Mark my words and remember this well. When the safer seas mode comes out in December (lets be fair though being rare it will probably be March) there will be a major issue that pops up within the first week where Pc players (because the Xbox one and Series consoles have not been modded yet and the security has not been cracked) manage to get themselves into a Safer seas session that is private to another crew. They will do this grief just like they have been exploiting their way into Xbox only sessions.
The issue with this game being cross play from the get go is they will ALWAYS find a way around anti cheat, even if Rare had one. This idea of making it cross play from the beginning is what has killed the game. If they made it two separate games Sea of thieves and Sea of thieves PC this would of never been an issue. But since people can find a way to work around the OPT out or in the future SAFER SEA sessions because the game has that mechanic built into it. They will find a way.
This post will likely get banned and or Downvoted depending on where it is posted, but this is only because its true and the truth HURTS.
Remember this come the first reports of random people in PRIVATE SERVERS.
Safer seas of PCEE
New players and non fighters rarely even see cheaters now as the game exists. Many never see them.
The whole narrative that has been building that cheating is some major thing driving out new players/casuals/non fighting players is not supported by anything really.
People getting wrecked over and over when they have no experience has always been what discourages people because not everyone is built for that in general, especially a game, and a game like this.
I see content creators spread the narrative around and it's just incredibly out of touch with the organic environment and reality of the new/inexperienced player's experience.

I have never understood this - the main reason XBox players have issues is that the game is basically unplayable competitively with a controller... - BUT - it's trivially easy to use a keyboard and mouse with your XBox!
There's literally no reason for XBox players to suffer other than they choose to use the worst controls possible.
He's saying that PC players will be able to get into the new Safer Seas server. Which is a 1 ship setup.
This has nothing to do with kb/m v controller or the current console preferred option.

There are no xbox only servers though, correct? It's "controller preferred" versus m/k, but not guaranteed. I could be wrong but that's what I always thought.

Ah. I've played on xbox but m/k a few times, there is no option for those servers. The game detects the m/k and you're locked in. So it's both, gotcha.
The options are those that are on Console AND using Controller can opt into a preference of joining with other Console AND Controller players.
As already mentioned, it is a preference and not a guarantee.
That being said, Safe Seas will be a single-ship/crew only. AFAIK there are no restrictions based on platform or input preferences.
As this thread appears to be taking shots at a portion of the player base, I'll be dropping anchor here.
