Hello all,
I recently tried to get back into playing Sea of Thieves, and have been wanting to play it more and more. However, I now experience issues that fully crash my computer when playing this game. The only hardware change since I last played was a processor upgrade. I can stress test the processor to hell and back, and play any other game in my library without issue, so I don't really think it's that. I have, however, noticed that the crashes only happen when other players are around-- be it in my crew or others, though it is possible it would if I were to play long enough on my own, as I don't like playing solo. They're not consistent though, it may be fine for five minutes, or it may be fine for an hour. It seems the more players are around, the more of a problem it becomes and that I crash more frequently. The person I play with also has noticed that Steam re-displays that I am playing the game again a moment before I crash (the notification when a friend opens a game). Speakers and headset make an electronic humming sound for 1-2 seconds as it crashes.
So far, I have tried all of the following (and possibly more I cannot recall):
- Reinstalling the game
- Verifying file integrity (game is installed through Steam)
- Resetting BIOS to defaults
- Using the most up-to-date stable BIOS and beta version
- Manually setting clock speeds and voltages to stock
- Underclocking/undervolting processor and RAM
- Performing a clean install of Windows
- Reinstalling video card drivers (clean install)
- Playing the game without any additional programs installed
- Reseating CPU and RAM
- Monitored temperatures (peak is about 65C on CPU, 40C on RAM, 60 on GPU)
- Uninstalling and reinstalling the Xbox app
- Disabling Windows Defender
- Using two different builds of Windows 10 (builds 2004 and 20H2)
- Disabling Fast Boot (both Windows and BIOS)
- Signing out and back in to Xbox Live (both in game and in the app)
