PC FPS issue in Sea of Thieves. help :(

    Hey all,

    Recently when i want to play SoT i keep getting no more then 40fps, and this is on all lowest settings... when standing still.... not even talking about moving my mouse (15fps)
    And i used to play this on all highest settings and on 4k resolution with a steady 60fps.
    No idea what changed in any update maybe? but i can't seem to figure out what is causing this.

    What I've tried.

    • All low settings
    • Restart pc
    • Restart router
    • Uninstall and install (multiple times) also tried other disks for it
    • update nvidia graphics card driver (this actually worked once when i put back an older version driver, not anymore unfortunately and have the newest version now)
    • checked for any other driver update through device manager

    My Hardware. (in case this might have anything to do with it)

    • Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz 4.00 GHz
    • 16.0 GB ram
    • Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Super

    I have SoT in the microsoft store, not on steam.
    I hope anyone at all can help me with this issue as the game is unplayable for me now.

    Ahoy! Sorry to hear you're having troubles Check your drivers and check to make sure your external gpu is being properly utilized and not the "on-board" graphics. Also, check to make sure you are running full-screen mode. Another possible fix is going into your Windows settings and turning off Game Mode. You can search for it in the start menu.

    I have tried all those things, unfortunately no improvements there.
    Since downgrading my driver version worked once i can't help but think it's gotta be a driver issue. But then again it also dropped to low fps again the very next day with that same driver version.

    Any possible solution is welcome still. Anything at all!
    I'm out of ideas here.

    @yuudachiii try disabling NVidia Instant Replay. I know that has been causing issues for others.

    You'll know this is the problem if the fps increases while the game is not focused (on a different window in a multi monitor setup or while an overlay is on top of the game). If that happens, instant replay is probably causing it.

    changing settings in the file 'GameUserSettings' under C:\Users\Gebruiker\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.SeaofThieves_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\Athena\Saved\Config\UWP64
    I am now able to get decent fps, i don't know how and why. its still all over the place tho.
    goes from 20 to 70 now, going back and forth the whole time. (40 to 70 when standing still)
    Specially noticable when turning a 180 where it has to load everything on the screen again or something.
    This is driving me crazy maaan

    It's only when i actually join a server. in the menu there is no issue. so again looks like a graphical issue. but when i turn everything on lowest it still happens.

    @yuudachiii I noticed similar performance issues with the most recent patch with the new adventure. GPU utilization is only at 50-60% max when it's normally and supposed to be closer to 99%. RTX 3070ti, Ryzen 9 5900x, 64gb 3200Mhz ram, pci gen 4 nvme SSD. No issues on other games nor with SoT before this last patch. I am on the Steam Client and changing settings did nothing. Have tried every troubleshooting on my end that is possible and seeing as it only started happening with this most recent patch, it's quite apparent that the patch wasn't ready to actually go live but my guess would be due to the Adventure dates it was pushed out regardless. Stinks because I love the idea of this adventure and the current performance is making it quite hard to enjoy it like normal.

    I've had this issue before the latest update as well. but i kinda ignored it and tought it would fix itself with the next update.. hopefully..
    So that didn't happen and now i'm stuck hoping for yet another update to fix it. a bit sad but ill survive :')

    If anyone else has some ideas they are still welcome
