Useful pets? Go fetch! No P2W

  • EDIT: Perhaps give the ship a generic pet "Aside from the cosmetic pets" so it's not pay to win?

    Pets! They are cute, but can they be useful?
    Hear me out, I'm not sugesting anything over powered here by any means, but really now, decent loot is stupid easy to find already.

    What if we could send a ship pet out to find treasure for about 10-15 mins and return it to the ship? And if that seems like too much of an advantage then perhaps only the captain could send a pet and not the whole crew.

    Great loot would obviously be super rare, and could be determined thru percentages such as the example with the dog bones.

    Dogs: Find skulls and planks
    65% Small stack of planks
    20% Foul skulls
    10% Hateful skulls
    5% Villainous skulls

    Birds: Find keys, small gold hoarder treasures and gems

    Monkeys: Finds chests, cargo and fruits

    Cats: Finds multiple fish and different meats.

    Perhaps the loot could be placed in a pets loot container on the ship?

  • It’s a cool idea but Rare has stated that pets are just cosmetic only.

  • How about they make it so we can toss a bone or toy for them to chase? If a skeleton appears they run away like normal.

    The toy would be maybe
    Dogs: Plank
    Cat: fish
    Monkey: banana
    Bird: coconut

  • My Idea would be for the dogs go an island with you and protect you from the skeletons while you dig up your treasure.
    You: "Git the Skelly boy, ATTACK!"
    Dog: "Grrrrrr"
    No more skelly..

  • I wish. Simple solution to every single P2w argument. Give everyone a default pet as part of a season reward. Sorted. Now we can get on with upgrading pets please?

  • So you want to make pets a tool for people who are too lazy to explore.
    That is actually P2W, see this like this : Pets are like shanties and grog, it's just a for fun feature to add to your immersion, give you someone to be with 24/7 and share you adventures, your little companion.
    I think it's good enough like it is right now

    Equipped more? Try required. Unless you want to be at a disadvantage, that is. On top of that, because everyone will have to have a P2W pet just to compete, every ship will become far more crowded, noisier (especially during a fight), and annoying when you try to interact with something while a pet is in the way. It's a recipe for disaster. That's not enabling options; that's forcing someone into a choice that they may not want. This is Sea of Thieves; not Zoo of Thieves, or Noah's Ark.

    The simple fact of the matter is that, on this particular topic, the developers have already made their decision, and they're going to stick to it.

    All true. I’m hoping this could be part of the upgrade too. I like the messy energy they bring.
    Wish they were better integrated overall. Parrots on shoulders, pets we can’t accidentally pick up. Pets that distract skeletons.

    Also more variety in pet outfits please.
