A Pirates Life PVE?

  • So up until today I hadn't seen any other player outside my crew in the Pirate's Life. There was a patch last night and now I'm getting greifed by other players. That's why I stopped playing the first time around and was excited when A Pirates Life seemed to be PVE content. Less fun already and I'll probably uninstall the game if it keeps going this way. I love the game play and concept but hate the PVP. It's not fun for me and prevents me from enjoying the game. Please address this before it winds up back in the ready to install pile.

  • Hate to break it to you but pvp is part of the gameplay. For the Pirates life section in the main menu that just loads you into a different location (in front of tall tale lady instead of tavern), not an empty server. Only when you go through the portals you will be alone. So tall tales 1 and 3 are just your ship while 2,4, and 5 are in the open world.

    There are no PVE servers as that would split the player base and ruin the interaction flow the devs created. I get pvp can be annoying but all I can say is keep an eye on the horizon and if you want to avoid it then just run 🤷‍♂️

    The original tall tales are more intertwined with typical piracy during the stages of the tale. Loot grabbing and selling is often part of the experience while jumping from island to island. That's not much the case on the new tales.

    Makes sense to keep the original pve/pvp and make the new ones more story telling and the linear and less intense experience.

    They are simply designed differently and I don't see a problem with people being mostly left alone during them.

    Sinking someone during an original tale could just as easily be grabbing some loot or an emissary. Attacking players on these new tales is just flat out trying to ruin people's experience during a temporary moment of the game where the story and cinematic are the focus, Especially 2 and 4.

    Letting them be doesn't harm the foundation of the game at all.

    No real reason for any of us to be an absolutist on this one as it's not harming the significance of gold or commendations. It's not weakening standards of achievement or altering the main game at all it's just allowing people to more peacefully enjoy something that obviously was meant to be more of a game movie with some puzzles and a lot of interactive oohhs and ahhhs

  • @wolfmanbush Apparently there is some confusion between the posts. When I was replying I was meaning to clarify that selecting the Pirates Life mode still puts you in a open server, as well as sharing only tales 1 and 3 from the new set actually put you in a solo server experience.

    I agree with you, attacking players doing the new tale is lame. I don’t like messing up other people’s experiences, but what I was sharing is that is still a possibility while doing the tales because that is part of the game. If they changed the way the tales worked so you were alone then that would be great, but that currently isn’t the case.

    Sea of Thieves will always be a shared world adventure game, with elements of both PvP and PvE but Joe did speak about Custom Servers about a year ago. These servers will not offer Gold or progression IF they become available to the public. Private Servers are still being tested with our Partners.

    Dropping anchor on this now.
