etc. So some people use that to their advantage while in the SoT community.

I do think that streaming in general is one of the most entitled designs in entertainment. The "protect the streamer" thing from the rules to the audience is just flat out silly and ridiculous but there are lots of people around SoT that aren't being protected and get away with all kinds of stuff, out in the open.

In general it's more of a case of a lot of people get away with a lot and then when people get in trouble it's a lot of "I didn't do anything bad" or "someone else is worse".

Streamers/partners need SoT more than Rare needs streamers so the protection thing never really makes much sense. That doesn't mean it's all clean but streamers don't have as much pull as people think. Influence yes, do they get catered to? yes. But they aren't running the show, not really.

Also gotta keep in mind that people from Rare aren't just sitting there watching an entire group of partners play the game for 10 hours every day. Stuff is gonna get lost in mountains of footage. Not everything is gonna get reported, etc. Only regular viewers are watching that much.
