Suggestion to improve leveling a Servants/Guardians faction

  • After experiencing new season for a a month, here is mine feedback.

I’m playing SoT since season 1 was introduced, i have 2k+ hours in this game and I would call myself casual. Per week I normally play 2-3days as Solo/Open crew and one day with friends on a Brig.
As of writing this mine level with Servant is 45, done on solo sloop with little over 50% win ratio and bout 60 sunken ships. With Guardian level 5, working on guardian only with friends on a brig with win ration of only 20%, both of them have 500 hours in game each.
I would like to share experience when playing with friends. So only after a month they don’t want to play PvP anymore.
Reason is that after a month they see how little progress we made and would take us over a year to get first curse. So on that limited time we have together (1day per week) they would rather play PvE or some other game.
For myself i don’t have a problem waiting 3 months to get first course. And half a year to get Guardian as well. Already decided that lvl 1000 curses are out of mine reach and won’t be even going for them.
I think that majority of players are having experience of mine friends who only after a month gave up on playing new PvP. Reason slow progress or matchmaking, I don't want to go into matchmaking I’m sure they are working on fixing that.
I was thinking how to increase leveling to get to lvl 100 curse, and keep even players who are casual to work on it.

    SUGGESTION:
We already have a system when completing a commendation gives a small exp to reputation level.
So for Guardians/Servants factions increase exp so that completing a commendations gives enough exp to give levels in faction.
We have 2 kind of commendations. Commendations with I-V levels and one time commendation.
Commendations with 5 levels should give as much levels as current step is
    I. step gives 1 level in reputation,
    II. gives 2 levels,
    III. gives 3 levels,
    IV. gives 4 levels,
    V. step gives 5 levels.
For one time commendations you can have different values how much they are worth.
Example: Joined forces with Guardians/Servants a simple ones gives 1 level
Allegiance Streak of 5 gives 5 levels.
Or you can make it simpler for development so you don’t have extra table with values for each cementation and make it so that checkmark on commendations gives 5 levels.

Now most commendations are locked and are only available after acquiring first curse of faction.
So there are only few commendations that will help get players to lvl 100 it would take about 60-70 enemy sinks to do that with this system.
I also think that this will keep players play faction longer after they get first curse they will have tons of commendations to play for to help them keep playing that faction longer.
There are only finite numbers of levels you can get from commendations and getting advance lvl 1000 curses will still be a grind accessible to only hardcore players.

When system is implemented it should also give levels to all players who already have acquire commendations.

  • I dont think its a good idea to put progress like that, losing gives you some progress even if you plan to sabotage it. Someone on Reddit did the math and if you plan to get the Level 100 Curse, you need to lose 1.500 Matches. If you want to win the curse and try your best, you'll need to defeat 110+ Ships (No Streak Cheese) or just 90+ (Streak Cheese). The ''Streak Cheese" is to get 2-wins in a row and then deliver your Hourglass, re-do everything again since this method gives a better XP reward than grinding all the way to 4-Streak and lowering at the end.

There's tons of cosmetics that you unlock along the way, why focus on the curse alone tho? There are other curses to chase as well, 90% of the people that have the Level 105 Curse (Legendary) did so by just playing the game during Season 1 (Level 100 Battle-Pass and reaching Level 50 in 3 Factions werent that hard as people bring it up to, since everyone just had the Year-1 Stuff to do, lots of people focused on the basic grinding).

Also, the progress doesnt get harder by the further you go, it seems to be the same amount. 1 Win usually gets a level done, 2-winstreak gives nearly 2 and etc.

  • you guys are insider's I see well i stopped participating as one of them when i Realized RARE doesn't care for what you care or think, however it makes no difference come 2023 they will not be able to compete with all the upcoming advances to the gaming industry if anyone is still battling for curses in 2023 then welcome to boomerhood gaming is taking a huge leap in another direction, and a way better one so if your a true gamer see ya there goodbye Sea of Thieves you had a good run but you didn't listen to what truly mattered most (Your community) and that was your down fall.

  • @kg-dcrofaod what leap? All I see is increases in mobile games and microtransactions. SoT has its issues but its business model is a breath of fresh air amongst most greedy companies out there

I think they got their math wrong so if i check mine pirate milestones I played 132 battles as servant of witch I won 78 what puts me close to 60% win rate. And I’m not even lvl 50. And I’m doing the "Streak Cheese" because with 60% win rate I rather have have little bonus at 2 streak than non at higher streaks. So if leveling is linear that means that it will take me 160 wins to get lvl 100 by doing "cheese streak" and roughly 270 games played. If its linear!

I’m interested to know what other players stat in pirate milestones are and what lvl they are.

Lets say if you have 90% win rate you can have lvl100 with 90sinks and 100 games played.
But in order for someone to have 90% win rate there needs to be players that have 10% win rate. And for them to get to lvl 100 it will take them 150 wins witch means over 1500 games played.
Now lets take average player with 50% win rate that will be more likely 350 games to get to lvl 100.
Lets put this into numbers lets say 20min per match (which is generous) how long it will take to get to 100.
    Win rate - hours
    90% - 34h
    50% - 115h
    10% - 500h

Now lets talk player retention. How many players that see that they will need 500h will stay and play this mode? They will leave you have less players longer waiting times. It true that pool now have more experience players top players win rate goes little down. But also players who were wining against those players that left now are bottom of barrel and they will leave next and cycle continues. Game mode will be losing players overtime anyway but let thy to keep pool bigger by boosting leveling experience to lvl 100. Lets say with suggestion i made at top you can get 50 easy levels by cementations. That will only halve time to 100: so 90% player will get his in 15h, average in 50h and 10% in 200h. How is this to quick? And we all know average battle is not 20 min.

But what bout prestige you would say. You have lvl 1000 course for that. So to get 1000 course without commendations, if its linear. It would take:
    90% - 340h
    50% - 1150h

Lets say you can get 250 lvls from all commendations. That will only shorten time by 25%

So to get to lvl 1000 with 250 lvls from commendations.
    90% - 225h
    50% - 860h

I know that players are not putting 1150 - 860h in to get a prestige commendations and they will be rare and prestige.

And that math is only for 1 course you have 2.

  • @bostopir8006

I call it burning the candle from the bottom because the bottom players will always lose and eventually quit the game mode, creating anew group of bottom players who quit, until only the top players remain. Others call it Grognard herding. This is what's happening now because of the colossal imbalance in time investment. This is why faction treasury needs to be buffed massively, and there needs to be a PVEVP way to gain allegiance that doesn't rely on PVP wins/streaks.

  • I call it I’m so bad at it that I can’t get any worse. Therefore I can only git gud 🤣

I don't care what you call it as long as you incentivise players to jump into this dumpster fire. More players will make it better for everyone.

  • @Bostopir8006 Aaaah got it, I said that because I've been playing with my Friends, we have 18 Ships sunked under Athena/Guardians and we are currently at Level 22. One big Streamer got to level 101 by sinking 100 Ships too, I only noticed later that he got through Solo-Sloop (and that he is a beast).

There's several other ways to get curses, this is a PvP-Related Curse. Its Ok to have certain cosmetics be earned through specific tasks and this one is no crazy task, its a linear one. You get by playing, Sinking or losing. The PvE Curses are far more appealing imo, as being a Super-Glowy Phantom can make you stand out while being chased or invaded.

Being insider I report bugs mainly, video submissions of glitches and etc. I can't and won't talk about what I find, but it has nothing to do with ''coping'' with the game's situation.

These 4 Specific Curses (Skeleton, Golden Skeleton, Phantom, Legendary Pirate) are all linear progress, the Season started 1 Month ago, you are not supposed to get everything done in just 20+ Days.
