Rare fish types seem impossible to catch.

  • I’m in a session right now fishing with the correct bait. I’ve casted my line over 200 times. The one, singular time a rare fish type spawned it was a stupid umber splashtail.

    Rare devs are eeeeeeeeevillllllll!

No wonder why I detest fishing in this game.

    The rng is rage inducing.

Don’t get me started on how quickly nighttime comes and goes (9 mins) and maybe if you’re lucky having time to catch 1-4 nighttime fish types before having to wait another 15 mins til it’s night again.

Then occasionally fish spawn and just swim around for 30+ seconds before they bite.

I truly hate fishing in Sea of Thieves. Seems like torture and a massive waste of time.

Using the correct bait should result in a very high chance of getting a fish type that favors that bait.

Fishing at night should result in a very high chance of getting a nighttime fish type.

And rare fish types shouldn’t require several hundred casts to find.

Respect your players time. Holy cow @RareLTD

  • 98% for 2 years now. 😂

  • Also have to mention MOST of that is Shipwreck barrel loot.

  • I like fishing irl, generally cannot stand it in video games, reminds me of a chore.

There is really nothing they could do to make it appealing to me but my preference shouldn't take away from the significance for those that enjoy it and those that put in the grind.

I largely used shipwrecks as a resource for legendary hunter and I'm on the 10,000 year plan with milestones, one random commendation/event at a time.

"Umber Splashtails require no Bait to catch."

No wonder why I detest fishing in this game.

It like real fishing. Your never gonna catch the fish you really want until the moment happens. and when it does, you Cook that fish and make a straight sail to a seapost!!

Don’t get me started on how quickly nighttime comes and goes (9 mins)

not really. 24min is both day and night. 9min of daylight and 15min of night seems a little..off.

Then occasionally fish spawn and just swim around for 30+ seconds before they bite.

Really? Ive had mine bite within 5-10 seconds

Using the correct bait should result in a very high chance of getting a fish type that favors that bait.

    See above...

truly hate fishing in Sea of Thieves. Seems like torture and a massive waste of time.

    Then....stop?
Your making it a chore, when it more of a passtime.

And rare fish types shouldn’t require several hundred casts to find.

That is how they should. Heck you might get lucky and it be your first cast of the day :P

    Respect your players time.

You dont seem to respect your own time.

  • Terrible rng, terrible profitability, massive time sink = not fun

Plus there is no skill based element at all to speed up the process of catching fish.

Imagine if when a fish decides to stop pulling one direction and starts to head another direction there is temporarily slack in the line going from all the way to the left to all the way to the right.

Or if the fish decides to go from pulling away from the player to pulling to either side there is temporarily slack in the line.

During this time when the fish is switching directions it creates some slack in the line, players could quickly react by reeling in the slack.

Right now if you try to do this the fish doesn’t reel in. You’re just forced to wait until it tires to be able to reel it in.

This would be in addition to the progress you get from reeling the fish in once they temporarily tire after successfully fighting them.

This would allow players with skill/good reaction times to catch fish faster than just waiting for the fish to tire and then reel.

Right now fish swim lighting fast during transitions from pulling side to side or from pulling away to a side. This speed could be slowed a little bit to give players a better chance of reacting to this new temporary slack when fish switch directions.

Players could also create their own temporary slack to reel in by fighting the fish correctly (angling the rod in the opposite direction of where the fish is pulling) and simultaneously reeling in and then briefly letting go of the stick and back to angling the rod in the correct direction before the line snaps. Rinse and repeat just like in real fishing.

Make fishing have some skill based ways to speed up the catch.

While I don't agree with most of the points that OP made (I happen to enjoy fishing in this game and have spent many game sessions over the years doing just that. To the point that fully half of my 13 ships have the Legendary Hunter title unlocked.

However, they do happen to be right about the day/night cycle. It's proven fact in-game that the night-time variant of each fish species only spawns between 10:30 pm and 7:00 am on your pocket watch every in-game day. That's only eight and a half minutes, real time.

It's not an even 12 minutes from sunrise to sunset and then another 12 from sunset to sunrise in-game.

Fishing is not enjoyable at all. You have to be really bad at all other parts of the game to enjoy fishing in SoT as it is.

Terrible rng, terrible profitably and massive time sink = not fun.

Very simple. But then again your takes are generally backwards.

I can’t wait til we get chase cannons and you get so bothered by it.

What other logical counter to running is there?

  • @meekkitten64978

Not enjoyable at all to you, perhaps. You do not and never will speak for the playerbase as a whole. A playerbase who, based just off the repeated requests in these forums for expanded stuff to do for the Hunter's Call, seems to understand how fishing works just fine instead of throwing a tantrum because they're entitled and not handed stuff on a silver platter.

This is your opinion. Not fact. Which is an actual very simple concept, not just a subjective statement incorrectly applied to everyone based on your own personal views like you've done twice now in this thread.

But since (based on your original post) you clearly can't master the relatively simple process that is fishing in this game, maybe ALL simple concepts escape you. Just like the rare fish appparently do! 😆

Since you wanna resort to ad hominem attacks beacuse I had the audacity to disagree with you, I'll leave you to your long wait for a train that won't come on your chase cannons, scooter.

Ironic, since the point of my post was defending your (only) correct observation regarding the limited time night fish are available.

Good luck getting them to completely overhaul a basic system that's been in place for five of the six years the game's been in existence and my nine-year-old nephew has completely mastered the intricacies of. Maybe you can get as good as him someday since you have to be really bad at other parts of the game if fishing in SoT gives you this much trouble... 😏

All that reply was a big nothing-burger. Not surprising.

Post your own feedback and suggestions I can’t wait to read them.

Last topic by you 6 months ago. I’ve created 10+ topics per month.

You’re just a critic that never wants to see the game change or evolve.

To bad it’s a live service game and is constantly changing and evolving.
