[STEAM] [WINDOWS 11] LavenderBeard error on launch, then becomes CyanBeard error

  • I bought the game on Steam since it was on sale. I sometimes get "LavenderBeard" when I first try to log in, and when I click "Play" after being logged in it always becomes "CyanBeard". I have tried the following troubleshooting methods.

    1. Verifying the files via Steam (I did this a couple times)

    2. Log in, log out, re-log in. (I did this many times as well)

    3. Using DNS to help connect to the servers. (Xbox Support gave me some random ones)

    4. Uninstalling and then reinstalling.

    5. Adding Inbound and Outbound Rules to my Firewall that allows me to connect to the Sea of Thieves Steam servers better (Both TDP and UDP rules, found here: https://www.seaofthieves.com/community/forums/topic/138462/constantly-getting-cyanbeard-on-steam/5)

To make the problem more clear, I sometimes get "LavenderBeard", but no matter what I always end up getting "CyanBeard"

I am playing on a desktop machine running Windows 11, up to date.

Anyone who can help is appreciated.

  • @justarkzy did you just buy it today and are having this issue because I’m on Xbox and have been getting Strawberrybeard and Lavendarbeard today. Plus this website and forum have been randomly unreachable for the past 24-48 hours for me. So if you just got it it might be related to what is happening to me as well.

  • @abjectarity I bought it late at night on Feb. 17th, when I woke up the next day (Feb. 18th) I downloaded it and tried playing and it didn't work, I've tried again today (Feb. 19th) and still no luck. I also had issues with trying to reach the support website for some reason. I have no clue what is going on and nothing seems to fix my problem.

  • @justarkzy try submitting a ticket but also try back tomorrow after the update. We get a new season tomorrow and so the servers will be down for maintenance and you’ll need to update. Hopefully once it is back online you won’t have any more issues, but if you are here is the link to start a support request https://support.seaofthieves.com/requests/new

  • @abjectarity I did make a ticket, I probably should've mentioned that in my post. Hopefully it is fixed by the time the new season drops. Thank you for your assistance though.

  • Trying it now after updating, still happening. CyanBeard error.

Updating to add what I've tried now.

    1. Port Forwarding Xbox Network ports on my router.
  • I unlinked my Steam on the Xbox app, and then disabled and re-enabled my Steam overlay and it let me play, but asks me to log in every time I launch.

  • I've been running into the same problem. I switched over from game pass to steam. On initial log-in I get lavenderbeard. Then it's repeated cyanbeards. I've tried the same list of fixes as you.

  • @d4rth-l0fus Yeah I played on Gamepass prior, it just kinda ended up randomly working after I made sure Medal was not running (quit from tray or end task), I unlinked my Steam social from Xbox app, and then I disabled and re-enabled Steam overlay, it then prompted me to link the accounts in a Steam overlay window. Now I just have to log in every time. I tested it on a different machine (never played Sea of Thieves on Game Pass on this one) and it worked perfectly fine. Logged in, stayed logged in after exiting the game, and loaded properly.

  • I was having this problem for the past 3 days, tried literally everything I could think of, even messed with the router for 2 hours. Turns out all I had to do was unlink steam from the xbox app and link it again. (First time playing the game on steam too, after playing on game pass). I think my steam account was linked wrong or something, since it showed an older username instead of the current one.
