Gyro Aim Implementation for controllers

  • So recently, I bought a Playstation 5 and pre-ordered a copy of Sea of Thieves on it and was determined to join in on the Playstation servers.

But when I started playing, I realized that the game does not seem to have Gyro Aim (ie. moving the controller itself to aim) and it made playing on a controller to be a bit harder to aim at enemies.

I know most people on console wouldn't be bothered by it, but from someone who are used to Gyro Aim on Nintendo Switch (cough**coughSplatooncough), I do wish that rare could implement it in some form.

Xbox will have to upgrade their controller so they have motion sensors inside of them to keep up with both Playstation and Nintendo. Honestly its a bit surprising that they don't have this yet considering having gyro aim could really help with leveling the playing field against keyboard+mouse. Heck if you are good with it, it could possibly be better than kb+m too.

The best way to visualize this is to compare aiming with a mouse VS aiming with the arrow/movement keys.

Aiming with the arrow key is viable, but it is stiff and is not really effective at precise controls on its own especially if we do not factor in movement mechanics.

Aiming on the mouse on the other hand are way smoother and you can quickly snap into whatever it is you are aiming or perform precise movements by itself.

The same reasoning can also be applied with stick controls VS Gyro controls.
