Ahoy fellow pirates! Let me regale you with a tale of our latest adventure on the high seas.
We were sailing on our trusty ship, the Kraken's Fury, when our lookout spotted a notorious vessel on the horizon. As we got closer, we realized it was not just any ship - it was the feared Death's Gambit, captained by the infamous Blackbeard himself!
But we were not deterred. We readied our cannons and prepared for battle, eager to claim the bounty on the Death's Gambit. The clash was fierce, with cannonballs flying and swords clashing. But in the end, our crew emerged victorious and the Death's Gambit sank beneath the waves.
As we basked in our triumph, a new idea began to form in my mind. What if every ship on the seas had a notoriety value that increased with each ship they sank, and a bounty placed upon their heads for others to claim? And thus, the idea for a new PvP system was born - one that would spice up the seas and add an extra layer of excitement to our pirate adventures.
Basic idea:
Each ship with a captain gets a notoriety value indicating how infamous the ship is. Notoriety is earned by sinking ships. Infamous ships earn more notoriety. When a ship is sunk, its notoriety decreases. Additionally, a bounty is placed on ships with high notoriety that can be earned by sinking them. Similar to the emissary system, rewards such as ship skins, weapons skins, etc. are given for high notoriety.
Details:
- If a ship is sunk by another ship, the winner earns 100 notoriety if it flies a emessary flag plus 25% of the notoriety of the sunken ship. The sunken ship loses 25% of its notoriety. (Notoriety changes are immediate)
- Like the emissary system for players, there are three ranks of notoriety for ships.
++ The easiest rank is Brigand. A Brigand ship has a bounty of 5000 gold.
++The second rank is Privateer. A Privateer ship has a bounty of 15000 gold, and if a Privateer is active on the server, a wanted poster with the ship's name is displayed in the tavern or on the blackboard for all players to see.
++ The highest rank is Reaver. A Reaver ship has a bounty of 25000 gold, a wanted poster is displayed, and the Reaver's position is visible on the map for all players. - To collect the bounty for a ship, players must deliver the (currently rather worthless) ship's logbook to the Stranger in the tavern or at the Reaper Outpost.
- Bounties are modified by the Reaper Flag and Athena Flag bonuses.
- At the end of each month, rewards are given for notoriety ranks, just like the rewards for the emissary system.
- At the end of each month, each ship loses 75% of its notoriety. This means that notoriety decreases quickly if not actively maintained, but ranks are retained for the following month, and the bounty hunt can continue uninterrupted.
- In addition, there are cool ship curses for the ranks, similar to player curses. However, ship curses can only be equipped as long as the ship has the rank. If a ship loses its rank, the ability to equip the curse is also lost. (Suggestions for ship curses: sailing through a dark fog bank, flames covering the hull, a ghostly glow on the hull.)
- The notoriety system is not optional. There is no way to opt-out or similar. PvE players also have no way to opt-out of PvP. This is part of Sea of Thieves. So infamous pirates should not be able to "dodge" it. Besides, a truly deserving infamous pirate would not want to do so anyway. (And there is always the option to buy multiple ships if one wants to have one without notoriety.)
