player jumped on my boat and killed me while i was underwater in hourglass

  • so I was qued in hourglass waiting for a fight. as soon as i matched and my boat began to rise (still underwater) a player appeared on my boat and instantly killed me with blunder. my boat hadn't surfaced yet! He then told me he "Summoned" holes onto my boat and my boat sank in around 10 seconds (it had barely surfaced at this point. I did report the player, but unfortunately did not get video. I'm looking at how i can use game bar to start recording my sessions. this was insane

  • nvidia has some recording software that works so much better than gamebar recording

in my experience gamebar was always laggy and would often have issues with recording

nvidia recording runs better, records better, and has far more options

I record 6 and a half minutes with less issues on nvidia than 1 minute clips were giving me with gamebar

  • @wolfmanbush Nice, I do have an nvidia graphics card too. I remember gambar had some sort of feature to record the last 30 seconds of gameplay, but i think it has to be enabled (mine apparently was not). I want to help Rare ban shady players, as cheaters can spoil the game. I actually gasped when i saw the player appear and i was still underwater, totally unexpected

    Whoa that's a new one!
Not to encourage the acts but some of these are pretty devious...

You can hold the capture button on series s/x controllers for the usual 30 seconds capture. Don't quote me but I think it works on x1 too?

Record and report as best you can.

  • @gunnner1 even if you didn’t catch the footage, still raise the ticket to report the player and tell Rare to check their Xbox profile, there’s a good chance it has low gamerscore and it’s highly suspicious. Be honest you didn’t grab the footage but explain what happened and Rare will hopefully investigate.

I agree, very devious. I actually froze for a second trying to figure out how it happened. I want to help document these guys and their cheats, so yea, I'll be recording while playing from now on!

  • Not a doubt.

    This was a cheater.

    Report them! https://support.seaofthieves.com/hc/en-gb/requests/new

  • @personalc0ffee Thanks for the link! I reported

  • @gunnner1 wait. you were in queue for a match and someone spawns there or in emerging you have founded someone ? because i can think that maybe he was in water right where your ship is spawned, but i think that could be very weird, or a super skills, or a super luck, or a super hack.

maybe the holes are caused by some enviroment? if you are dead before emerging completely, maybe you have not seen where you were spawned, maybe in front of a rock, and that's help the theory of someone waiting for you in water

    but i repeat, that's a lot weird

    No, it was a cheater.

  • Realistically they will close ticket as insufficient evidence. I don't know if they keep logs of reported players to add any weight to future reports. The generic responses imply otherwise

Imo when it comes to very obvious cheating and the more serious ToS violations it's worth it for the people that report to keep reporting imo, even if it doesn't lead to consequences with their specific report.

I'm critical of the social games around reporting in this game and the low accountability for accusations but anyone that is reporting obvious cheating and serious ToS violations (without escalating themselves) is getting helpful data to Rare imo.

Even if it's not proof it's evidence and it may help build cases against serious misconduct. It might feel discouraging but in serious cases people would be providing a service to the community and environment.

  • @wolfmanbush yeah I mean I've reported even when technically no evidence on principle but just giving them a pragmatic heads up. I have when had people banned had the message 'based on reports from you and others' but I don't know if that implies that they wouldn't have taken action from either one of reports individually

for cheating specifically it might really help them at some point hit main accounts which would go a long way with cheating. The more data they have as they keep trying to really cut down on ban evasions the more effective they can be with enforcement.

This is what I was thinking, they were on defense and waiting in the water at the spot you would spawn which defenders have become notoriously good at predicting.

It's possible because the battle technically starts a few seconds before you surface, it is at the moment you can move after being frozen.

Reason #5409876353049678 why having the matches in adventure mode was dumb.

  • @gunnner1 I as well have had this happen to me. Befor even surfacing the player (most likely banned and on a alt account) has double gunned you dead without a fighting chance. There is more and more cheating happening and hopefully an anticheat is on its way in. OR if Rare wanted, they can lock HG behind requirements like PL so that people arn't just making new accounts every 15sec. I would love to make these banned players and hackers at least work a lil. Somthing they clearly don't like. :)

  • @bvrn1 PL would just reduce participation which is already low.

The day they decided to put this feature in Adventure was they day they doomed the feature. Defenders rig the battle in all sorts of ways.

    • You surface facing a rock
    • You surface and have to fight an Alliance
    • You surface in a storm (Fixed)
    • You surface in a phantom ship battle
    • You surface in fog, facing a rock
    • You surface under the guns of a sea fort or island

    etc, etc, etc...

Also they created a math issue, because defenders can't fight defenders and defenders have a 20 minute limit, there has to be divers or the queue fails.

IMHO they need to make the designers go play several MMOs to learn some basics of multiplayer games. The fact that we don't have guilds is another example of failed design. PuG grouping blows chunks.

  • Them being on your ship before you can even move is definitely a hack, had it happen to me multiple times, even have had it happen where my team was still in black screen and we heard the crackling mic of the person and as soon as we got a visual our ship was flying at about mach 3.

Funny thing about that last example was we never saw the player and xbox recently played with is as useful as a raindrop in a leaky bucket

  • @foambreaker i am of the idea that both of he ships have to dive. to reach a third, separated area, a sort of "no man's land" where no one have advantages of choosing the area, or at least it should have a sort of rule like "you have to stay in the ship for making the battle begins". once match we fought (and won) was in the devils in full volcano erupting. Yeah was epic the scenario, but to play, unpleasant as hell

  • @gunnner1 good, ur a pure L farmer and im glad this has happened to you.

Ouch. I admit, after putting my everything into fighting and still getting sunk 6 times in a row, I did purposely sail out on some matches out of frustration. I wouldn't call myself a loss farmer and I also wouldn't wish other players coming across cheaters

  • Hacking scummmers

  • honestly this game has 10,000 players a day worldwide i think that do nothing for cheaters because otherwise their games would go down the drain like our boats currently sadly come up the whole forum looking at the posts at this subject, the team doesn't care about all that, it doesn't matter as long as you keep playing and buying the skins, it's fine instead of doing mysteries so work on an anticheat and you'll see you even more people who will come to play and the cheaters will buy your games as they do on other games

I have no issue with substantive criticisms but I don't get the "they don't care about cheating" narrative at all, or the "don't do other stuff until cheating is fixed"

Cheating in no way benefits them in a game like this, they are heavily involved in content creation, they don't have any interest in seeing content creators in their game advertising their product with a bunch of anything negative, including cheating, including game performance issues. It's not good for business.

Cheating will be an issue in an online game for the entire life of the game, it's not always high, it's not always blatant, it's not always the main focus of the community but it's always around in some form. Can't just not move forward because the inevitable exists.

Nothing moves faster or is more productive by allowing reasonable and understandable frustrations to turn into unreasonable and inaccurate narratives.
